He posted in on twitter, 2 years ago, criticising Yuzu's attempting 4A, writing him off as being too old for it. It's deleted now, as I understand it. Couldn't be bothered to find if anyone screenshot the thing, cz it's unpleasant, and I too, used to like Barton. Even if his increasingly excessive Russian stanning has gotten into my nerves even before he tweeted that. Ngl, tho. You sould probably ignore me (as in actually click the ignore button on my profile), cz even Max is on thin ice with me. Basically, those who had helped perpetuated the Russian girls 'quad' domination, are on my sh*t list, regardless of whether they praise Yuzu, too. Cz I can't quite justify them seeing Yuzu and his striving for technical excellence, and then turn around to gush over the cheated, unhealthy russian girls' "quads" and average (at best) programs/skating skills/postures. Esp with the current scandal.

Barton, unfortunately has changed his tune recently. He called Yuzu attempts at 4A, and I am paraphrasing cz I can't remember his exact words: doing it as a 26 year-old man, is not wise. Barton also gushes over Tutberidze's girls excessively, and has been the english commentators for russian national comps, probably precisely because of that. During the days when I was still watching junior GPs, he was always very critical about prerotations & underrotations of skaters from small feds (for the Japanese and Korean skaters, his go-to is 'expression is not there yet, but it will come', no matter the skater), and suddenly couldn't see any of them when it's the big3 feds. He has joined many, many commies who used to gush over Yuzu in his early years but then for some reasons have lately turned into 'couldn't wait for him to disappear' camp.

I’m in the camp of ‘Yuzuru doesn’t need to go back to TCC’. I just realise, we discuss this in the vent thread and not here. Yuzuru does not need to go back to TCC, he doesn’t need them anymore. Especially not with the latest revelation re TCC main coaches, what on earth??!!

An add-on from my last post. I sure hope TCC at least ask Yuzu’s permission with this release, cz this actually breaks a pattern. Footage of him landing 4Lz3T combo without harness existed years before he landed 4Lz in comps, and it wasn’t released until after he landed the 4Lz successfully in comps.

No, the release of the footage would not have been good had it been done at that time. Yuzu is not the only skater capable of landing a 4A in harness, people. I remember Messing did it too, a little after PC (and the reactions that garnered). And while *we* can probably distinguish the quality or how much the harness is or is not helping him vs other skaters, it wouldn't matter. What it would do was invite ridicule. A jump in harness is a jump in harness, it is not enough to indicate whether it will be landed without the harness. It doesn't invite ridicule now (not much anyway), precisely bcz we've all seen how close he was to landing it in comps.

I do feel like this has more to do with how the US is trying to have its cake and eat it too. What with diplomatically boycotting it, running ugly headlines about everything Beijing 2022, even lamenting the preventive health care measures as dystopian (look, there are many things, let’s just say, sensitive politically and environmentally about this Oly, but this pandemic adjustment is not one of those things, ffs), but also still wanting to profit from it. You can’t have it both ways, gees. But yeah, if your poster boy does not have even a fraction of the charisma that Yuzuru has, you stand no chance. It’s not the main reason for this flop, but it doesn’t help, certainly.

He really could not afford bitching about a rival especially after all the borderline homophobic things he has said about the sport. And this close to Olympics, he is at least not that foolish. Also, this takes the pressure somewhat from him, and heaps it all on Zu. But I am biased af, not to mention, jaded to hell. I am sure Chen is a nice enough young man. But, meh. He is? Or do you mean Artur Dmitriev? Aliev is currently struggling with long Covid, not sure he would be trying 4A. Dmitriev has been trying since forever, first Int’l comps attempt was at 2018 CoR, latest, USNats. But the point about their Axels still stands I guess. Neither of them has good enough 3A to guarantee properly upgrading it to a quad. Can’t be bothered to look up Aliev’s axel, but Dmitriev’s is skidded, I think, unlike Yuzu’s.

Yuzu attempted the 4A at JNats knowing full well how the media would hype the eff out of it. It's his choice. I, too, am tired of the emphasis on Nessie, but well, can't exactly expect everyone to shift focus from the new shiny thing, can we? Especially with the sensationalism-driven (western) "news" media. I don't think Zu doesn't know this either. And Zu himself has claimed landing the 4A as his goal, can't really blame people to take him at his word, can we? I mean, I actually still half-expect people to know that landing 4A Yuzuru Hanyu-style means landing it while also delivering an actual figure skating performance, but eh. I am just going to force myself to be content that I and most fanyus know this.
