I'm not surprised if there's a bit of projection happening between 'Japanese native trained' vs 'foreign trained' - it's just unfortunate Yuzu and Shoma are perfect opposites in that regard so it becomes another point of comparison/separation of the two (though a subtextual one...no one would actually come out and say it but there is a lot of loyalty-to-country type attitudes that gets talked about every so often). The bigger point that his JP critics seem to latch onto sometimes is that Yuzu isn't really typically Japanese in a lot of his attitudes - to me (and a lot of us in Western countries), it reads as confidence and admirable drive but Japan tends to discourage the sort of self confidence and shameless thirst for number one (as well as Yuzu's...more flamboyant Extra-ness and love for showing off what he can do - their word for it seems to be 'narcissist', which...kind of tells you how they regard it, even though he's nowhere close to the actual English definition). He ameliorates it by being impeccably polite at all times, restraining himself to a degree in front of JP media and his confidence works because he never boasts about things he can't do... but he's definitely a bit of an anomaly. Thankfully I'd say it's just his naysayers... the general public/media he works with seem to be charmed by him as they should. (it's also sad because he clearly adores his country. Also I don't believe Shoma is involved at all so it's just unfortunate for both of them)

Plushenko apparently said that Yuzu will be able to rewrite/update the world record many times at the Olympics according to the tweet. I feel like Plushenko has always spoken quite candidly about Yuzu's potential but I'm sure it'll make him happy to know he has his idol's support (I wonder if it also means 'in the journey to the Olympics as subtext or if he means 'at the actual Olympics'. May be clearer in context of entire article)
