It's because the president of the Canadian figure skating federation, Leanna Caron is an international judge.

Interestingly enough, president of CAN fed was also on the judging panel for ID at the Olympics. V/M definitely deserved Gold and they would have achieved it whether or not the president of the fed was there.

If Papadakis/Cizeron performed at PC the way they did at the WC, then they would have probably edged out Virtue/Moir, rather than the other way around as it happened. For me, Virtue/Moir have that ability to involve the audience in the emotion of what they are expressing. Papadakis/Cizeron on the other hand, I feel like I am an observer to that emotion, not a part of it. It's a fine difference, but in entertainment and artistry, I think it becomes a crucial point of difference. In their WC performances, esp the short dance, I felt that Papadakis/Cizeron came close to involving the audience in that emotion (their free dance, to me, felt too manufactured with respect to the emotions expressed, albeit technically and artistically it was beautiful). WinForPooh
Looks like the steps before solo jump might be no more, but I'd be surprised if quad repetition proposal passes. Shout out to the chap who asked why repeating triples does not affect variety.
kaeryth
Copied from the Gen Skating thread Love the Russian representative RE: connecting steps! "What is the purpose of deleting the connecting steps in the short program? As F. Bianchetti said it is difficult to distinguish this but for many years the skaters were doing this and the judges were able to distinguish this. What is the problem now? Either the skaters cannot do them or the judges cannot figure out where the steps are."

They don't give a duck. I like the tall chap from New Zealand too. The way he made the point about pauses in short dance to people who were obviously condescending to him was very entertaining. WinForPooh
But did you notice how part of the real intention slipped out, from the technical chap? Reduce the number of quads. Covered up immediately with not the main intention, it's not the main aim, blah blah.

I was kinda tuning him out because he was babbling too much and it was all nonsense but that sounds about right..
