To lighten up the day a little: I thought I read all articles about the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics already, but I somehow missed this one Business Insider: 'The olympic village is stocked with 110000 condoms that is 37 per athlete' I wonder what Yuzu did with them In the article there is also a picture of the athlete's rooms in the olympic village, which looked simple but pretty comfortable actually. EDIT: On a more serious note: I'm not happy about the jokes with the cardboard beds at the Tokyo Games at all. Under different circumstances it might be funny, but not in the middle of a pandemic. I pray that the athletes are not that dumb to take this as an invitation and spread the virus across the olympic village. That would be a nightmare and a terrible mistake by the media and organizers to blow up this topic.

Yes. In case of the luge track at the Königssee, Felix Loch (two-time Olympic champion in men's singles) fears that the reconstruction will need years, as the track has complex architecture and is almost completely destroyed: The nearest luge/bobsleigh track is 400km away and most athletes do not want to move from their home in Bavaria permanently. This will be a massive setback for the whole German team, they have been very successful in this sport for decades. The loss of this track is comparable to the destruction of all ice rinks in the Kansai or Tokyo area in one day. Imagine what that would mean for Japanese figure skating in Beijing and the next generations to come.

Quick update on the floodings in Germany: The clean-up and reconstruction in the states North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate has started. However, the dam near Euskirchen is still in danger to break, so the whole area has been evacuated. In addition, there were heavy floodings in Bavaria, Thuringia and Saxony this time. The luge track at the Königssee near Berchtesgaden is completely destroyed and many German athletes, who were in the middle of the preparations for the Beijing Olympics, lost their training base. At the Nebelhorn there were heavy rainfalls as well, but thank god, there were no severe floodings or damages in Oberstdorf so far. However, I'm very worried about the region around the Danube, especially Passau. Pray with all my toes and fingers that everyone stays healthy and safe My thoughts and prayers go also to Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands and Italy. Please stay safe everyone.

EDIT @Pammi To be honest, looking at the current scoring mess and media trash-talk, I might be actually relieved, when Yuzu is finally out and can do what he likes and fully enjoys. I don't think that his retirement from competition will mean a complete bye bye from skating either. I do believe that he will find his happiness in shows or other new exciting projects and maybe we will be blessed with performances that will surpass everything we could have imagined in our wildest dreams. I mean... he now spends a lot of time on practicing different types of quads such as steps and spins that must satisfy the felt 26749801248 requirements for LV4. Imagine what miracles he could do, if he had the time...

Thank you very much for your detailed explanation! Yes, that's definitely true that men have different buoyancy than women. Very good point. Since I've never seen Yuzu swim either, it's impossible to figure out the exact issue. So just hands down to him that he tries and wants to make use of it. I also agree that mastering the 4A will probably be a long and exhausting process of trial and error. That's just natural with things that no one else has done before. It's not to be expected that the road will be linear with no dead ends. But I also expect it to be a bit like solving a Rubik's Cube. You need to temporarily destroy the layers you've already completed (in this case his arsenal of other jumps) to solve the final layer, where everything eventually falls into place. I hope, he can experience that special moment soon

This is a bit off-topic, but I feel the need to share it: This is probably the first time that I can roughly feel how Yuzu must have felt after the Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami. Here in my region we had so heavy rainfalls and floodings the last two days, that many of our friends lost their homes and belongings. The cities Hagen, Wuppertal and Euskirchen were hit especially hard. The dam close to Euskirchen has cracked and is in danger to break. I have never experienced anything like this before. Thank god, our house was not affected, because we live on a plateau, but it broke my heart to see the severe damages in other districts. We tried our best yesterday to help our friends and colleagues to save what could be saved, but we were recommended by the fire department not to leave our house today, because the situation out there is very dangerous and unpredictable. 80 people have died, roughly another 500 are missed in Nordrhein-Westfalen and Rheinland-Pfalz. I pray with all my toes and fingers that the rainfalls will stop soon and everyone stays healthy and safe 🙏

Well, when I learned swimming at the age of 7, I was extremely thin. Disney could have casted me for a real-life adaption of the skeleton dance. Absolutely 0 fat and muscles, only the ones that you need to stand up, walk and move your hands. And that hasn't really changed ever since. However, I really love swimming and in backstroke I even have decent times with 40sec over 50m. Having low body fat percentage doesn't necessarily mean that you cannot stay above water. It's the mix of good coordination of arms and legs, catching the right breathing rhythm and of course power, if you want to reach top speed on competitive level. Yuzu definitely has more muscles than I have (maybe more fat, too, because I have none), so that alone shouldn't be a problem.

Thank you very much for the translation! So it is indeed that difficult for him... Poor boy, that must be very hard... But big kudos to him that he tries!
-
Yuzu, I get that you were very exhausted, but 25m in 10min? That means 1 minute for 2.5 metres This almost sounds like a typo, because this is extremely slow. To put things into perspective: I am not an overwhelmingly good breastroke swimmer and I swim 25m in about 35-40 seconds. I guess it was meant to be 25m in 1min. That would be more realistic. EDIT: But anyways. If he learned swimming extra for the 4A, I bow down to him. This is really great

@SuzyQ Yes, I saw this post, too. The edit is great Actually, his scream at CiONTU was super intense, too. I love it, when he shows these raw emotions. This is not fake, he really means it. With Yuzu it's like watching a symbiosis of his skating with the music. He translates every note and meaning into a body movement and - at the same time - creates an echo of the piece on the ice. When you turn off the music, you can still hear it through his skating - not only the notes, but also the vibe and the message.

Thank you very much everyone Finally a place where Yuzuru Hanyu is not listed as a two-time Olympic attender or simple Olympic champion (or Winnie Pooh maniac or obsessive Moby Dick hunter *cough*)... but a two-time Olympic champion that he is. And despite the fact that anyone can edit Wikipedia, it's still an encyclopedia that many people read and many people trust in. It's fantastic to see Yuzu featured on the mainpage and I hope that some people who didn't know about him before, will have a better picture of him now than what they might get from the press. It's also funny that today is the reverse date of his birthday (12.7.) Yuzu things only.

Why do I have the feeling that of all iconic skating things that could be named after Yuzuru Hanyu, it will be the
-
I don't know, if this has been shared already, but it seems like Beijing's trying really hard to lure Yuzu to the Games. It's like the whole motto of the Olympics is in the sign of Ten to chi to: I would really laugh, if the organizers made the boards and decoration match the colors of the TenChi costume. Looks like they plan exactly that.
-
Truthfully, whenever I watch Yuzu, I do it in dead silence to grasp every second of the performance (and no one and nothing is allowed to disturb or I get frighteningly angry). The only time I roared and clenched my fist was right after his final triple Lutz in the freeskate in Helsinki. Okay, I admit, I always jam along with the lines "You gotta get high before you taste the lows" Footnote: There is no greater sin in the universe than interrupting Yuzu's skating with a commercial.
-
Yes, I feel exactly the same as you. Watching his determination and fighting spirit in this performance was inspirational in many ways. You can argue, if it was too reckless or dangerous, but in the end it turned out to be a good decision. Sadly, I know people, who only watched this performance because of the drama and blood and sensation, which I find simply disgusting. Same with the big number of people who were curious about the crash itself. But that's how it is.
-
I tried really hard to completely ignore antis' takes on Yuzu and his skating over the last weeks, but there comes a certain moment, when my legs and fingers just can't keep still anymore. And this is the result:
-
I fear, the reason for the many clicks on CoC POTO is rather curiosity than popularity. People wanted to know about the crash with Yan Han and watch Yuzu fighting through the program. Drama and sensation still seem to attract more people than beauty and magic in many cases, which is sad. But I fully agree with you: Ballade and the EX programs in general should have way more views. It's unforgivable that Notte has not even hit the 2Mio. Yet. But the off-season is long ... By the way: Sportschau LMEY dropped to 5th place on the channel. It got surpassed by the summary of the Germany-Portugal match at the current Euros. But they are pretty close together, Yuzu with 1.87 M views and the soccer clip with 1.9 M. However, it seems that many Euros videos have passed the 1M view mark or got close to it, so Yuzu's video may have a hard time to stay in the top 5. Fanyus, do your thing
-
Wow! Oly Seimei is less than 1K views away from 17 Mio.!! Let's go, fanyus!

Gosh, that would be such a flex. Yuzu winning his first season golden slam of GPF, 4CC, OWG and WC. Despite the pandemic. Despite the extremely tough schedule. Despite all the unfair judging and propaganda against him. Despite his age and wretched body and the 4A challenge. That would be the story of the century. No. The millenium. EDIT: To be clear, I wish nothing more than him staying healthy, uninjured and happy. Absolutely nothing else matters. No medals, no titles, no records or firsts. Just him, his skating and well-being. I pray that the gods will finally be on his side and spare him from more setbacks. Physically, mentally and emotionally. He has suffered enough for two lifetimes.
-
Lol, 7 new pages since yesterday. Could only mean one thing. Well, the biggest upside of the GP events is that I can follow Yuzu's competitions in peace with none of ISU's posterboys being there. I honestly don't care anymore how many of his titles they try to erease in their articles. The career achievement page will be pinned on Wiki's mainpage on 12th July and Yuzu's two individual Olympic gold medals, 19 world records and all other accomplishments will be displayed to the world in the sweetest possible way. So I'm totally chilled. I hope that his return to Sochi will bring him luck and he can enjoy this season more than the last ones. Fingers crossed EDIT: Wow!! I just saw the other assignments and COR feels like SC flashback all over again! Yuzu, Keiji, Matteo, Camden and even Romsky all reunited! With Misha, Kazuki and Brezina on top! Gosh, now I'm really looking forward to that event. And NHK looks like a pretty tough field with Yuzu, Shoma, Vincent, Samsonov, Nam, Jun, Matteo, Camden and Samarin. That will be some bloodbath for sure.

I can imagine that staying in Japan is more suitable for Yuzu this season. GPF, JNats, 4CC and Olys will all take place in Japan and China only. Being based in Japan means that he won't have any issues with jetlag and long travelling distances. I do not even rule out the possibility that he picks back-to-back GPs with CoC and NHK (if possible), so that he has to travel as little as necessary and has enough time to recover (3 weeks) before GPF and JNats. In 2019 he was completely exhausted after the NHK-Toronto-Turin-Toronto-JNats marathon. I'm sure that he wants to avoid another travelling madness like that one. With that schedule, even the Beijing test event would be doable (if he's based in Sendai): Oct 13-17 Asian Open Trophy, Beijing Nov 5-7 Cup of China, Chongqing Nov 12-14 NHK Trophy, Tokyo Dec 9-12 Grand Prix Final, Osaka EDIT: Yuzu will skate in DOI and I'm pretty sure that he will be involved in the Summer Games in some way as well, so he has about a month time between the Tokyo Olympics and the first challenger events to prepare for the new season. I don't think that it's worth to travel to Canada, rent an apartment there and go through quarantine for that short time. I'm sure he can use that time better at home in Sendai for more practice. EDIT the second: The last time Yuzu has competed in China was 2015 at Worlds in Shanghai. FaOI in Beijing last year was cancelled, so the people there must be really dried out and can't wait to welcome him, even if the competition is held with no audience.

Thank you very much for your detailed feedback and counting the pages! This helps a lot! I will leave the source as it is then and if it doesn't apply to WP's citation criteria, they will let us know. About Beijing: Yuzu actually never really went as THE undoubtable top favorite into the Games. In Sochi Patrick was the favorite and before Pyeongchang many ruled out Yuzu because of his injury and prepared the stage for NC, but the Olympics is a different beast and tells its own stories. It's indeed rare that the chosen ones or big favorites actually make it. Michelle Kwan - 5 time world champion, never won the Olympics. Kurt Browning - 4 time world champion, not even medalled at the Olympics (in three attempts). Papadakis/Cizeron - 4 time world champions and broke all WR in the 17/18 multiple times, but it wasn't meant to be with the Olympic title yet. Or other sports: Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic - won pretty much everything that can be won in tennis - but never the men's individual at the Olympics. Going into the Games as defending 3 time world champion is not exactly a good omen. Mark my words.

To be honest, I'm not sure, but probably yes. I only have the screenshot of the page linked in my post. On the homepage continueswithwings.com there are some goods listed, but I don't know in which one this page is included. EDIT: I wonder how to cite this pamphlet best (or whatever it is). I used the following citation form: 「Continues ~with Wings~」愛蔵版ブック (Treasured Edition). Continues with Wings (in Japanese). April 16, 2018. I'm not sure, if that's enough, but I'll leave it at that for now, until there is a better solution.

Quick question: Does anyone know the Japanese title, publisher, number of pages and ISBN of the Continues With Wings Treasured Edition Book? I'd like to use this page as reference, but couldn't find the information of the original source: https://nanoka12.tumblr.com/post/174949672746/continues-with-wings-treasured-edition-book Thank you very much!
