I am sorry but no one, not even Yuzu, can look good in this total nerd outfit. If you were intentionally trying to make someone look nerdish, you could not do much better than dress him in an ill fitting beige suit with too long sleeves, green checkered tablecloth shirt and polkadot green tie. (There are places for checkered tablecloth shirts and polkadot ties, but usually not together.) Even Mr. Bean dresses better than this. If they needed to use combinations of green and beige, they could have matched the colours in Tetsuko’s dress in a well thought out ensemble complementing her outfit by starting with a properly fitted suit with a sleeve length showing a touch of cuff. A green suit the colour of the tie in the CM stylishly fitted to Yuzu’s slim body would be a good start. Next, I would suggest a green and white striped shirt, the green being similar to the suit colour. The tie could be a flower pattern, paisley pattern, TenChi pattern or even Tetsuko’s dress pattern predominantly beige with accents of white and green. A beige silk pocket square or a white, beige and green silk pocket square in a different pattern than the tie would be a nice touch. I would have picked tan leather loafers (slip ons) and tan leather belt for the beige suit in the CM as well as the green suit outfit that I have suggested. There are a myriad of other combinations as well, all better than the outfit Yuzu was required to wear. I cannot believe that someone was paid to dress Yuzu like this.

I totally agree because Yuzuru Hanyu is his own harshest critic and is rarely truly and completely satisfied with his performances even when people like Shizuka Arakawa, Nobunari Oda, Shuzo Matsuoka, Massimiliano Ambesi and other expert commentators are raving about them. In his post-performance interviews with Shuzo Matsuoka, even when the program seemed perfect to others, Yuzu almost always seems to express a bit of “kuyashi” and a need to improve.

The scores are meaningless because it is akin to a God being judged by mere ignorant mortals.

I don’t know about Ice Rink Sendai, but fans used to send letters, etc., to the TCC and they would end up on Brian Orser’s desk in the tiny skating office that he shares with Tracy. That does not appear to be an option at this time since Yuzu has not returned to the TCC. If he does return, I would suggest that it be sent to him c/o Erin d’Eon, Skating Coordinator, The Toronto Cricket, Curling and Skating Club. Alternatively, you could send it as an attachment to an email to Erin d’Eon: [email protected] I don’t see any harm in sending a letter to Yuzu c/o Ice Rink Sendai. I thought that there was an address with the JSF for fan mail. Does anybody know anything about this?

They may be the Gleaming Pants of Ascension and Fanyus may ascend to Heaven upon seeing them, but I think it’s because they snugly grace another bootiful part of our boy’s anatomy…

I am not at liberty to disclose the source (“between you and me, I never told you this”), but I have it on good authority that Yuzu’s shoe size is 7.5 US (40-41 in Europe depending on the conversion table). My wife and I gave Yuzu two pairs of size 7.5 US “Axel Arigato” leather sneakers (one black pair and one white pair) before the start of competition at 2019 Skate Canada International in Kelowna. Axel Arigato is a Swedish company and their sneakers are handmade in Portugal with Italian leather. The word “Axel” can only mean one thing. https://axelarigato.com/ca/ Although these are not the sneakers that we got for Yuzu, the box and packaging are the same. There were chopsticks engraved with “Axel Arigato” with each of the two pairs that we bought for Yuzu. One set of chopsticks each for Yuzu and his mother. One of the other gifts that we gave Yuzu at that time had nothing to do with shoes. “Shijo Saiko” means “Greatest in History” in Japanese = “Greatest of All Time” = “G.O.A.T.”

Long time no see! Welcome back! You have to keep cheering for him even after he lands the quad Axel!

[NEWS] Here are 4 pictures of Ghislain that were taken last week as well as an update on his weight loss. The pictures were taken while on vacation with his family in Saguenay, Québec, visiting his in-laws. Apparently it is a fantastic place to stay in shape. In the last week, he cycled a 37 km route twice and walked an 11 kilometer route 5 times. He has now lost 67 pounds (30.39 kg) and has 3 more pounds (1.36 kg) to lose in order to reach his ultimate goal of losing a total of 70 pounds (31.75 kg). This is a picture taken with his father-in-law during one of the 37 km bike rides. This picture was taken during a golf game. These last two pictures were taken during one of his 11 km walks. I think it's great that Ghislain has been exercising and losing all of this weight because it is definitely better for his health, but I also miss the old Ghislain. Yuzu is not going to recognize him when they next meet! The last time they saw each other was in March 2020 just before Yuzu and his mother returned to Japan.

Europe is Region 2 for DVDs. If the DVD is region 2, it can be played on your computer in Germany. If the DVD is not Region 2, it’s still possible to play different region DVDs on your computer. The ISU replacing "ladies" with "women" was so overdue. When I first started following figure skating I wondered why the ISU was using such an archaic term in describing the women's discipline. It seemed to emphasize the femininity, daintiness and fragility of women's figure skating rather than its athleticism, strength and beauty. It should be noted that the ISU did not reach its decision to replace "ladies" with "women" on its own volition. According to insidethegames, "The ISU said the move follows a recommendation from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Equality Review Project that there needs to be a fair and balanced portrayal in how men and women are presented and described." https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1109826/isu-ladies-women-council-decisions The ISU could not or would not figure this out by itself.

I can understand why Shohei Ohtani is Number One in both categories. He and Yuzu have many things in common. I have put my thoughts regarding this under the following spoiler for those who may be interested.

As @Henni147 said, Yuzu is not even at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, but he is still omnipresent, even in Portugal where figure skating is not a big sport. YUZURU HANYU, THE OLYMPIC SKATER WHO RAINS WINNIE THE POOH STUFFED ANIMALS “Now that we are in the heat of the Olympic Games fever, it is a great moment to remember the story of Yuzuru Hanyu, a figure skater from Japan who has Winnie the Pooh as his ally. “Yes, we know that figure skating is a discipline of the Winter Olympics and Tokyo 2020 is part of the summer games, but Beijing 2022 is just around the corner and it is a good reason to meet this great skater. “Yuzuru Hanyu is a double Olympic gold medalist and two-time world champion who is considered by many to be the best skater in Japan and probably the best skater in the history of the sport.” https://animal.mx/2021/07/yuzuru-hanyu-patinador-olimpico-winnie-the-pooh/ Remember to right-click the article and click “Translate to English” if you are unable to read Portuguese.

I like the way Chuck Culpepper of the Washington Post described Yuzu in an article regarding Hideki Matsuyama, the Masters Champion golfer: "Matsuyama finished tied for 16th with Michael Jordan in a Sasakawa Sports Foundation survey of Japan's most popular athletes in late summer 2020, well behind names such as Shohei Ohtani (No. 3) and Naomi Osaka (No. 4) and impossibly brilliant figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu (No. 1)." https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/olympics/2021/07/29/hideki-matsuyama-olympic-golf/

I stand corrected. You are right. You can drop the “O” and just say “DEKO” for forehead. (I asked my wife who is Japanese. Me, I’m a third-generation Japanese-Canadian who just learned something new.)
-
I understand that the Japanese word for “forehead” is “ODEKO”, so shouldn’t “forehead out” be “ODEKODASHI”? Edit: I stand corrected. “Forehead” is “ODEKO”, but the “O” may be dropped to become simply “DEKO”.

Although it's not comparable to the Olympics, I have put my experiences at two Canadian National Judo Championships as well as my thoughts regarding the above under the following spoiler for those who might be interested.

Whoever they are, they are probably very athletic…

When in Japan do as the Japanese do… Take the mattress off the bed and put it on the solid floor and you have a makeshift futon…

[NEWS] I have two new pictures of Ghislain Briand that were taken on his last Friday in Switzerland, July 2 which he would like to share on social media. He returned from Switzerland 10 days ago. He was there for five weeks coaching jumping at Stephane Lambiel’s school. As you may have heard, Barrie, Ontario, was hit by a devastating tornado yesterday. Ghislain and his family are safe and were not affected by the tornado. He has shed 62 pounds (28 kg) “so far”. When I saw the first picture with Stephane Lambiel and company, I did not realize that Ghislain was even there! So what do you think of the “new” Ghislain Briand?

Speaking of squeaking and cheering for Yuzu, if you have not seen this already, you have to watch our @Danibellerika's video of her epic reaction to Yuzu winning his second consecutive gold medal at the PyeongChang Olympics. A word of advice: You might want to turn your volume down before playing this video.

Welcome to the planet! Feel free to ask all the questions you want. I am sure that someone will have the answer. Enjoy!

Yuzu knows the mayor of Sendai and the governor of Miyagi Prefecture (not to mention the Imperial family and the former Prime Minister of Japan). He is the tourism ambassador for Sendai and the most famous athlete in Japan. I’m sure they will figure something out. In addition, the JSF is supposed to be arranging for vaccinations for its skaters. In either case, I don’t think he will be standing in line. Edit: I am just glad to hear that he should be receiving his vaccinations soon.

Yes, a Halloween costume.

There will be no comparison. Only Yuzu has the power to draw huge audiences. I’m sure that I am a typical Yuzu fan in that I will travel 3361 km from Vancouver to Toronto in order to watch Yuzu compete 2.5 minutes in the short program and 4 minutes in the free. Of course, the costume reveal at ACI and his practices are worth it just by themselves. My wife and I have been to three ACIs in 2017, 2018 and 2019. We would not do that for any other skater. I will travel across Canada to catch a glimpse of Yuzu, but I will not be attending SCI this year although I live in Metro Vancouver and the venue is at my old alma mater the University of British Columbia an easy 40 minutes drive from my home. Apparently WestJet flight attendants were heard to say that they had never seen Kelowna International Airport as busy as it was the weekend that Yuzu was there for SCI in 2019. https://www.tourismkelowna.com/industry/industry-news-centre/post/thousands-of-international-visitors-attend-2019-skate-canada-international-in-kelowna/ Skate Canada International 2019 generated $5.3 million in economic activity in British Columbia with $4.5 million of that directly in the Kelowna area. Thanks to Hanyuconomy. https://globalnews.ca/news/6288882/kelowna-skate-canada-international-economic-activity-report/
