They started talking about the lack of pairs in Japan, considering the overall popularity of figure skating there, and she basically went well men are small/short lmao

 thanks!

It's a comparative advantage issue. China has a strong pairs program and relatively non-existant dance program, so the kids with potential get shoved into pairs. In Japan, that's the case for ladie's and men's so the best kids tend to be encouraged to go there. If height was a real issue, they need to explain ice dance too, cause Ice Dance doesn't demand a tiny girl/giant guy pair.

And then there's Han Cong of China...a rinkmate saw him live and said he could not be over 175 cm. That's way below average for men in pairs skating. So height isn't everything.  Not all japanese guys are short, but you need to also fight sports like basketball or baseball, heck even tennis, for attention of the really tall or strong ones if y ou insist on it.

I cannot believe I missed the start of pairs. I was 100 % convinced it would start in four minutes.

Oh well... don't think I missed too much important stuff.

I really like Sui/Han for all the obvious reasons but also because they are more normally proportioned as a couple.

No, I know that, but she went straight to height so I found it hilarious. In Japan as far as I know, and I'm no expert on this topic, way at the start, there was the issue of a woman and man in such close contact, which isn't that usual there in public. Of course as you say, China nicely demonstrated with say Sui/Han you don't need a giant, you need good technique. Japan will catch up probably, they seem to be moving slightly.
But I just found her so funny.

That and he is divine. His skating skills are like an ice-dancer's almost, he is smooth as butter. Mmmm.

Ahem, sorry for my little gush.

Oh thank goodness my stream stopped. That's not a good song for pairs, usually.

Can I have gin instead?

Whenever I see Tarasova/Morozov I just want to sigh. They could be so much better with good programs but nooo....
