"Hanyu Yuzuru Photo Book Tai" (AERA special edition / special box) Release: March 21, 2025 Info: https://publications.asahi.com/news/2082.html This is a permanent collection of photos that selects the best of the best from the approximately 5,000 shots taken so far by Japanese photographer Mika Ninagawa in 18 situations since she first photographed Yuzuru in 2018. The special box includes: - Large photo book with selected past photos and unpublished shots, including a new photoshoot of the Blue Roses (a 2024 --after Yuzuru's 30th birthday-- re-enactment of the 2018 photoshoot) - Booklet with a reprint of previous interviews with Hanyu conducted by AERA (2018, 2022, 2023, 2024) - Special Calendar with photographs by Ninagawa and numbers handwritten by Yuzuru. - Behind the Scenes DVD In 2024, AERA had released the special editions: Shin (心)--"heart/soul"--, and Gi (技)--"technique." Tai (体) means body and the three books together make reference to the combination of shin-gi-tai (心技体: heart/soul, technique, and body) in sports and physical forms of expression.

Thanks Jenn!!! The fact that Yuzu skated both days of Echoes in Chiba clean is super extra amazing when we consider all the difficulties. He is just this good and dedicated! And for those who are on Twitter or have a Twitter account collecting dust (LOL), there is a full subbed version of the interview and narration of this special program done by a bilingual fanyu. She has a private account dedicated to subbing Yuzu videos to avoid problems. Send me a DM if you want to know the account name.

This time, regardless of genre or cultural origin, we focus on costumes that possess a fundamental power to express the identity of a work or its wearer. To begin this special feature, we present the costumes from Yuzuru Hanyu’s solo tour show Echoes of Life, which is being held from December 7, 2024, to February 9, 2025. In this production, the costumes served as storytellers, as the very characters themselves, and as partners who performed alongside him on the ice. Through the words of the three creators who designed and produced the costumes, the director-choreographer MIKIKO, and Yuzuru Hanyu himself, we invite you to feel the innovative spirit of these garments. *machine translation Japanese to English from printed official pamphlet, inaccuracies exist* 2024.12.07 Echoes of Life Official Pamphlet: Interview with MIKIKO How do you interpret— A limitless canvas called the rink Q How did you first encounter Echoes of Life? MIKIKO: After we finished RE_PRAY, we casually talked about themes for the new ICE STORY. During that conversation, Hanyu-kun mentioned things like “philosophy” and how he wanted “the words to leave an impression.” Hearing that, I thought, “That’s so like Hanyu-kun; it sounds like it could be really interesting,” and, “It feels different from what he’s done before, which is great.” Later, he gave me a rough outline of the story he had in mind, and then I received the full storyline.

We need the QR code from the Gucci Japan stores to watch the 1.5 minutes video 🥲.

If anyone wants to "hunt" Yuzu's comments during Nyachida-san's video, I added timestamps, translation and explanation of the gaming jargon (LOL). You should get directed to the comment by clicking here. I also added some key moments, including when Nyachida-san (and the people on the chat) first realize that Yuzu was watching the Live (somewhere), before he actually started posting comments. I am still in awe of Yuzu's 1000 hr dedicated to playing Monster Hunter 4G... where did he even get 1000 hours in his busy schedule!!! Who is Nyachida-san? I realize those who are not active on twitter might be unfamiliar with him. Nyachida-san is a huge fan of Estpolis Denki 2 (Lufia 2 for those who played the game in English). He became a fan of Yuzu during RE_PRAY (you may remember that the music of Estpolis 2 is used on RE_PRAY ending credits). He has done some great analysis of Yuzu's ice stories, based on his knowledge of video games (he likes pretty much the same style of video games that Yuzu likes). Nyachida-san is also a big fan of the Japanese group "Bump of Chicken", a group Yuzu has been a huge fan since he was very young (the influence of the lyrics can be seen in Yuzu's words and even parts of his ice stories).
-
I am still midway watching the video with the English captions on (it's very understandable, Yuzu's name gets turned into something else, but it's kind of obvious and doesn't affect the flow of the watch/reading). I actually love Nya-chan videos, they are so informative for those who want to learn about some of the games Yuzu likes. He has also did a great review of RE_PRAY. And he is a Bump of Chicken fan, a band Yuzu loves since he was very young (thus, Yuzu's request during the Live).

Hi everyone! If you have the time and desire, consider joining this request to get some Yuzu content on the "NHK World-Japan" platform. This platform is free and accessible by your computer browser or through your smart TV. If you are not familiar with the platform you are actually missing some interesting content as the platform delivers more than just news. NHK Worls-Japan also has a YouTube channel. There are very interesting programs with Yuzu that have been broadcast on NHK channls in Japan, and we could potentially have some of them available on NHK World-Japan, for example: Shinya Kiyozuka x Yuzu on "Figure Skating and Music", Ogensan, Switch interview with Yuzu x Koichi Domoto. Additionally, we can request and interview with Yuzu for the program "Face-to-Face". MIKIKO was interviewed last year but no content about Ice Story was included. Right now, there is an interview with Mika Ninagawa (AERA photshoots with Yuzu). This interview is very interesting, I really recommend it as it gives some glimpses to Japanese culture and language and you can see how some of Yuzu's ideas match with Ninagawa's (though the interview has nothing about Yuzu). You can submit your request here: https://m.youtube.com/user/NHKWorld

It's a very fascinating conversation and it makes a lot of sense when you get into how Shinto believes permeate different aspects of Japanese society and culture. That's also something that Mansai and Yuzu talked about. The full translation of the Mainichi article plus the translation of an extra transcript of the radio program is posted on the Translation Box-> 2025-> Notte Stellata 2025.

This part comes immediately after the section included in the previous article. Transcript was done by a Japanese fan. The translation is a machine translation, inaccuracies exist. Nomura: In a way, composing space within that kind of cosmology… it might be closer to mai (舞), rather than dance. Of course, dance can also have that element, but because it all begins in an empty space, creating a world within that space—that's probably the kind of plan you have in mind for your skating performances, isn’t it? Hanyu: Yes, I think so. And maybe, for me, there’s also a strong sense of offering(1) something.

Japan can be a very technologically advanced and at the same time extremely "analogous" society. Also, it's one of the countries with more proportion of older population, including 100 plus years of age. GIFT is available on Disney Plus though delivery stopped in Europe. You could watch it with VPN set up in Japan, Canada, etc. though. The othet Ice Stories have been live streamed and then have a 1 week archive period. I buy Blu-Rays from Japan because the Japanese zone for them is compatible with the Americas. Japanese DVD zone is compatible with Europe. There are Blu-ray/DVD players that are compatible with different zones though. You can also watch them on game consoles like Play Station.
