  1. The one advantage of the nosebleed seats.
  2. Here’s the full video by Enrique CoMa, Yuzu’s most enthusiastic fan! I never tire of watching this video.
  3. This is an excellent article about Yuzu in THE VARSITY, the University of Toronto's student newspaper since 1880. The University of Toronto is Canada’s top university. Yuzuru Hanyu's mastery of artistry and technique The "Ice King" is the embodiment and hope of figure skating Valerie Yao | March 20, 2022 https://thevarsity.ca/2022/03/20/yuzuru-hanyu-figure-skating/ "Among them, one skater especially stood out to me as the supreme standard of both artistry and techniques – the embodiment of figure skating. Not only I, but the figure skating and Olympic communities also owe a debt to Yuzuru Hanyu for the impacts and changes he has made to the sport." This post has been tagged by yuzuangel as [NEWS].
  4. ... and after lunch browsing his favourite electronics shop (safe from fans) happily anticipating his next earphone acquisition.
  5. It was like a dam burst! She was talking so fast that she ran out of breath! (I think she had to wipe away some spittle.) The host had trouble trying to interject a question! And her fanart! She also loved Yuzu practicing in his sleek black outfit in Beijing. She is a typical Yuzu fan. Anytime anyone asks me about Yuzu, I keep running at the mouth!
  6. It is entirely up to Yuzu what he will do next and I will support him in whatever he decides upon, but my gut instinct tells me that he will want to continue skating competitively. Ghislain, who has known and worked with him as long as Brian, feels that Yuzu is capable of competing for another four years and even at the age of 35. This is from the coach who seems to know Yuzu the best, has earned Yuzu’s trust, has continued to maintain contact with Yuzu despite the pandemic and has always made Yuzu his number one priority, keeping his best interests at heart. If Yuzu decides to continue competing, he will not be alone in the field of superstar GOATs who have successfully continued their careers against the challenges of aging. A recent case in point is Tom Brady who is the winningest quarterback in NFL history and widely considered the GOAT. He recently announced his retirement at the age of 44. Last week, he watched from the stands in England as Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat trick in an English Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur. As the game finished and the 37-year-old Rinaldo completed his stunning master class on how elite athletes defy age, he met with Brady and asked him a simple question: "You're finished, right?" But Brady's competitive embers had been rekindled. The next day, he announced his come back to football for a 23rd season just 40 days after his "retirement." Citing "unfinished business," Brady tweeted, "my place is still on the field and not in the stands." This is from the nbcnews.com/think/opinion entitled "Tom Brady refuses to retire. How aging athletes stay superstars." In addition to Tom Brady and Cristiano Rinaldo this article also refers to Lebron James, Serena Williams and Roger Federer. https://www.nbcnews.com/think/opinion/how-tom-brady-lebron-james-serena-williams-more-older-athletes-ncna1292347 Cristiano Rinaldo and Lebron James are both 37 years old and Roger Federer and Serena Williams are both 40 years of age. Although you cannot compare sports and Yuzu has had repeated injuries particularly to his right ankle, he is only 27 years of age and is, according to him and obvious to his fans, stronger and better than he has ever been and is continuing to improve. PS: You have to feel for the poor person who "won" Tom Brady's "final" touchdown football in an auction for over $518,000 only to have it become one of many touchdown footballs thrown by Tom Brady when he announced his un-retirement.
  7. JW is such a two-faced, shameless, self-absorbed [admin edit: no name-calling] with no idea of honour but with an unlimited amount of nerve and BS.
  8. I know that the video “Yuzuru Hanyu practicing to Muse” has been posted and referred to numerous times, but since I had not watched it for a long time, I decided to today. It never gets old. It is so mesmerizing, calming and beautiful. Yuzu's practices are worth more than the price of admission. I am sure that people will not object if I post it here and there may even be some new fans who have never seen it before.
  9. Comparing Ghislain Briand and Rafael Arutyunyan is like comparing the 1984 film “Karate Kid” characters Mr. Miyagi and John Kreese (Cobra Kai). Rafael Arutyunyan: "I'll be honest it’s not part of my plans to have Nathan Chen fight someone on an equal footing at the Olympics. That is why we are using all opportunities and loopholes to make the most of progress and to go far ahead." "Rules are there to violate.” Ghislain Briand: "I have my own principles that cannot be compromised when it comes to guidance on jumps, that is, skaters must not cheap jump. Take off, spin in the air, land on ice, none of these elements can be compromised." John Kreese: "We do not train to be merciful here. Mercy is for the weak. Here, on the street, in competition, a man confronts you, he is the enemy. An enemy deserves no mercy." (To student Johnny Lawrence in final flight with Daniel Larusso): "Sweep the leg. You have a problem with that?" Johnny Lawrence: "No, sensei." John Kreese: "No mercy." Mr. Miyagi: "You trust the quality of what you know, not quantity." "No such thing as bad student, only bad teacher. Teacher say, student do."
  10. “The Best Figure Skater in the World” WATCH: Legend Yuzuru Hanyu Once Gave Young Kids a Special Figure Skating Lesson https://www.essentiallysports.com/us-sports-news-figure-skating-watch-legend-yuzuru-hanyu-once-gave-young-kids-a-special-figure-skating-lesson/ Published 03/10/2022 ESSENTIALLY SPORTS the fan's perspective As for now, Yuzuru is recovering from his ankle injury and taking a much-needed rest. And while we miss out on his heroics, we more than make up for it in this throwback Thursday episode. A coach in the making In what is the perfect blast from the past, the 27-year-old Japanese sensation can be seen adorably teaching little figure skaters the key aspects of the sport. Dating back to 2017, the video shows Hanyu giving instructions to the kids, while the kids are looking at the Olympic champion in sheer admiration. It appears the figure skating legend has all the qualities to be an excellent coach, and that comes as no surprise, given that he is the best figure skater in the world. Post-retirement, he can surely consider coaching as a professional career.
  11. This is from the same Figure Skating Life magazine article. It is not a message from Ghislain to Yuzu. It is simply his honest assessment, opinion and feelings about Yuzu.
  12. Let me add my short and blunt two cents to the thorough and diplomatic explanation provided by @SuzyQ. Yuzu was asked what kind of animal he would be and he said that he would be a cat. The translation is wrong. Specifically, where the English subtitle says, “I make so many people work for me,” Yuzu actually said, “I do as I please.” Just like a cat. Edit: There is nothing sassy about this interview. If anything, Yuzu is making fun of himself.
  13. Has this been shared already? The article has some factual errors, but is very complementary and supportive of Yuzu. Nathan Chen is nowhere to be found in this article. https://www.telegraphindia.com/sports/yuzuru-hanyu-creates-fire-on-ice-the-skater-may-not-have-won-gold-at-beijing-2022-but-he-continues-to-rule-the-hearts-of-his-fans/cid/1854753 The Telegraph Online (India) telegraphindia.com Yuzuru Hanyu creates fire on ice. The skater may not have won gold at Beijing 2022 but he continues to rule the hearts of his fans A few of the comments: "Considered as the 'most complete figure skater' of all-time, Hanyu is well-known for his musicality, elegant artistry, technique and even his gorgeous costumes." "The gravity-defying quadruple Axel is notoriously hard to land. However, many still remember his quad loop, the first ever that was landed in competition, at the 2016 CS Autumn Classic International. Hanyu went into his third Olympics perhaps with an aim to defend his title, but also a personal goal to land the quadruple Axel, one that he says he will continue to pursue." "Yuzuru Hanyu may not have won gold at Beijing 2022, but he has already been crowned the greatest figure skater of all time and continues to be hailed so, by fellow skaters as well. He continues to be the first male single skater in 66 years to win the Olympic champion title consecutively." "Curious about the magic that Hanyu is known to create on ice? We take a look at some of the most memorable performances by the figure skater." The writer proceeds to review: Seimei at PyeongChang Olympics 2018 Parisienne Walkways at Sochi Olympics 2014 Origin at Skate Canada 2019 Hope and Legacy at World Championships 2017 Heaven and Earth at Japan Figure Skating Championships 2020 This post has been tagged by yuzuangel as [NEWS].
  14. We were at 2018 ACI for these costume reveals as well as the following year when Yuzu revealed purple Origin. Particularly for the newer satellites, I am posting two more videos of the 2018 ACI black Origin costume reveal and two of the 2019 ACI purple Origin costume reveal. The videos do not do justice to the experience of actually being there. 2018 ACI – Note the quad toe-triple Axel combination. 2019 ACI
  15. I was simply providing a translation of what Yuzu actually said in the video clip attached to the comments of the original poster. Nothing more, nothing less. I assume that the original poster was referring to this video clip when he or she said: What kind of impression do you have of your mom? Yuzu's ANSWER – – “The sweetest child for the gentlest, and yet the strongest mom." Yuzu does not say anything remotely close to this in the video clip. Furthermore, it would not make sense for him to describe himself as "the sweetest child." That is why I felt compelled to provide a proper translation of what Yuzu actually said because his words are much more meaningful and heartfelt than what the original poster stated. The replies that followed that Tweet and video are also consistent with my translation since they use words such as "You came out of me" and "I brought you into this world" regarding their own mothers. Yuzu may think of his mother as the gentlest yet strongest mom and may have even expressed that sentiment at some other time, but he does not do so here. I did not mention this in my original post, but the last thing that the interviewer says in response to Yuzu saying that his mother's expression of love affects him deeply is "It gets you right here." Touching his chest (heart).
  16. I'm afraid that this is a mistranslation. He did not say, "the sweetest child for the gentlest, and yet strongest mom." In response to being asked about his relationship with his mother, Yuzu started by saying that being "oya-ko" (parent and child), of course they often fight and of course at other times he receives encouragement from her; but, most importantly, his mother, more than anyone else, worries about him the most because as she always says, he is a part of her body. This is something she always says to him. (This is where the interviewer gasped and repeated, "She says that you are a part of her body.") Yuzu continued, "Yes, because I came from her stomach... This always affects me deeply." This is how close Yuzu and his mother are and how much they feel and care for each other.
  17. Psst… I don’t think he was joking… I think it was a Freudian slip.
  18. I believe that Yuzu will be able to compete for another four seasons and will still be competitive at age 35 if that is what he really wants to do as long as he takes care of his right ankle. At present, he is the best that he has ever been. He is stronger, has more stamina, has better technique, has better skating skills and musicality than he has had before and these are all improving. Skating is his life and he has so much more that he wants to learn and to show the world. Yuzu did not podium at the Beijing Olympics because of pre-existing injury, bad luck, another intervening fall during practice aggravating an already bad ankle injury, and biased judging. If he had not popped the quad Sal in the short, even with bad judging, he would have scored 109 – 112 points. Posting a score in this range would have put tremendous pressure on Nathan, Yuma and Shoma which would negatively impact on their performances. If Yuzu had been in first or second place after the short, he may not have pushed himself so much practicing the quad Axel between the short and the free and avoided further injury to his ankle. Skating the free without the aggravating practice injury, his performance would have been better resulting in a much higher total score. I know that this is a series of "but ifs," however, the point I am getting at is that even with a serious right ankle injury and the judging panel prejudiced against him, he was a definite contender for another gold medal. As Yuzu said, if he really wanted to go for the third gold medal, he could have changed his layout to replace the quad Axel with easier jumps with only slightly lower base values that would have garnered him higher grades of execution. We know that Yuzu is disappointed and contemplating his future right now, but I am confident that he will find his way through and that his love of skating will overcome his doubts. The ISU and JSF will continue to try to diminish him, but their efforts will be in vain because his skating will be his legacy and his millions of fans will be the grateful beneficiaries.
  19. This is a short low-resolution video showing the sadness on Yuzu’s face when he won his first Japanese national championships. Instead of joy, he suffered sadness.
  20. 2013 World Championships in London, Ontario As Tracy Wilson says in the following video, Yuzu got the flu after the Four Continents Championships and then suffered a knee injury that kept him off the ice for another week. He only had three days of limited practice before competing at the 2013 world championships. To put things into perspective, he had finished second at the previous Grand Prix Final in Sochi behind his teammate Daisuke Takahashi and ahead, for the first time, of Patrick Chan. Although he was only 18 years old, Yuzu was the Japanese champion and felt a heavy responsibility to earn Japan three spots for the men's single skating competition at the upcoming Olympics. In order for Japan to qualify for three spots, the top two Japanese skaters had to have a combined placement total of 10 or less. Daisuke Takahashi finished in fifth place and Takahito Mura finished in ninth place so that their combined total was 14. The combined total of 14 would have only given Japan one spot for the men's competition at the Olympics. Yuzu fell on his opening quad toe and failed to complete his triple Lutz-triple toe loop combination and found himself in ninth place at the end of the short program. In order to get three spots for Japan at the Olympics, it was imperative that Yuzu finish in fourth place. It still brings tears to the eyes watching Yuzu putting heart and soul into the free skate, 'Notre Dame de Paris', and earning the third highest score in the long program to pull himself up from ninth place to fourth place overall, securing Japan three spots in the Olympics.
  21. And the JSF is trying to replace this with whom?
  22. I do not have any social media accounts and follow Yuzu only here, so I was unaware of anything that Ted Barton has said about Yuzu which could be taken negatively. If that’s the case, it is very disappointing because he had always impressed me as somebody who appreciated Yuzu as the total package, a complete skater who personified everything that figure skating is and should be, as evidenced by his comments in the videos that I posted.
