Oops sorry I didn't think my comment would spark a bit of a discussion like this. A bit late to reply, but when I first saw the drawing, I recognized Dai instantly, but had to 'squint' a bit to recognise Shoma and Yuzu lol. I knew it was them but I guess I haven't seen them drawn in this style too often. I think without the context of the entire photo, I might not have recognized Yuzu even. But then I guess that's typical of a lot of caricatures and cartoons of real people. The aim is not for an accurate portrait, so elements of a piece might come out as not easily recognizable on their own. I'm no very partial to this style myself, but I do appreciate how the artist composes his work. And I think he's very effective in conveying the feeling and message of his pieces.

Yeah, you have a point here. It would be unfair to the other skaters if he were given that NHK slot just like that. He will need to prove that he's fit and can perform well if he gets assigned a GP. So he will really need to go through regionals/sectionals no matter what.

So technically any of the TBD slots can be given to him? The US, CAN, FIN and IDF GPs all still have TBD slots, and they all haven't filled the max 3 skaters allowed for JPN in their events. How amazing would that be if one of them invites Dai.

I think he will need to go through the entire set of regionals/sectionals competitions to reach Nationals. He's been away for quite a while. Unless he only intends to compete at the GP. But if he wants to go to Worlds in Japan he definitely needs to go to Nationals. This is like wow. I wonder if he'll do a Challenger like Asian Open Trophy. And who will be his coach?? So many questions!!

So if Dai really does go to NHK, at least we will now know part of the reason why Yuzu didn't go there. But man, this is one of the biggest 'unretirement' news ever. Nobu I'm looking at you to make an even bigger one!
