This is a rhetorical question actually. At the end of the day every show with Yuzuru Hanyu is the show of Yuzuru Hanyu. As long as Yuzuru Hanyu competes, he will dominate by default. The harder others try to fight it, the more dominating he will be.

Thank you very much for the detailed responses! I definitely agree with you in many aspects. LGC and Ballade No. 1 are frontrunners for me too in most components. It's tricky to compare short programs with free skates, as there are more than twice as many jumping passes in the free, but only one minute more time. So in the free you are really limited with creative transitions and showcasing your skating skills. We always tear the judges apart for the scoring, but I really asked myself - if I was a judge and had to score the components for these programs - what would I give to them? Short programs: detailed comment Component LGC GPF 2016 Ballade OWG 2018 Otonal COR 2018 Ballade 4CC 2020 Skating skills 10.00 9.75 10.00 9.75 Transitions 9.75 9.75 9.75 10.00 Performance 10.00 10.00 9.75 9.75 Composition 9.75 10.00 9.50 9.75 Interpretation 10.00 9.75 9.75 10.00 Total PCS 49.50 49.25 48.75 49.25 Free skatings: detailed comment Component H&L WC 2017 Seimei OWG 2018 Origin SC 2019 TenChi JN 2020 Skating skills 10.00 9.75 9.75 9.75 Transitions 9.75 9.75 10.00 9.75 Performance 9.75 10.00 9.75 9.75 Composition 10.00 9.75 9.50 10.00 Interpretation 9.75 10.00 9.75 9.75 Total PCS 98.50 98.50 97.50 98.00 Many people would probably say that programs with errors (LGC 2016, Seimei 2018, Origin 2019) must not get such high PCS, but I think that these programs are paramount examples that a performance does not automatically suffer from minor mistakes in the components. In case of LGC and Seimei (and also WTT LMEY) those mistakes even add to the drama and entertainment factor that would be actually missed in a perfectly clean skate. I also experienced that it's almost impossible to perfect all 5 components at the same time. Your skating skills and composition can suffer from very packed choreos with many difficult transitions, while huge speed and a very energetic performance makes it very hard to execute steps and turns cleanly and so on. That's why I think that LGC deserves the most 10s. Despite the ridiculous speed and transition escalation the skating quality, musicality and performance do not really suffer. That makes the program extra special.

I heard that instead of the usual Carnival on Ice show the skaters will present their SPs in a "competition-like" setting. Would be very Yuzu-ish actually to pick an event where he can wait with the SP announcement until the very last second

If I got it right, the entries for the Asian Open Trophy must be submitted until today 10th September, 20:00 Beijing time. That means in 10 minutes They will probably be announced on the event page within the next few hours. Do you think, a certain someone will go?

Congrats to LMEY for surpassing the winning free skate in Stockholm by more than 2 Mio. views on the Sportschau. #SorryNotSorry

I think, it's both. Especially now with the 4A training and big changes of his body he surely needs someone for monitoring. Many damages to your body are not visible when you train, that only specialists can identify and take proper countermeasures in time. Having access to physio is definitely recommended in his case. Totally different topic. This is a survey that I wanted to do a long time ago: What would you say are the top 3 Yuzu programs or single performances in the 5 different program components (skating skills, transitions, performance, composition and interpretation) and why? I am especially interested in the reasoning for skating skills and composition. You don't have to list up everything, just what comes to your mind and really stands out for you. I would be very grateful for responses with detailed reasonings

I'm still sceptical if Yuzu really returns tbh. ➕ ➖ - He would be with his coaches and choreographers again (live monitoring and feedback included) - He would have some competition in training again - No time zone issues with remote coaching - Access to physio (maybe he has it in JP already?) - More crowded rink and less space for 4A practice - Less freedom with music rotations and RTs (unless he's allowed to train outside the regular sessions) - Lot more travelling and jetlag issues (all his competitions will be in Asia/Europe) - Either living alone (risky for people with asthma) OR ask his mom to leave Sendai and family again OR share an apartment with someone else - Canada is not Japan - Toronto is not Sendai - Without Habi it's all pointless anyway I have the feeling that Yuzu will not leave Sendai again for a longer period. Not even for the sake of his career. But I might be wrong.

Yes! I really love this camera perspective, too! I tried to add it to the compilation, but my current editor couldn't synchronize the footage with the original music properly. Confession: I love the ocean wave-like arm movements of the IB in Dory aka Wings of Words! They are SO gorgeous and perfectly in tune with the music! It really deserves more attention. And this pivot 3T, too:

Thank you It's really amazing to read how different we are in our preferences and the reasons behind our choices. Many love the softness and delicacy of the gala programs like Haru Yo Koi or Notte Stellata. Then there many who love the performance and loud cheers from the crowd like the special emotions at the Olympics or Skate Canada. Some look at the technical finesse and complexity of the transitions, others at the creativity of the arm movements... The list is endless and it's fantastic!

Thank you so much everyone for the nice comments!

Wish Yuzu and all Fanyus a fantastic day

I talked about this with my mom recently. There was a time when I really lost hope in our society - that materialism and deep rooted prejudices have turned many people into irrevertible idiots, even a good number of our own friends and relatives. Without my parents I would have felt pretty lonely sometimes. Where are the people who do not just talk about respect but really MEAN and practice it? Where are the people who give more to the world than they take away from it? Where are the people who truly treasure their craft and don't betray or misuse it? When I first saw Yuzu at the 2016 Grand Prix Final, it was his skating that impressed me. But there are many other people who's craft had a strong impact on me, so that alone doesn't make me follow someone's journey so closely. It's more the fact that - despite being a famous person - he lives and incorporates those human values that are precious to me. Probably that's why I often feel this strong need to defend him and fight for him. Some people told me to be careful, that he might be a totally different person in reality than what we see through the camera lenses. Yes, that might be true. However, the Yuzuru Hanyu I know is a person who has earned my trust over many years with actions that I appreciate. I am aware that he might disappoint me one day like many others did, but if I cannot even trust people like him, I cannot trust anyone. So I take the risk to trust one more time.

There was a time, when I felt the same way. I was worried that many casual viewers might be negatively influenced by the judges and the media and not be able to fully appreciate Yuzu as a skater. But the past few seasons changed my view and I am no longer worried really. Stockholm was the absolute best example: Yes, Nathan got the gold medal and higher scores, but it was Yuzu who conquered social media, who earned countless new fans across the globe and his short program on the German Sportschau has reached almost 2 million views more than the winning freeskate. Last week I read many new German comments from people who are not into FS, and they agreed with the commentator that the score for LMEY was too low compared to the other skaters. No matter how hard the ISU and media try, people with working eyeballs and open mind know what's going on. The majority of people is very well able to appreciate and enjoy Yuzu's skating and their number is growing day by day. Those few who are not, don't deserve any better and it's pointless to argue with them. I am sure that Yuzu is disappointed and frustrated about the scoring, but I'm also sure that the respect from his fellow skaters, the adoration from all the young talents and unconditional love from his fans is the biggest treasure and victory for him. These achievements cannot be bought.

I think, the time has come for a new edition of our Yuzu Tribute Bingo. This time for the Olympic season. Let's go!
-
I'm not sure if he's doing himself a favor with this choice. We have just seen a stellar performance from the man himself a few days ago and the comparison will be there. White Legend is a program that is very precious to Yuzu, as it was the first program he skated after the Tohoku Earthquake, that encouraged him to return to the ice and continue after the desaster, and that he skated in many charity events. This is something that goes far beyond a casual short program. It would be particularly awkward if Yuzu and Nam both skated their SPs to the same piece next season.
-
Nam skating to White Legend? Eh... lol? So Nam is either going full fanboy mode next season or the ISU messed up the page updates again.
-
I have two theories: a) They miss the fanyu clickbait waves and wanted to test how many of us still follow their trash page. b) They systemically prepare to announce him as Olympic Champion next season, without the annoying "two-time"-addition. Not that people are so delulu to buy that, but yeah... pathetic organizations are pathetic.

My mom had a vision of Yuzu and Dimash performing together in Beijing... And I can't help but imagine: China's two virtually adopted children crashing Weibo, Bilibili and TikTok BEFORE the performance has even started...
-
The worst thing that can happen is Yuzu getting ill, injured or hurt in another way. The rest would be disappointing, but I could get over it. My general mood is: I would actually laugh if Yuzu landed the 4A with a great skate, but missed the podium. Imagine the absolute despair of the journalists in the official press conference, having prepared 95% of the questions for the man who isn't there. Everyone whining and screaming and lamenting over their own dug grave, while Yuzu's crashing the view counter on YouTube and TikTok and enjoying a sublime peaceful dinner in his ninja-bubble.

I wanted to create this very exclusive scoresheet ages ago and finally found the time to complete it. Wish you all a nice weekend and I hope, it gives you a good laugh, too

Seriously. If taking a jump out is equal to regression, then Nathan is regressing even more than Yuzu. In the 17/18 season Nathan jumped all 5 types of quads and landed 6 in the freeskate. He hasn't landed a clean 4Lo in international competition for years, the only new jump in his arsenal is the 4T+1Eu+3F combo and with the new repetition rules he could only attempt a max of 5 quads in the free in the current cycle. In most competitions he used 4-quad-layouts. Since 17/18 Yuzu has added the 4T+3A sequence, the 4T+1Eu+3F combo, upped the number of quads in the free from 4 to 5 in Torino and landed the 4T+1Eu+3S for the first time with positive GOE. Even if we don't talk about the quality and only look at the plain content, it's a big development, especially at the age of 25-26. Yuzu has shown that he can jump a textbook quad Lutz if he wants to, it's nicely archived on video for the history books. No need to keep it for shabby 2-3 GOE. Yes, it's gorgeous, but Yuzu has other gorgeous jumps in his arsenal and a 4Lz with 0 prerotation is always a ticking time bomb, very dangerous to attempt. It's not an element that you can casually store in your bag without putting a lot of effort into it. I totally understand if he shifts his focus to the quad Axel. It's suicidal enough to practice one of the two, and edge jumps fit the softness and flow of TenChi much better anyway. After Torino I really asked myself: is this what we want to see? Yuzu torturing himself with 5-quad-layouts and fight through the program? Tank empty, he did not even have enough energy left to hold the ending pose. And what was the reward? An almost 40 point defeat in the combined total. If anyone thinks that a quad Lutz will solve Yuzu's problems - I tell you, it won't. A perfectly clean TenChi program may not guarantee him a win either, but it's a performance that will be remembered and rewatched for decades. A performance that will give people happiness in every corner of our solar system. That is more worth than any medal or title.

To celebrate Yuzu's great performances in 2021 (+JNats 2020), I created this short video upgrade. I still had the first version saved in my editor, so it was more like a bonus round this time, but no matter how many times I replay these 2 minutes, I'm still in awe of his insane skills
-
This sped-up version - especially the audio track of Hana ni nare - is so hilarious, I just can't And I like the camera angles of the EVERY footage a lot more. Happy that we got both.

The shade lol. This post has been tagged by yuzuangel as [NEWS].

About LMEY: Yes to everything above. Ballade: I liked the transitions and interpretation more at 4CC, the performance and composition more at Olys. So PCS should be about the same. The 4S and the combo were a bit cleaner in quality at 4CC, but the 10% bonus at Olys should close the gap. So overall both skates a 114 for me. Personally, I really liked GPF and ACI, too. GPF was super in tune with the music, but a bit rough in skating, especially the step sequence. ACI had a perfection and calmness that impressed me a lot. No tension at all, as if it was the most natural thing to do. So yeah: 114 Olympics, 4CC (and FaOI Makuhari with 4Lo) 112 ACI 110 GPF and Boston Worlds If we imagine SC Otonal practice with spins, that would have been a deserved 112-113, too. Best Otonal we got, but still one point behind Oly and 4CC Ballade because of the music edit. With ACI 2018 music edit and layback spin 114
