  1. See I've never understood the fascination with ladies' singles in the US. The Americans have had great skaters in all disciplines over the years, many big winners, but the ones who get the Disney parades and all the star treatment are the girls. Why? It smacks of an undue regard for archaic feminine stereotypes to me.
  2. This year's bird theme was phoenix tho, not swans...
  3. here's a thought: they could just let Nathan be Nathan, and his audience will find him, instead of the other way around. From there support and interest will build. Nathan's likeable enough. But IMO the saviours of American figure skating are/should be the Shib sibs. They've got the appeal, they've got the chops, and they're already doing it through their own social media anyway. I hope they come back to competition soon.
  4. the way I see it, the skaters (and any athletes really) also proclaim the work of God's hands and reflect His glory because He made them able to do great things. However, this is not a religious forum and I don't want to make others uncomfortable, so that's all I want to say about it for now. but it is nice to know we both see it
  5. And Kozlovski looks like a high schooler at senior prom...nice tux though.
  6. All the things Yuzu has said about how competing is what makes him happy, and about how having a strong opponent gives him a thrill and makes him want to win even more, reminds me of two things: 1. every shonen manga protagonist ever. 2. that Bible verse from Ps 19 that describes the sun as 'rejoicing as a strong man to run a race'; the theme being 'the heavens declare the glory of God'. Yuzu absolutely sounds like 'a strong man rejoicing in testing his mettle in a race. yeah. my Yuzu obsession keeps pointing me back to my faith. Is that weird?
  7. Except that Yuzu's coaching team is on the ball and would catch him long before he slid too far down that slippery slope...
  8. Be sure to revive in time for the final tomorrow...even if you're undead, you can still watch.
  9. Ha! Wine? At this rate I'll need Valium...
  10. @Sombreuil covered it. basically it sounded like he might be planning something very reckless to me...
  11. Oh, that doesn't sound reassuring at all. What's our boy going to do? What crazy risk is he planning to take?
  12. This line: "There is some doubt over whether Hanyu will actually train on Monday as he has not been seen yet in the local area." ...is whoever runs the Olympic Channel Twitter, a satellite? Because that sounds exactly like what we were just talking about a little earlier in the Worlds Fluff Event Discussions thread.
  13. Totally a Phoenix. He's arisen from the ashes so many times already...
  14. but he wasn't even wearing a naked costume!!! seriously, it is a mystery how social media sites filter content...
  15. Yuzu not in Japan yet, Javi commentating...cripes, they're really trying to kill us all off in one go, aren't they? And much thanks to Mura for that ice-level video, giving all of us a chance to see Worlds ice from a skater's perspective.
  16. "If it wasn't for Yuzuru Hanyu, I would never have become a psychic."
  17. Now that would be trolling at the ultimate level...
  18. I dunno guys, I think it's just as likely that he flew out earlier in the week and is already in Japan. That makes the most sense for him, in my opinion.
  19. I think you did a fantastic job on the interview, and asked really good questions.
  20. I can just picture a hurricane of baby booties flying off those needles in all directions, and miles of cable-stitched lace trailing behind
  21. Google Translate also has it's moments. It usually translates his name as 'Hanyu string' or 'Hanyu knitting'...and when the -senshu is there, he is suddenly a 'string player' or a 'knitting player'....needless to say, most of the time I'm re-translating the Googlish into real English in my head afterwards. So yeah. Yuzuru Hanyu, competitive knitter, that's him. I can only imagine what it does in reverse, from English to Japanese...
  22. Okay, the puppeteer with the doll is just.... what are they trying to accomplish there?
