I don't think it has anything to do with self-criticism, like my impression of the interviews/sources said that mama Yumi pretty much let Yuzu do whatever he wants (like gaming till morning and sleeping till noon lmao), never criticised Yuzu's skating, and Yuzu's insistence on perfection came long before he described this incident - there was a time when he was a kid where he'd train till midnight and refuse to get off the rink because he hasn't mastered a jump, and he just wanted keep winning like Plushenko I suppose - but showing gratefulness to others is something they cannot compromise on. It's a common value, not often preached but highly regarded. Also regarding the pressure, he has learned long ago to turn them into strength, like he main motivation for Olympics, breaking world records and such are clearly his personal desire, and has little to do with expectations. Sure they do weigh on him, but it's just his childhood dream to get 2 gold medals, he had told Brian that before Sochi 2014, and there are videos on his mindset for the 2015 GPF record. Perhaps it's cultural difference, when I read it it didn't come across that way, I thought it's pretty normal. Although I agree that mama Yumi is a strong person, she made sure to make meals that Yuzu could digest well (I heard he can't eat a lot of stuff lol), did a lot of things to support him, and being away from your husband for most of 6-7 years now must be difficult. The lady in your video is another person, we had a recent footage of Kobayashi with Yuzu/Brian/Ghislain and she still looked exactly the same as Sochi 2014, short hair and all.

She does travel with him to competitions and attends them, fans reported that he babbled nonstop on the plane for hours to his mum who probably just nodded lol. He also said that whenever he thought of giving up, it's his mum who said stern words to him to push him out of negative thoughts. The Hanyu family is very private and does not want to show themselves publicly, mama Hanyu actually hid herself whenever journalists crowd around Yuzu at the airport lol. They just thought that whatever Yuzu did was the result of his own hard work, and didn't want to take the limelight whatsoever. Why would Dai reject an ice show with Yuzu? I thought those are just his fan’s actions? Also, I agree that the Ice Show arrangements are more of a marketing strategy than pride. It's an illusion that skaters have 100% liberty to go to any ice show he wants without some commercial pressure here and there, especially from their sponsors. I mean Yuzu is constrained to only do advertisements for ANA, Lotte, P&G, Phiten and a select few brands, due to the interest of the sponsors to maintain exclusivity - that's why you don't see Yuzu on sport brands, which is an oddity for an athlete. More advertisements means more revenue for Yuzu, but less revenue for his sponsors because now people can get Yuzu products from other places, not necessarily theirs. I doubt people will buy 20 chewing gums for the Xylitol files if other companies have them too.

here's my attempt lol. From making this I can see why heavily prerotated jumps are often unstable, and why timing of takeoff is so important in edge jumps. Also makes prerotated jumps much smaller as forward velocity is lost to create the "rotation" on ice, basically less air time. In this illustration, you can see it's still possible to travel forward with 180 PR on non axel takeoffs, but not possible to travel forward with 180 PR on axel takeoffs. Matches with what Chib said I guess. Hope I took all the forces into account. Glad I could apply what I learned in school though lol.

He said he incorporated the concept of "wa" in his program, for both SEIMEI and Hope & Legacy, that's why it feels different from others. Theres a very long topic / discussion about this on Youtube I think, in vids of the creation of SEIMEI / Hopulega, also he mentioned it a bit after the olympics with Shuzo Matsuoka.

Well it's one thing to land it in practice as a solo jump, and another to have it good enough to land in competition with choreography and stuff. I mean Yuzu's been doing fully rotated 4S+3A, 4T+3A+3A and 4Lo+3A in galas since 2012-15 but he probably doesn't have the stamina to pull it off during competition.
