To my Dutch ears, Flemish sounds *really* weird, especially how they pronounce certain loanwords differently (“match”, for instance, is not like mehtch but mahtch, like the difference between “ask” American and “ask” British.), whereas in Dutch we pronounce it normal English way. Of course, Flemish speakers probably feel the same about our “accent”. ;-) Oh, wow. I envy you your bbc coverage! I am in the desert here. And it is very interesting what you write about accents! I kind of counted on this one being a cracker and possibly going into overtime, so I scheduled my bday dinner for tomorrow in between the two matches. I am wishing now I hadn’t done that. Wanna bet tomorrow’s first match goes all the way into penalties? *face palm*
