  1. I have no doubt that Yuzu has been practicing on his own at Ice Rink Sendai in the wee hours of the morning. In the 2012 documentary "Spirits of the Athletes" starting at approximately 27:00, it shows him back in Japan in August and practicing by himself at 2 AM. Click the closed caption icon for English subtitles. This was before Yuzu winning two Olympic gold medals, receiving the People's Honour Award, becoming the most popular athlete in Japan and donating tons of money to Ice Rink Sendai. I would think that Ice Rink Sendai would be more than happy to accommodate their pride and joy and benefactor.
  2. Yuzu will be competing in the Japanese Nationals. He wants to regain the national crown before he embarks on his final season before Beijing 2022. Harking back to his first Olympic gold medal, I had not been aware that someone had made a snow statue of Yuzu following Sochi 2014 during the 66th annual Sapporo Snow Festival in February 2015. The News Herald December 16, 2020 50 amazing snow and ice sculptures from around the world https://morganton.com/lifestyles/50-amazing-snow-and-ice-sculptures-from-around-the-world/collection_aa38132c-39ae-5381-9e48-3f0070bc7ea0.html#46 Japanese figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu was immortalized in snow during the 2015 Sapporo Snow Festival. A year prior, Hanyu competed in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics and was a breakout star, surpassing every world record in his event. At the 2014 men's figure skating competition, his routine earned him a score of 101.45, making him the first figure skater in history to exceed 100 points. 3. Welcome to the Planet! Don’t be bashful. Post often and ask as many questions as you want. I’m curious. How did you become a Fanyu 24 days ago?
  4. If Yuzu competes in the Nationals, he will be doing so without Brian, Ghislain or Tracy. Wouldn’t it be nostalgic and bring more than a few tears if we were able to see him being sent off on his programs with a handshake from Nanami Abe and to see them sitting together again in the Kiss and Cry?
  5. The US is behind many other countries in securing sufficient allocations of vaccines to cover its population. I understand that the US has only pre-ordered 100 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine which will immunize 50 million people, approximately 15% of the American population. Pfizer has indicated that it is unlikely that the US will be able to secure any more in 2021. The following is from Bloomberg, December 9, 2020: Bloomberg has reviewed more than 80 agreements between vaccine makers and countries around the globe to reserve allocations while they are still in development. Canada, the UK, and Australia top the list, with enough vaccine doses reserved to cover their populations several times over. The US, meanwhile, ranks 32nd in per capita reservations. It is behind the 27 European Union countries that banded together to pre-order vaccines in large quantities, and sandwiched between Chile and Japan in 31st and 33rd, respectively, according to Bloomberg's analysis. The United Kingdom has already started vaccinations and Canada will start next week. There is still not enough vaccines available to cover more than a small percentage of the population of any country. There will be other vaccines becoming available, but it will still take some time before mass vaccinations will begin. The Four Continents Championships in Australia have already been cancelled. I doubt that sufficient vaccinations will be carried out by March in order for Worlds to be safely held. I am just hoping that we will have sufficient vaccinations worldwide to be able to hold a semi-normal 2021-22 competitive figure skating season starting in September or October 2021. Skate Canada International is scheduled to be held in Vancouver where I live and I would love to see Yuzu here! Yuzu has not withdrawn from Japanese Nationals yet, so there is a chance that we will see him compete this year. I am sure that he would love to have his title back.
  6. For me the year 7 AH (After Hanyu) is less than 2 1/2 months away. The year 0 for me started on February 13, 2014 when I was channel surfing and chanced upon the men's short program. I was not a fan of figure skating, but when I saw Yuzuru Hanyu skating to Parisienne Walkways, I was hooked and had to know more about this extraordinary young man. That is when everything became BH (Before Hanyu) and AH (After Hanyu).
  7. I don't know whether this has already been posted somewhere or whether this is the right place to post this, but the Olympic Channel has launched a dedicated figure skating channel called "Olympic Channel On Ice" today. https://www.olympicchannel.com/en/stories/news/detail/olympic-channel-figure-skating-channel-launch-december/ Right now the Olympic Channel is streaming the men's short program from the 2014 Sochi Olympics. https://www.olympicchannel.com/en/live/video/detail/olympic-channel-on-ice/ This post has been tagged by yuzuangel as [NEWS].
  8. I think that he will withdraw from Japanese Nationals for the same reasons that he withdrew from the GP series this season. The rate of infections is increasing in Japan as it is throughout the world. There will be thousands of people in attendance thereby increasing the chances of getting infected. He would likely have no coach. I cannot see any potential benefit of Yuzu competing at Nationals outweighing the potential risks.
  9. I know and most of the commentators describe Yuzu’s triple Axel as well as his quad toe and quad Sal as being “perfect”, “immaculate”, “textbook”, etc., but I don’t see the judges awarding grades of execution of +5.0.
  10. I was confused when I saw this post, but then I went back and saw the reason for it! LOL! I pushed the “Submit Reply” button and nothing seemed to happen, so I pushed it a few more times! Sorry about this multiple posting! I hope that a kind administrator will be able to remove the redundant postings. Edit: I did the best I can in deleting the redundant postings.
  11. Brian Orser's father passed away in March, 2017 before the Helsinki World Championships. Brian had been very close to his father. He apparently did not tell anyone about it, but Yuzu sensed Brian's sadness. At the 2017 Helsinki WC Gala, Yuzu came to Brian after skating "Notte Stellata" and said, "This performance was for your father." Brian was deeply touched and moved by this.
  12. Have you tried reloading the website from time to time? I have noticed that there are times when the notification regarding new posts does not appear at the bottom. For example, today, I came here expecting to see at least a couple of new posts, but there was nothing indicated. When I reloaded the website, a few new posts showed up.
  13. The lyrics of the song “To Dream the Impossible Dream” really do seem to apply to Yuzu and his quest for perfection and remaining true to himself in the face of everything that is hurled against him. Two versions: Frank Sinatra: 1972 Tony Awards Richard Kiley:
  14. Of course it’s not worth it for Nathan to even try the 4A. The risk is too high and the reward too low. Even if he landed it in competition, the points you get are pitiful considering its difficulty. As you say, Yuzu is not trying to do it for the points. He’s doing it because it’s there and it hasn’t been accomplished yet. Points be damned. To dream the impossible dream… To run where the brave dare not go... To reach the unreachable star...
  15. It isn’t a question of being reasonable. These are highly competitive elite athletes. They are always trying to outdo each other. That is the whole point of being in competition. The fact that they want to be the best or the first to accomplish something is natural.
  16. Regarding Nathan and the rumoured 4A, first, I don’t believe it’s true since Nathan has trouble landing a proper 3A and, second, Yuzu’s goal is to be the first skater to cleanly land the 4A in a sanctioned competition, not just in practice. Was Nathan’s rumoured 4A allegedly landed in a sanctioned competition? Also, if Nathan was capable of landing a 4A, I don’t think he would give a second thought to whether he was stepping on Yuzu’s toes by doing it.
  17. I googled "Hoochie Coochie Man" and got: https://www.americanbluesscene.com/hoochie-coochie/#:~:text=Coochie is blues slang for, coochie man is a pimp. "Coochie is blues slang for 'vagina.' Hoochie is slang for 'whore' or 'hooker.' In the blues, coochie is also used as a verb, as in: 'I got a girl across town/she coochies all the time.' A hoochie-coochie dancer is a stripper and a hoochie-coochie man is a pimp." From Deborah Devi's book "The Language of the Blues: From Alcorub to Zuzu." Out of curiosity, I looked up "Zuzu" and it's southern slang for cookies, as in "Can I have more zuzus, Mama?" The original zuzus were gingersnaps made by Nabisco. When Fanyus cry out, "Can we have more Zuzu?" we mean an entirely different thing!
  18. Do people know what "hoochie" and "coochie" mean? "Hoochie" has been described as a slang for a drunken woman, sexually promiscuous woman or prostitute. The Urban Dictionary has a more descriptive definition: https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=hoochie "Coochie" is slang for a woman's genitals (Google English Dictionary). Also: https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=coochie It's a good thing Jeff did not explain the finer points of "Hoochie Coochie Man" to Yuzu. (Or maybe he did...)
  19. Sorry, I couldn’t stop myself from making that comment because I’m the one with the pervy mind. I know that you didn’t mean anything pervy by it.
  20. Not saying he isn’t – just pointing out that it’s $690 Canadian, not $500 Canadian. If Yuzu’s name wasn’t on it, it wouldn’t cost as much. He enhances everything.
  21. For $520 US or $690 Canadian, you can buy a nice Citizen Eco-Drive watch which will last you a lot longer. It won’t have Yuzu’s autograph on it though. What piece of Yuzu were you thinking? It’s $690 Canadian.
  22. Yes, about $520 USD and $690 CAD to put it into perspective for Canadian satellites. Yuzu has the Midas touch and, to paraphrase from “Field of Dreams” – If Yuzu endorses it, they will come.
  23. Yuzu comes to and stays in Toronto only long enough to train at the TCC. As far as I know, he hasn’t even been to downtown Toronto. He spends his time either at the TCC or the apartment that he shares with his mother and commuting between the two with occasional outings to buy groceries with his mother. As soon as each competitive season is over, he and his mother go straight back to Sendai. Toronto has never been a home to Yuzu. When he stops competing, he will have no reason to return to Toronto. He will stay in Sendai and continue a career involving skating, probably performing. With his looks, intelligence and charisma, all sorts of opportunities are open to him, but as he has said, “I was born for my skate” (or “I was born to skate.”)
  24. The all-seeing Onmyoji, Yuzuru “Abe No Seimei” Hanyu…
