$475,000 to a Swedish collection. pretty crazy

I just put all my 2018 ice show season twitter translations into a compilation post, aka. live tweets from fans as the show was happening in real time. Despite some of the shows being broadcast so some of these threads are obsolete, may be interesting for fans wanting to know what happened the other days (also includes things like the P&G talk shows that probably won't be broadcasted). .......honestly what off-season?? http://kaerb.tumblr.com/post/174975857304/2018-ice-show-off-season-fan-account
-
I know... but I'm still sad we don't get to see them ;; oh well
-
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this is from 2016 (check the tweet date) - this was after the NHK special exhibition. The problems of recycling....and never ageing.... I'm really sad about the absence of Yuzu and JP fanboy new photos, I thought at least Mitsuki or someone would have gotten a photo with him ; __ ; (clearly only Rika was brave enough lol)

Here's the best and most comprehensive explanation I've read from Shae-Lynn's own mouth https://www.facebook.com/groups/1610393525875114/permalink/1813272922253839/

Well there's no way you can really be coy about wanting the 4A lol it's not like he can say 'I want to do my best to break new grounds for jumps'...there's only one left right now : P anyway his goal seems to be twofold - his more 'typical' principle-like goal to put more of 'himself' in his programs (probably through trying new music/program styles) and slowly work his way to the 4A (a concrete result). He wouldn't come out and say it if he hasn't got reasonable belief he can do it, I'd say there's always more that people do in practice than they ever show in competitions. He actually framed the OGM as a 'results related' goal in the interview and it makes sense. I've never felt he was only aiming for the gold medals in his competitions or stuff like 'I want to repeat as champion' for its own sake - it was always kind of the byproduct of delivering an ideal performance and pushing himself to higher levels (and indeed he was somewhat unsatisfied with some golds he got when he won but didn't deliver his ideal). But I felt like the 2nd OGM was one of his few concrete 'I must achieve this result' goals. So again, I'm so glad he did that.
-
Mm fair point. But it does make the 'maximum' limit for a program much more concrete than it was, and also limits the options for low-mid-level skaters to become more competitive unless they do push themselves to add quads and/or to put their jump combos at the end. Which is good in some ways but also more dangerous like you said, for both injury and really low marks if they risk a combo and pop it. The rule changes apply to both fields so I'm concerned about the ladies here more than anything.
-
We are talking about the guy who added complicated spin entries to LGC that didn't count for his levels just because it fit the program lol. What concerns and annoys me is how the new rule basically stops development because skaters had to build endurance, strength etc. to be able to backload their jumps and now they have no incentive to do so as long as they can reach the 'optimum' level of executing the 2-1, 4-3 layout (with the last jumps as combos). That's a concrete, definite goal. In some ways, it might help them focus on quality of jumps since they no longer have to weigh up the cost-benefit of backloading more jumps but it basically also places a ceiling on points achievable unless they add more jump varieties and/or build their PCS/GOEs. I'm not terribly worried about yuzu, I think he'll do whatever he wants. Actually this probably increases his incentive to master all types of quads and/or consistency because there's not much he can do to push his marks higher
-
The newly passed rule that only the last jumping pass in the SP and last 3 in the FS get the bonus points means that he'll very likely do 3 combos for the FS to maximise the marks. And the most strategic thing to do would obviously be to get your jumps out early (ie. 4-3) while you're not as tired and since now there's no reward for adding an extra jump in the 2nd half. Though I wouldn't put it past yuzu specifically to do something else if the ~art~ of the program calls for it. It's an idiotic measure on the ISU's part since like...basically everyone will be incentivised to do that, leading to way more uniformity in the programs than if they'd just kept backloading and punished bad choreo or obviously unbalanced backloaded programs through PCS or some other way =___= (imagine if they actually utilised the CO category the way it supposedly is designed!) And no for the short, you'd want a combo as your last jumping pass with the bonus to maximise your marks and since he was doing the 4T-3T this season, I can't imagine why he'd go back to the old layout.
-
lol yes, the tickets would not still be available if yuzu was there. hanyuconomy is a real thing the first priority for broadcast will be the one yuzu is featured in, let's be honest. if I were a broadcaster, that would be a no-brainer. but there's a chance they might air the other dates later, they tend to do that : /
-
I saw someone's tweet mentioning perhaps this was to encourage more ticket sales? nngh, guess we'll have to wait for the fan reports ;;
-
i was about to say at least then we may have to fight less aunty fans to see him if that's the case but then i imagined a line stretching around 5 blocks to go and oogle at him standing on a plinth and...nevermind.
-
Yep, I got the tickets for all three days. I'm crossing my fingers. After olympic season, I'm a bit traumatised to assume anything, just silently pray that he'll be there Can you go on Thursday/Friday? There may be the SP at the very least. As someone for whom any competition means an international flight, I'm just the enabler for people who have the comp on their doorsteps. Otherwise...hm. You could consider an early birthday celebration just for him (or afterwards) if your sibling doesn't place too much emphasis on having to celebrate on the exact day of his birthday.
-
I just got tickets to all three days! And I'm praying and hoping at least someone from TCC will be there but I don't want to jinx it ; __ ;
-
Congratulations miracle boy ;; After all he’s been through, I take this award as vindication for just how special he has been to the sport and for what a true feat of determination and strength his Pyeongchang victory was — the more they reveal about his condition, the more profoundly I respect him for managing to do what he did. May he be treated kindly by life, may he be happy and may his supporters’ voices always drown out the others

im dying I don't think I've ever seen the full interview or at least the part where yuzu basically admits he's a magpie for golden stuff (did he just say he was interested in tea that has gold in it?) (trust the boy with no interest in food to really want to eat gold...which has no taste or nutritional value...just shiny prettiness.... )
-
Kanazawa Local News and the clip that keeps on giving (I'm still laughing about Javi and the interviewer at the end is a whole mood) someone at least shove the boy a gold leaf icecream, he's in Kanazawa c'mon

Yuzu's been coveting Boyang's 4Lz for an age and a half and I'm almost certain BOrser would have cleared it with all the skaters before taking on new charges especially with Yuzu if it's Boyang. I'm so excited about how they'll mutually challenge and push each other ( :
-
im still processing honestly, but oh my god, I’m so happy?? I hope TCC will do wonders for boyang’s skating, control his jumps and work on his SS/packaging/politicking. Bravo to CSA for going for it (I’m lowkey hoping there will be official statement from the Fed soon because I’m paranoid). But the thought of him and yuzu wildin with jumps and learning from each other is ; __ ;

Roughly... she absolutely wants to add the 3A to her program this season. Went to Toronto to train the 3A in May - among other things - with Ghislain but only for a week. She spoke about thinking if you have strong skating skills, you can overcome deficiencies in jumps but because of speed, the jump timings may not match so she's realising lately that speed isn't everything. She says she tends to mess up the timing of jumps during comps so timing is something she's focusing on. Goal is to win JNats and appear at GPF every year and wanting to peak at every comp, as well as add more TR. SP by Shae-Lynn, FS apparently by Yuka Sato. I just hope she stays healthy... the fixation on the 3A bothers me a little since she does struggle with recovering from mistakes and it's such a huge thing to have in a program, but I really hope she lands it.
-
lol...that's the one thing you won't have to worry about, I can guarantee it (I'm a bit sad for some of the other skaters though, but broadcast times are broadcast times I guess...)

Uh yeah so I got emotional about this and the translation slipped out - it's kind of bare bones because I just skipped the acting bits and the footage we've seen already (which has also already been translated) to just get to the small bits of new stuff gleaned from Brian's interviews. If someone can help link the relevant footage and translations in case new fans need it, that would be great. Tumblr version: http://kaerb.tumblr.com/post/174250437544/the-ntv-docudrama-about-yuzuru-and-brian Copied below: The NTV “docudrama” about Yuzuru and Brian unexpectedly had some good content that made me really emotional (if you just…well…skip the acting. except for that ‘hi’ asflkj that was lowkey on point AF). This Olympics was truly…sigh. Truly a miracle. Thank you yuzu and everyone around him. I’m just…so glad we’re living in this reality. Disclaimer: I am not a professional translator, only a Japanese student practising my skills. While I do check dictionaries and many resources to ensure I’m getting as much accurate as possible, my abilities are limited, I lack a lot of cultural knowledge and I try to always acknowledge where I’m not certain about translations. I am always open to more precise corrections from native speakers, please just let me know ( : I translated the bits with Brian at TCC already Starting at 13:44 Brian: I wasn’t at the [NHK Trophy] but found out from team staff that Yuzuru had taken a bad fall. When I checked the video, I quickly knew it was serious and that it needed long term treatment and rehabilitation. Narrator: After 2wks of the injury, Brian met with Yuzu - who was still on crutches - in Toronto. Brian: In front of me, Yuzuru was acting like he was in good spirits/calm but in front of other staff, he became emotional. He had a lot of worries about whether he would really be able to make a comeback. At the time, Brian confirmed Yuzuru’s wishes. Brian: Yuzuru, you have 3mths until the Olympics. What do you want to do? Yuzuru: I want to win at the Olympics. I absolutely want to repeat as champion. Brian: That’s okay. We have time. With that, Yuzuru began his training. 2mths until the Olympics: (footage of Kobayashi reading out Yuzuru’s statement about the state of his ankle and how he’s doing his best with treatment and rehabilitation) Narrator: In truth, due to inflammation in his tendon and bones, the situation had worsened. They had expected to resume training on the ice 1mth from the injury but Yuzuru had not been able to even stand on the rink. Brian: Yuzuru spent a lot of time on his own and I expect he had a lot of doubt and worry about whether he could make the Olympics on time. But he transformed all those ‘minuses’ into ‘pluses’. There were 3 things Yuzuru did to achieve this 1. Studying anatomy. In order to more deeply understand his own injury, Yuzuru studied the structure of bone and muscles. While intently listening to his own body, he patiently proceeded with training according to the plan. (old footage of Yuzuru studying his university courses from last year - NNN documentary has the full footage) 2. Yuzuru watched a lot of videos and did image training to exercise the brain (footage of Yuzuru watching his old videos and checking his form in front of the mirror - says he basically watches footage of his successful jumps and tries to imitate the timing etc.) 1 month until Olympics, at the ceremony for the athletes confirmed to be going, Hanyu did not appear but did send a comment to those supporting him. 2mths after the injury, Yuzuru finally returned to the ice. However, he once again felt pain and couldn’t proceed with his training. According to Noguchi Yoshie (who covered Hanyu’s injury and has apparently been covering Hanyu since 10yrs ago?): “If he’s jumping with pain every time, it will unconsciously take over. Whether it’s knees or calves, somewhere will hurt. According to what Hanyu-senshuu said, they didn’t know the cause. Every single day, he was searching for what the injury was, repeatedly. 2wks until the Olympics: Brian and Yuzuru had their final practice alone in Toronto. Brian: There was very little time but I thought it may be possible to bring him into peak condition. 5 days until the Mens SP: footage of Yuzuru arriving at the airport and his words there – here lies the third behaviour that allowed him to change his injury into a ‘plus’ (strength). 3. Yuzuru analysed his own words in previous press conferences where he had done well. Noguchi-san: ‘In these competitions with these feelings I said these things’ and ‘in this mental state, I was able to win’, he reviewed them all. In the post victory interview with Ueda, Ueda asked if Yuzu’s statements of ‘I want to win’ were about inspiring him. Yuzu said it was more about feeling like he had to decide or lock in the future or it wouldn’t work and it was a form of mental control. 3 days until Mens SP - footage of Yuzuru’s troll practice (singles + one (1) 3A). What was the state of his right leg then? Brian: He had taken painkillers but the pain had not disappeared. However, he absolutely didn’t allow anyone to see the pain he was in. (SP) Brian: I was extremely satisfied but I saw Yuzuru was a little disappointed he didn’t break the world record. (FS) Brian: It really was a miracle. There’s no other athlete who possesses mental strength like Yuzuru’s. Q: Do you where this strength comes from, how he developed it? Brian: Good question. It may be that Yuzuru needs adversity. Through overcoming difficulties, he continues to grow. Yuzuru is the genuine world champion.* Yuzuru: It’s really fun to do difficult things. Ultimately, I’m happy when I can do difficult things and get a great sense of fulfilment. It’s truly incredible to not have limits. *He basically means ‘the real deal’ or like…the ‘true’ world champion in relation to being able to live up to the name.
