Wow, that headline REALLY highlights just how diametrically opposed the RusFed and JSF attitudes towards judging their best athletes are.

Perhaps because of his experience being called upon to be that icon of hope for 3/11, Yuzu is quicker to recognize the need for such an icon now and knows that he is in a position to be one such. One could hope more people with his kind of influence would follow suit.

All that is dependent on what kind of visa they have for entry to Canada, though.

Whoever said that has something wrong with their ears. About Yuzu training alone and his reaction to it: remember that at TCC, he works with a group of other skaters, many of whom have become good training comrades and friends. He's got to be missing all that, not just having coaches. Think of how emotional yuzu was when he found out Javi was retiring and wasn't going to be training with him anymore. Now think of how hard it must have hit when Yuzu realized that Jun, Jason, Evgenia, Katerina, Conrad, Joseph etc suddenly were not going to be by his side training every day, for the foreseeable future. Like, seriously, does no one realize he likes his training mates and probably misses them horribly? I'm sure he'd be back at TCC like a shot the second it's safe.

One of the things you learn (by osmosis) as an athlete, if you are paying attention well, is how to coach, especially if you've had great coaches train you,as Yuzu has had. If he decides to become a coach, I think he will be very successful indeed.

That philosophy only works for translations between two languages that are both definitive in grammatical structure and word meaning. But not every language is designed to be that way. Japanese is one of those ones known for not necessarily lending itself to word-by-word translation. But even in translations between two languages that allow word-for-word translation, you can get funny results. For example French: La plume de ma tante est fini. English: 1. My aunt's pen is done. 2. The pen of my aunt is finished. 3. My aunt's feather is done. 4. The feather from my aunt is finished. 5. The pen from my older female family friend is broken and so on, depending on the intent and slang of the speaker. The translator should never twist the words they're translating. But they should definitely consider all possible meanings and try to give the best sense possible of what the speaker wants to convey

This is exactly what I feel about Yuzu every time he skates in every program he does. Other skaters perform their programs. Yuzu goes out on the ice and simply is, with his skating becoming an expression of his existence. There's no barrier between Yuzu, the person, and Yuzu, the skater, if that makes sense. For other athletes, skating is an overlay on top of their real selves. IMO for Yuzu, skating is his real self.

Anyway, satellites, I probably won't be able to stop by again until after the SP, so I'll just leave this here: Merry Christmas! Also, try to remember to breathe at least once during Yuzu's program...I'd hate to come back to a Planet-full of dead fanyus. I mean, Yuzu will knock'em dead anyway but there's no point in hastening the process.

The Olympic Channel quoted something Brian said in a July interview about not having been in video contact with Yuzu and I hate that S#$t because every time a journalist does it, it always comes with these insinuative overtones implying that there's something wrong. And it's really unfair and kind of muck-racking and bothers me a lot.

And it's not like Yuzu is totally without friends there. For example, he and Stephane have known each other for years and so have quite a few of the athletes skating. It would be better if Ghislain or Brian were there but it's not a repeat of Torino by any means

Well, I suspect lessons were learned after he went wilding with the 4A in Torino with no coaches there to advise prudence

Speculation is fruitless, we're never gonna know the real story. IMO if Yuzu wants/needs Brian's input, he'll have asked for it for sure. But Yuzu's also got 20 years experience in skating, himself. He can probably handle solo practice

It always makes me anxious whenever I see things in the media saying that Brian and him aren't in touch. Because Yuzu left to his own devices does wild things... about Pooh-san: Yuzu is probably planning to thoroughly clean and disinfect everything he brings to Nagano when he gets back home. Maybe he doesn't think original Pooh-san would survive such a vigorous cleaning, so left him at home and brought a sturdier one instead?

Ahh, it does my heart good to see those... Yuzu looks so focused and serious. I'm sure he's going to dazzle us. And Shoma has matured a lot - you can see it in his face. Honestly, those photos don't give me the same sense of apprehension that I got from looking at all the Russian competitions this year. I'm confident now that everybody at JNats is taking the COVID threat seriously and being careful. Japan's men's field is so deep...all those guys have a good chance of being on the podium right behind Yuzu.

Also, there's something cutesy and cozy about Yuzu calling 4A 'yon -A' instead of 'yonkaiten axuru'...it has the same energy as if Sir Edmund Hillary were to call Mt Everest 'Evvie-chan' . It makes it sound as if Yuzu has made friends with Lady Axel there.

Wow. we really added 16 pages of comments since yesterday based on one short interview where Yuzu basically said "Ha ha, I tell you NOTHING! Muwhahaha!" Yuzuru Hanyu, Troll King, ladies and gentlemen. He must be dying with laughter right now.
