  1. … but that is exactly the problem with the term “ladies” isn’t it? It conveys a hidden standard that women, by virtue of being called “ladies”, have to conduct themselves more respectably than men, who are called “men” instead of “gentlemen”. It goes back to the tired adage of having women be the society’s moral gatekeepers, required to have higher moral standard. While men are assigned “boys will be boys”. ….no? look, ideally, we should have men and women ‘judge’ by the same high standard. But until we as a society can do that, same low standard it is.. or just same average standard, if you will.
  2. Unfortunately, this is true. I am indeed naturally pessimistic, but you don't necessarily need to be a pessimist to see this.
  3. The people were all "Congratulations!!!!!" to the speed skating team, and then completely fell apart breaking down when it's Yuzu. Honestly, mood.
  4. @yuzuonice My best attempt yet (just, please, don't ask me how many games I've played so far) I should probably go back to work now
  5. Ooooh, I love this game!! Thank you! Happy Super Grand Slam Anniversary!
  6. I kinda went 'I do not see' on that one. But yeah. 2 americans mentioned. Ugh.
  7. This kinda makes me want him to go and win Beijing just so that they would have less reason to name an american in his Bio. Yeah, but Tuzuki and Tsuzuki (the 's' isn't silent) sound literally different. So do Shoitirou and Shoichiro. Shun - Syun, and Hana - Hanna sound phonetically similar.
  8. $144.55 ....... I guess cz there's filter and everything,,,plus free shipping. But gd.. Zuzu needs it and certainly can afford it.. hard pass for me, tho..
  9. Someone has said it before, I am sure, but 4 quads, 2 of which are backloaded, plus 2 3A’s program is a difficult program. I don’t want to speculate on why Zuzu didn’t include Flip and Lutz, mostly for the sake of my sanity, so let’s not go there. But just because he didn’t include those doesn’t mean he didn’t do difficult jump. He included (triple) Axel, didn’t he? 2 of them, one as the very last jump. Have flip and lutz taken over as the most difficult types of jump and I didn’t see the memo? The only jump in his arsenal with higher scoring potential (not necessarily higher difficulty) than all the jumps he did in JNats is 4Lz. How many other skaters can do a clean backload 4T-Eu-3S? Perhaps it’s because he skated a really clean first pancake, and so it gives the impression that what he did must have been a ‘less difficult’ layout,,, but,,, we complain about how people apply different standard to Zu, and yet, look at what we are doing.
  10. I do not have the time and energy to make direct comparison between Origin and Tentochito in terms of actual steps done between components, etc., etc.. But this is what I understand: Tentochito is a profoundly different program from Origin, and as Yuzuru Hanyu's programs, that means they require different kinds of component composition. I dislike the Russian girls' transitions-flooded programs that do not make good compositions because those numerous transitions often do not fit the music at all, they are included (other than bcz the choreographer just doesn't have taste) mostly because that is the only way to show what (little) skating skills those girls have. Yuzuru's programs have always managed to strike a good balance between showing off his skating skills, without drowning the program with unnecessary transitions. You said it yourself that one of the sequences in Origin is of 0 value competition wise. Zuzu included it in anyway bcz Origin the program requires it. Tentochito does not. Perhaps you and other fans who are still unsatisfied or expecting more in Tentochito do have an idea of what and where he could include more, but I don't. I admit I don't have any choreographing skills whatsoever. But as I see it, perhaps he could (and probably would) add one or two small clusters of steps here and there, but adding another full sequence to Tentochito would only bogged down the program. Unnecessarily.
  11. I am the first one to admit I still have problems naming steps and counting spin especially without slow-mo, but I too wonder if I had imagined all the content in Zuzu’s Tentochito (and LMEY, but this program seems to have better acceptance and appreciation).
  12. So, @Pamigena over on twitter, make this awesome accidental, but then on-purpose, effect filter of Zuzu's costumes: I, of course, couldn't help but fall in love with all of them. I asked permission to use the Tentochito one for a custom phone case, and here it is under spoiler. Forgive my showing off
  13. 2020 is finally over. 2021 is filled with so much unknowns, but the hope is undeniable. Here's to a better 2021 for everyone. May Yuzuru and our love for him continue to help sustain us. Happy New Year, satellites!!
  14. Satomi Ito designed both LMEY and Tentochito costumes. https://yuzuwuw.tumblr.com/post/639009866787258368/from-satomis-ig-both-let-me-entertain-you This post has been tagged by yuzuangel as [NEWS].
  15. Which is why I said who english this,,, If anything, I am quite confident in my reading comprehension skills, and I can't understand this segment. I gave them the benefit of the doubt in that they mean if skaters did less than 3 - as per the previous rule, they cannot do less than 2 revs for whatever they did to count as spin. So: to get points --> have to be 3 revs But if not 3 revs, it cannot be less than 2 --> to be counted as a spin And I am already reaching faaar by this point.
  16. While we are at it, don't forget that they V-ed Yuzuru's last spin in FS as well. It was Change Combination Spin (CCoSp) From the same darn tech handbook p.15 ______ on Clarifications under "V" sign: “V” sign can be awarded only in 4 situations: 1) In Flying spin only: for stepping over and no clear visible jump; 2) In Spin Combination: for only two basic positions: 3) In any change foot spin with less than 3 revolutions on one foot (Free Skating only). 4) In Spin in one position with change of foot: less than 2 revolutions in a basic position on one foot (Free Skating only). If in a CCoSp there are only 2 basic positions and less than 3 revolutions on one foot or in Spin in one position with change of foot there are less than 2 revolutions in a basic position and less than 3 revolutions on one foot “V” sign will be awarded. These cases of multiple errors will be reflected by the judges in GOE. In case the skater has chosen to execute only 2 positions, this is not regarded as an error in GOE by the judges. _______ Zuzu did 3 positions: camel (6 revolutions), --then change foot-- sit (2.5 revolutions), upright (2 revolutions) So, his combination is 3 basic positions, which is more than 'only two basic positions', and for change of foot he did more than 3 revolutions BEFORE (6 revolutions in camel position) and AFTER (2.5 in sit position, 2 in upright position, 2.5+2=4.5 revolutions) change of foot. They specifically said that V will be given for CCoSp if 'there are only 2 basic positions and less than 3 revolutions on one foot'. So, what gives? Which part did Zuzu violated? Also, the conjunction 'and' in there means that both have to be violated to earn the freaking V. I just can't. This is all before commenting on level, cz my steaming brain can't process that right now.
  17. Be ready, it's gonna be long. I just can't leave this alone. So, by this tech book, we have confirmed that the basic spin positions are these 3: camel, sit, upright (altho layback and biellmann are counted as camel position, even if in protocols they will be called layback - point of confusion #1) ref: p.7 What they invalidated was Zuzu's Change Sit Spin (CSSp). Originally, we thought they were using this rule: ________ "The change of foot in any spin must be preceded and followed by a spin position with at least three (3) revolutions. If this requirement is not fulfilled the spin will be “No Value” in Short Program and marked with a “V” in Free Skating." ref: p.7 ________ Which doesn't make sense, cz while Zuzu varied his spin (rules on variation are on p.12 under Clarifications), the position is just all SIT position. Hence, no matter the variation, all revolutions are sit spin revolutions, he made more than 3 before and after change of foot. He did 2 variations of SIT position before and after change of foot, each variation at least 2.5 revolutions, hence BEFORE change of foot: at least 5 revolutions, AFTER change of foot: at least 5 revolutions. 5 > 3, if my maths has not completely failed me yet. This whole thing is point of confusion #2 This understanding is also backed up by this rule: _____ on Specific elements of Short Program, under Men: spin in one position with change of foot: "Senior & Junior: The spin must have at least 3 revolutions before and after the change of foot." _____ Nowhere in there the rule says anything about VARIATION. Then, 'someone in charge' release statement that it was this rule they based the decision on: ______ on Clarifications, under Spin in one position with change of foot: less than 2 revolutions in a basic position on one foot: "If a spin in one position with change of foot is executed with a basic position with not less than 2 revolutions on one foot only and no basic position with not less than 2 revolutions on the other foot, it will receive: In Short Program “no value“. In Free Skating it will be marked with sign “V”." ref. p. 15 ______ Setting aside that this 'clarification' doesn't clarify sh*t - who English this?? point of confusion #3 - again, it doesn't mention anything about 'variation'. And Zuzu made more than 'not less than 2 revolutions' on SIT position. So, no. This justification does NOT justify sh*t.
  18. Re criticism on social media,,, here’s a new mantra my counsellor just taught me over this pandemic: if you wouldn’t go to someone for advice, do not take their criticism either. Help a lot. what do those people know,,, and especially, sorry to be this blunt, those ignorant western or western-oriented ‘fans’? Just shrug it off.
  19. But honestly, can the leaders of the world have just an ounce of this legend's compassion and consideration?
  20. Under spoiler cz this is getting OT
  21. If you are taking translation at it's most shallow form, sure. There is a reason however, that "translator" is a profession, and not just any bilingual person can translate. My native language is Indonesian. My active language due to where I live and am currently doing a postgrad at, is English. I technically speak these two languages fluently, or near fluently. I would never do Indonesian - English translation unless no one else can do it, because I have neither the talent nor the training to do so. And structural-wise, Indonesian-English translation is no where near as complex as Japanese (or any of the east asian languages, really) - English translation. My cousin, who is a professional translator, would also disagree with you on this. Here's a quote from Ken Liu, a novelist and translator who translated Cixin Liu's The Three-Body Problem (book 1 and 3) from Chinese to English (another nuanced languages translations). "The act of translation involves breaking down one piece of work in one language and ferrying the pieces across a gulf to reconstitute them into a new work in another language... Overly literal translation, far from being faithful, actually distort meaning by obscuring sense..." (taken from Translator Postscript of The Three Body Problem - book 1). And no, the speaker (in this case Yuzuru) is not supposed to offer explanation of his words (spoken in Japanese, which will be understood completely by Japanese people/speakers - who are most often the target audience) so that audience/readers who do not speak the language understand the meaning. If he does, that's a generous gesture. BUT, he is not supposed to do it.
  22. Their continuing support for Takahashi sort of makes this more problematic. Obviously it’s not ‘prolonged excellence’ they want, it’s whatever it is the result they get by the prioritising of certain groups. For me, that result is we fans know that most of the greats of Japan, notably their only 2 Olympic Champions, got their success despite not being backed by their federation. ...but seeing that those they do back got repeatedly trampled when pitted against bigger feds (or coaching teams that are better at campaigning), not sure if their backing is worth it, tbh. What is worse: not being backed by your fed, or being backed by your politically incompetent fed?
