  1. It could be both the Anti-Hanyu-PC rule or the We-Don't-Like-Nathan-repeating-4lz rule. Both work really. Also we could call it "Guys go get all the quads or go home" rule. But hey~
  2. The Javi/Caro rule to the Zagitova rule of yesterday? We're on a roll ISU.
  3. Nah, wait until they forget to do something like check the IP protection on the emoji and then get sued. Then they need to retract all the medal emojis, and skaters and fans are informed that new medal emojis are forthcoming, but due to budget issues they can't hire a decent enough intern to do the actual design. A square placeholder is used for a year while a reasonable priced intern/freelancer is located.
  4. They don't understand digital formats of music, but they probably understand this thing called "twitter" and "mobile phones" -so for ultimate financial savings, all skaters will be required to submit their SNS for e-medals. Then the ISU realizes they cannot agree on the media format of the e-medal and engages in an investigation into the relative merits of JPG format, versus TGA format, versus moving GIF formats and maybe TIFF formats, afterwards someone will get into the issue about copyrights and IP protection for the PSD files used in medal creation. There will be concerns about lawsuits regarding font type usage and whether the stock fonts with photoshop will be permissable. They then run into problems when the CHN fed mentions that VPNs are not legally allowed in China, hence twitter usage becomes a problem, and all skaters need to have a weibo or wechat account to circumvent the fact twitter is banned in China, so CoC is an issue. Someone suggests that CoC is stopped, and instead becomes Cup of Asia, which creates problems as the chinese fed kindly reminds everyone where 2022 will be held. Yuzu misses his e-medal by refusing to get an actual SNS account.
  5. The most important, crucial showing of stand against national bias and corruption: RIP
  6. I don't know...I know the new GOE range is suppose to differentiate qualities more easily, but sometimes I wonder if a +5 is easier under the new GOE range. Don't remember the specifics of the required 3 bullet points to be considered for +5 GOE, but I do recall that nothing in them made me think quads (especially from large fed skaters) won't automatically get those tacked on. To a degree, it might have made more sense to have a flat GOE score, not tied to BV to be added on if the goal is to equalize the triples and quads, and make quality triples matter as much as quads. A +5 GOE 3Lz could hit over 10 pts, which is higher than the current +50% BV. It could make good quality 3-3 combos a bit more enticing, and make 3A's repeated in program a very worthwhile goal.
  7. So essentially the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, and the PCS tie with difficulty doesn't go away. So solo 4Lz and 4F in the second half, with a 3A to end it?
  8. Age wise, Yuzu is the baby brother I never got. (and maybe that's a good thing....I have an odd feeling I'd traumatize him, especially when it comes to summer homework and food like paprika)
  9. Thank you, bookmarking because I really want to see what I can score with +3 GOEs if I do layout hypos. I'm thinking of starting off with : A: 4Lz3T 4F 4Lo 3A//4T2T 3A-lo-3S 3Lz B: 3Lz3T 3F 3Lo 3A//4T2T 4S 3A-lo-3S C: 4Lz2T 4F 3A 3Lo// 3A-Lo-3S 3Lz3T 3Lz As for the 1/3 thingy with backloading, elsewhere there are vivid debates about what skaters will do. *sigh* I think most skaters will do the following: SP: 3A/2A Solo jump//combo jump, especially if steps is still a requirement, but watch that combo jump happen right when we pass the second half mark. LP: 3-4 jumps (4 if you want the safety of having a jump pass to save potential missed combos) right as the second half starts. And then people will wonder, hmm, after the first 20-40 seconds of the second half in the LP, why are we seeing only spins and chSq? It's less risky for stamina if you don't go beyond the max 4 jumps needed to secure your bonus, and for stamina purposes why would you want to push your jumps beyond the initial part of the second half? It's not like you get rewarded (or penalized) for it. Besides, why does music get edited?
  10. Um, does anyone have the new BV (unevenly reduced for quads) link? I want to run hypos with it with imaginary layouts, and see how the new min/maxing works. @LadyLou : I've done math and posted it in the other place. I had 4 hypothetical skaters: Skater A who had 4-5 quad varieties, Skater B who had no quads, skater C who only had 4T and 4S, and skater D who had only 4Lz and 4F (not in combo, not backloaded). Skater D was the only one who could approach skater A for TES scores in the end from jumps, that scared me quite a bit. If you think about it, now with limiting quads and backloading bonuses, you really could win with just 4Lz, 4F and 4Lo/4T/4S, and 4Lz and 4F are the most crucial jumps. =/
  11. I don't mind their judges too much, but I don't quite get their proposals and how they're voting. If you frame their actions into international politics/relations and negotiations theory, it doesn't make much sense. Well actually most of ISU congress doesn't make much sense- the large feds aren't trying to buy the votes of the smaller feds hard enough, smaller feds don't seem to be using their bloc voting powers enough, and no middle power fed has tried to change the status quo (unless China manages to pull through the coffee breaks).
  12. Oh, well then, I guess that's why JPN is so confident? *eyerolls* What did I expect, that feds will actually care for their athletes' health and knees....
  13. Hate to say this, but Japan isn't really a genius for this. This season, okay they don't have to worry. But without the age limitations, next season you get the Russian quad girls in seniors, they have 3As, quads and 3+3's (which will be backloaded). Japan currently has probably only Rika with a fairly stable 3A, and possibly no lady ready for 19/20 with quads. Furthermore, they have ladies like Kaori Sakamoto who can fully backload the SP to make up for BV difference; other ladies like Wakaba or Mai would also benefit from more backloaded jumps having more points. Backloading triples is obviously easier than backloading quads, so I don't think the russian quad girls will go backload quads anytime soon. As for 4Lz and 4F...right now JPN has no male skater who has both. Yuzu could bring back the 4Lz, but he prolly won't go for 4F, and is still unknown for 2022. Shoma has 4F and no 4Lz period. But check which fed does (and was on the technical committee that suggested the 1 jump per type of quad rule-US). I'm not sure what Japan managed to get for doing this, because they could have gone for the less extreme Canadian proposal, which does the same thing but could give them more breathing room. Unless it's something extraordinary like a 20% PCS boost for their ladies, I'm not sure if they passed negotiations 101 class. =/
  14. Last jump...hence last jump will be a combo now...
  15. Nah, I think 4Lz and 4F would be advantageous regardless of the rule. My issue with that rule is simply that the 4Lz and 4F take too much dominance, more than even now. With GOE tied to BVs now, and 4Lz and 4F having such higher BVs, it makes sense to skip go straight for the 4Lz and 4F when you enter the senior ranks, and pretty much touch on 4T and 4S as an afterthought. Actually since most guys seem to be more toe jumpers, I think 4S might be an endangered species. Okay, I'll give it a try this way: if the ISU is dead serious about balancing out quads and giving variety of quads a shot- a) Make a rule that 4Lz 4F and 4A can only appear once in a program, cannot repeat b) triples and 4T, 4S, 4 Lo (the lower BV quads) are subject solely to Zayak rule c) if you have 1 jump of each type in a program (quads and triples for men, quads/triples and 2A for women), give a small bonus in the final TES, like a +6 flat score. That would actually promote more jump variety, while decreasing the prominance of the top BV quads in the final TES score.
  16. Okay, but someone will try. With the ladies, it might balance out a bit more, but men's I don't think so (certainly not with GOEs tied to BVs).
  17. Realistically that's what will happen. that's how you min/max. Watch as guys with 4Lz3T combos and 4F3T combos move it to the second half. With GOEs tied to BVs now, how those scores will SOAR! At this point, if they pass the 1 per type of quad rule too, 4Lz3T and 4F3T combos will be pretty crucial. Don't have it, won't go into top 3. =( This is pretty depressing.
  18. Seriously, with the BV reductions, how the heck do they expect guys who don't jump 4Lz or 4F to catch up? Watch as the last 3 jumping passes in men's in the long are ALL combos.
  19. And of course backloading restrictions go through. Sure...it's not political. We're not blind.. an objective one that could help everyone doesn't pass, but hey, partisan one passes.
  20. I propose they also follow the courts system where you have a court artist painting the scenes and reactions of the various delegates. =D
  21. Well considering words can be music, if they allow a string quartet or live orchestras to play at competitions, I'd love to see someone select rap and we get a new music type-orchestral rap. Now that's innovation in the arts!
  22. Go walk the dogs....give them treats. I'm just listening to this as a practice to control my patience/temper. =D
  23. Seriously, I was flabbergasted. The debate descended into: a) Different feds debating about whether or not their rink could play CDs vs USBs b) debate about moving into the future and digital formats and digital streams and ways to broadcast the music c) Formats and what happens if certain digital formats cannot be played With some suggestions that there is a phase in period, and even concern about back up formats (side note, ISU why don't you guys just say we can have CDs and USBs as acceptable backups?!).
  24. In case for anyone who has missed it, the evil USB stick for music has been defeated. (RIP looking into the future) Well they turned it to the athletes commission, because of course, digital formats, usb sticks and all these modern things are better dealt with by young people. >_<
