Figure_Frenzy
A Belgian newspaper (Het Laatste Nieuws) report on Loena winning silver medal at Worlds https://www.hln.be/meer-sport/loena-hendrickx-daags-na-zilveren-wk-medaille-geweldig-om-te-lezen-dat-ik-vicewereldkampioene-ben~ab7e5ea2/ A few highlights from the article: •She was accompanied not only by her coach and brother Jorik, her choreographer Adam Solya, her physiotherapist Ellen Jacobs also came along and helped monitor her injury and treated it between her practices and the skates. •She is now better able to take ahold of her situation, not lose control during competition, which was shown by her clean performance not only in SP but also in FS (as opposed to her performance in Euros, where she nailed the SP but not the FS). •She won the medal for herself (especially after everything she'd been through, her back injury and the recovery afterwards...), but also for Belgium, and she dedicated the win for her mother's birthday (who had her birthday Saturday this week (so, yesterday from when I post this 🙈🙈)). •This is the highest achievement by a Belgian single figure skater since...well, the start of the Worlds (yeah, really(!!)). The last Belgian Worlds medallist was a pairs team winning gold twice in the few years after WW II, and the highest achievement for Belgian single skaters before Loena's Worlds silver medal was Kevin Van Der Perren's Euros Bronze, in 2003 and 2007. I could translate other points from the article upon request, but the gist of it I think has been reported in other news sources as well (like how the Russians are blocked from competing, etc.) Once again, Proficiat Loena! , now enjoy your rest and recovery

He has even spoken out on his Instagram stories tagging ISU several times ISU regarded their new RD music as propaganda and even complained about their costumes Ukrainian Figure Skating Federation has published a statement and a letter: Звернення до ISU 26 March 2022 Google translate Quote Appeal to ISU The Ukrainian Figure Skating Federation (UFSF) has asked the International Skating Union (ISU) to clarify the situation regarding the recognition of the "propaganda" music to the rhythmic dance of Ukrainian duo Alexandra Nazarova and Maxim Nikitin at the World Championships in France in Montpellier. It will be recalled that in view of the war waged by the Russian aggressor in Ukraine, in which the occupiers destroyed cities and killed civilians, the skaters changed their rhythm dance and chose Jamala's song "1944" and Ukrainian folk song "Oh in the meadow red viburnum" . In the version previously presented to ISU, the first part of the program organically sounded a 15-second appeal to peace of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. However, the ISU regarded this composition as "propaganda", contrary to the Code of Ethics of the organization, and also complained about the costumes of athletes. In this regard, the Union intended to impose a ban on the use of this music in the program of the Ukrainian duo, which threatened the participation of Nazarova and Nikitin in the championship. UFSF responded immediately to the unprecedented situation by negotiating and sending a letter to the ISU. As a result, Ukrainian athletes were able to perform a prepared rhythmic dance (unfortunately, without the words of the President of Ukraine) and he found a strong emotional response and support from the audience, who stood and applauded our dancers. At the same time, the UFSF would like to receive reasoned explanations from ISU, as well as the reaction of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to the recognition of the "propaganda" musical work, with which, by the way, Ukrainian singer Jamala won Eurovision in 2016. She said that her father works with them and that everything reaches the right destination. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cbup_j9Ngh_/ Quote Dear friends and everyone who reads this post, all of you probably already know that there is a war going on in Ukraine. Unfortunately, many people are still sitting there in shelters and cannot leave the country. They need humanitarian aid. Fortunately, there are many organizations that do this. And here is one more of them. Fügnerovo nám. 5, 12000, Nové Město, Prague. This is the Czech address where humanitarian aid can be sent. From there, the guys take it to western Ukraine and finally deliver it to the cities in Ukraine that need it the most. My dad works with these people and therefore it is guaranteed that all the goods reach the right destination. If you want to help a Ukrainian who is now in difficult military conditions in some way, then send humanitarian aid to this address. Here is also the contact of the person who does all this and can tell you in more detail about the organization or answer your questions. +420770614714 her name is Kira Thanks in advance to everyone who will take part in this support or is already taking it. —————————————— #standwithukraine #humanitarianaid #humanitärehilfe #forukraine #saveukrainianpeople #ukraine #україна

Figure_Frenzy
Loena Hendrickx was celebrating her season's achievements (4th place Euros, Olympic diploma (8th place), and Worlds silver medallist) with her old skating club (Nieuw Olympia Turnhout) in Turnhout, banquet galore https://m.gva.be/cnt/dmf20220412_97340028 A pleasant event all around, she celebrated with Jorik and her fellow (now former) skating club members, Shirley, Johanna and Nathalie (who are now synchro skaters, skating in Tilburg (NL) and Deurne). The place where they had the banquet, the ice rink the club owned actually already closed in 2016, at its peak it had 330 members, now it was only down to 5 (including Loena), there was an attempt to make a new ice rink but an investor pulled out from the plan . Oh well, here's hoping to future skaters in Turnhout finding out a way to go on, somehow...

Guest turquoiseblue
Maksym has posted photos of the destroyed ice rink in Kharkiv https://www.instagram.com/p/Ccnn8iLIm9e/ Quote This is our ice rink in Kharkov! RUSSIAN FASCISTS BOMBED IT!!! Of course, as soon as we win, it will be restored! But for this, every culprit must be punished. I really hope that for a long time we will not see Russian athletes at various international competitions! As long as their army of pedophiles, under orders from a cowardly leadership, will continue to destroy our homes, our schools, hospitals and sports complexes. Death to fascism and death to VLADIMIR PUTIN!!
