It's so amusing. I mean: a) If Yuzu doesn't go, it's definitely a win. b) If Yuzu goes, but doesn't win, it's still a win, because his appearance is a win by default. c) If Yuzu goes and wins, he will go down in history as the messiah of figure skating who even managed to beat fate.

If Yuzu manages to land that quad Axel and get that Olympic triple in Beijing, he will put every shonen anime hero to shame. Fun fact

EDIT: Oh dear... They really want him to go. They REALLY REALLY REALLY want him to go... Ten to chi to medals, Ten to chi to color schemes and boards, Ten to chi to motto... How can Ten to chi to not be the winning free skate, when literally everything is Ten to chi to. [NEWS]

Ah yes. The day Yuzuru Hanyu has invented the serpentine levitation sequence LV10 deluxe. A practice run-through for the ages.

I wish I had the optimism that Sano san has: [NEWS]

YES SIR!!! Sportschau LMEY has just reached the milestone of 2.5 Mio views!!! Footnote: It's Yuzu's 10th performance video with +2.5 M views on YouTube now (plus the deleted ones, which I did not count here). Congrats to that great feat

Yep. I bet 20€ on a new cut of Ballade No. 1. My mom bet 20€ on Yuzu digivolving to Mega-Yuzu this season and skating to a 2:50 cut of this piano-version of "Butterfly" And my dad bet 20€ that it's any piano piece except these two

Honestly? I wouldn't be heartbroken at all. I would be very happy for him, having achieved his last big dream in competition. And I would be super excited about the next step in his career, because I feel that the best Yuzu is yet to come, when the competition madness has finally come to an end. Can't wait to see show-Yuzu in full bloom or scientist-Yuzu dive into a new research field or whatever he plans to do in the future

Update: Page is moved to the article mainspace now and accessible for all readers! The lead section still needs to be polished, but overall the page has a much better and more logical structure now than before. It's no longer a bare fragment of the bios page, but stands on its own with many new infos that will be valuable for the new season. It was very important for us to include his quote from Stockholm, where he made his main goal clear for the 21/22 season. His words have been butchered and twisted by too many journalists, broadcasters and news agencies. It's long overdue to put it on Wiki plain-blank without flourish. Also, FINALLY a good article about Yuzu in English language again. Well-researched, detailed, factual and not belittling him. It's sad that this is not a given nowadays, but we have to take what we get. So let's appreciate the work. Maybe more journalists will follow. https://www.scmp.com/sport/other-sport/article/3152305/yuzuru-hanyu-biography-family-two-time-olympic-champion-winnie [NEWS]

A very kind soul translated this interview with Keiichi Yano, which was released in the February 2021 edition of the Number magazine. Keiichi Yano is the music editor, who cut the tracks of Seimei and Ten to chi to amongst others. This interview is focussing on the development of TenChi and Yuzu's special requests to Yano regarding arrangement, use of instruments and other musical aspects: [NEWS]

I want to thank heaven and earth for this interview. It's perfect timing, because there are many important quotes included that we need to complete the Wiki section about TenChi, so that the draft can finally be moved to the mainspace. It's been quite a delay with the re-structuring and expansion of the Olympic seasons article... There was a lot of discussion whether it's appropriate to talk about "Olympic season" or "Olympic programs" in Yuzu's case at all, since he's not confirmed his participation yet, but eventually we agreed that an Olympic season is an Olympic season, with or without the Olympics, so we can't do really wrong if we include TenChi (and the new SP as soon as it's announced). There is so much to write about TenChi as a program, it really deserves an own section like Seimei and the other Olympic programs. Hopefully we get the page done until GP start

Okay fellow fanyus. It's time to pull my little crystal ball for alternative future scenarios. What if this absolutely sweet stuff is actually going to happen:

Quick news: Pyeongchang Ballade No. 1 has just reached 3.7 M views! Congrats Since we're in another drought until November, let's take the opportunity to bring these videos to the next level: Stockholm LMEY is less than 50K away from 2.5 Million. Sochi PW needs less than 200K to reach the magical mark of 10 Million. And c'mon fanyus, we need less than 2K views to bring GPF PW to 1 Million! Last but not least: this Chinese broadcast version of Worlds H&L pretty close to 1M too with currently 940K views:

Yuzuru Hanyu being really and truly satisfied with his performance means: K.O. win Stop the competition Be grateful every single day for having witnessed that miracle with your own eyeballs.

This is what I was thinking, too. "Something very good" can mean pretty much everything, and Yuzu has won the SP after all. So it's a correct prediction if you want to. I'm not worried about this Olympic season really. At the end of the day we are always the winners, because watching Yuzu skate is a win by default, no matter what the scoreboard and result table looks like. Every Yuzu performance is a jackpot for us.
-
I asked her, but since Stockholm she's somewhat paralyzed and doesn't dare to make any predictions anymore. She still feels that her last one cursed Yuzu's freeskate, so from now on she just wants to pray in silence for his success and wellbeing. It's sad, but I understand her very well.

It's hard to say, but I made the experience that - at first glance - the costumes of Notte Stellata and Haru yo koi are often perceived as weird or grotesque by many people from western countries with conservative education, and it's difficult for them to disconnect from that image when watching him skate. Thankfully, in case of our friends yesterday it didn't matter, but one of our neighbors was irrevertably shocked by the HYK costume - to an extent that he wasn't able to enjoy Yuzu's skating. That made me very sad and a bit desperate, too. So, when I introduce Yuzu to people who don't know him yet, I ask myself which type of costume and music might resonate with them the most, and that is the performance I show them first. In case of our family members and friends I mostly pick Ballade or LMEY for that reason. My aunt and uncle even called us on the phone extra from Hungary right after the men's short in Stockholm to tell us how much they loved Yuzu's energetic rock concert and "that one jump right on the bang of the music"! But as we can see, our expectations have their limits. With our friends yesterday I was sure that they would appreciate Ballade the most, but it turned out that they liked TenChi much more, which was a very welcome and positive surprise. However, when the first step is done and the excitement for his skating is triggered, you can go on showing pretty much everything you like and it's perceived positively in 99% of the cases, no matter what potential prejudices there might have been lingering previously. That's the experience I made.

I share this thread here, too, because it made me really happy and emotional yesterday: Also greetings from my family to the Planet

Yeah, I tried to include most programs and Axel variations, but sadly my video archive is a bit limited at the moment, so I was forced to leave out some nice ones like CoC Etude or GPF R&J 1.0, and GPF LGC fell victim to the strict copyright rules. But I'm very happy that you like it
-
Finally!! I found a way to upload a combined version of my two triple Axel compilations on YouTube without any copyright issues!! It was really tricky, because the max length of copyright-free audio track is 15 seconds, even if you repeat the same 5 seconds three times. So I had to reduce the number of LGC and PW Axels to 2, Masquerade to 1. My heart is bleeding, but that's how it is. At least I could finally put up my favorite solo triple Axels on my channel!! Yeey!!

With this video experiment I tried to test two things: 1. Do people feel the mismatch between Yuzu's skating and the overlay music? 2. If yes, do they have the courage to speak it out loud? I have seen many music overlays with Yuzu's programs on YouTube and other platforms already (some of them are done pretty well) and I read many feedbacks how perfectly that fits his skating or how great it would be if Yuzu skated to that piece in the future. Even if we try to be polite to the creator of the video edit, we also have to cherish Yuzu's incredible interpretation skills and note where the limits of the overlay edit are. Yes, Yuzu might skate to that piece some time in the future, but we can be sure that his choreography would be entirely different to our edit and also loads better than everything what we can chop together from past performances. @YuzuSkating_IsTheTruth I must confess that the whole edit took me 10 minutes this time Usually I need about an hour for such clips like the 3A or Ina Bauer collection, but this one was a rather sloppy edit. On purpose.

Yes, exactly. It's like Yuzu said himself: Ballade No. 1 is like good wine and cheese that needs time to age. In the pamphlet of Fantasy on Ice 2017 he mentioned that, back in 2014, Jeff and him had a clear vision of the program in mind already, but he lacked the maturity and technical skills to realize their vision at that time. And he took the time. He didn't throw away the program that had so much potential, but took all the effort to get the absolute maximum out of it and perform not one but a whole series of performances that will be remembered and rewatched for decades. Imagine if he had dropped Ballade after the 14/15 season without a clean performance. What a waste of potential and big loss for the world that would have been... and how grateful we must be that he brought LGC back for SOI this year! Sure, that program deserves a larger rink, but it's a start. In Yuzu's case we must not talk about "recycling" but rather "remastering" of the program, because they get better with every year. I have a serious suggestion for two new PCS caps: 1. If a skater uses the exact same choreography for two entirely different music pieces, the interpretation score must not be higher than 5.00 by default. 2. If one or two sections of the programs have identical choreo (like the same step sequence), the IN score must not be higher than 7.50. #SorryNotSorry OT:
-
This is exactly what I hoped to hear Remember my post about the PCS scoring of Yuzu's programs? The last months I spent a lot of time on analyzing Yuzu's different programs, focusing on the compostion and especially the interpretation of the music which includes: 1. Music genre and vibe 2. Tempo 3. Timing and rhythm 4. Volume 5. Range and tone sequences 6. Keys and tonality 7. Chords and harmonies 8. Timbre and set of instruments 9. Use of vocals (optional) 10. Story or message behind the piece (optional) In dancing, figure skating and any other sport that uses music, the aim must be to translate the music piece 1:1 into body movements in a way that with muted sound you as a viewer are still able to reconstruct the original piece from the movements. Just like you are able to reconstruct the sound of the piece from the symbols on the music sheet. That means especially: If the original piece gets exchanged by another one - no matter how thoughtful the choice is - there must be a certain degree of mismatch that feels awkward while watching. If not, the interpretation of the original music by the performer was not precise and characteristic enough. In case of this edit I realized that the skating matches the overlay piece in most parts regarding tempo and change of volume, in some cases also the on/off-beats and translation of high and low notes (not all). However, especially the vibe and character of the performance, including mimics, hand gestures and further body language, were not in tune with the overlay music. And I think, this is what makes Yuzu's skating so extra special. No matter how hard you try to exchange the music, he and the original piece are one, unseparably. You need to watch 5 seconds of his skating and you already hear the sound of the original music ringing in your ears. The most perfect interpretation ever was probably 4CC Chopin, because he fully met all bullets from 1 to 8, even the keys and tonality which is insanely difficult to realize in dancing. If you rewatch the skate, you will see that he translated - all tempo changes with precise accelerations - the length of each music note by matching it with the duration/length of the skating stroke - the dynamics in volume by changing the power and intensity of his strokes - the highs and lows by moving his body up and down in tune with the melody - every keystroke of the piano with an accentuated foot or hand movement. It's truly insane what he did there. Even a 10.00 in interpretation wouldn't do that performance justice. Should be 15.00 or 20.00.

I share it here too, because I'd like to collect as many impressions as possible. It can be absolutely anything that comes to your mind. Correct answers only.
