Why so cynical?
-
Zhenya seems to think there will be an ice show in Japan, or that's what she said on an Instagram post. I don't think there will be any ice shows in Japan this year, but she may be able to get rink time. She'll still have to quarantine for 14 days on her arrival...
-
I hope he is able to skate at his rink (alone, during off hours). He knows how to protect himself and his family is just as protective of him as we would all want them to be. As much as we all care so much about Yuzu and his health and happiness, his family cares more. Just as I care more about my son and his health and happiness than anyone else could.
-
I was informed by someone who would know that Yuzu and his mother returned To Japan shortly after TCC announced that they would be closed. At the time, and possibly still, there have been ice rinks open in Japan. And even if they do close, he wouldn't be able to skate in Toronto and, I'm sure, would prefer to be with all his family at home. There hasn't been any announcement about his going home nor any press sightings. Let's hope it stays that way so he can be safe and comfortable. The official word is that there is no official word.

He is in Japan.

There are no wheels on my buckets - and they'd probably not support me. I think we'd need official commercial buckets.
-
Just a baby.
-
We could race, on wheeled buckets.

So, I guess I can weigh in on my Yuzu-like tendencies. I am also allergic to alcohol. Also, my hands get cold, so I'd always be wearing gloves on the ice. My hair tends to be playful - especially if I'm doing anything physical. And wearing black, comfortable work out gear, and sneakers, is definitely my preferred way to dress. I can think of a thousand Yuzu-like behaviors and attitudes I would like to have, but he does inspire me to try.
-
So, it's the rolling around on a bucket with wheels that you expect to do?
-
I feel privileged just to have seen him skate live....

I wear disposable gloves when I shop and the wipe down everything with a clorox wipe as I remove them from the bags. You can even clorox wipe a zucchini and then wash it after... The trick for me is to change out the gloves before removing stuff from the bags. That way, you're starting with clean. I was just lucky to have two boxes of gloves from Costco before the apocalypse so I have no qualms going through multiple pairs. This guy has some good advice. But I still like the addition of disposable gloves.

Let's all try to stay hopeful that this virus will be more under control a couple of months from now. And due to it's threat level, every bioscientist in the world is looking for a vaccine and effective treatment. That won't happen this week but months from now, it is possible for a treatment to be found. We mustn't give up.

It's a question of where a bodies center of gravity is. Taller skaters just have to re-adjust EVERYTHING when they grow to re-find that center. There are plenty of tall male skaters - Roman, for instance. And Conrad. And Jun - who did have a tricky time after his last big growth spurt. Yuzuru is taller that the average Japanese man.
-
There is no question that his overall slimness benefits him. The straight up and down no curve thing is why the little Russian girls can do some of the jumps they do and why it's such an adjustment for them when they mature and have curves. And he didn't have to go through those really wild growth spurts like Jun did. Or Roman. I believe that Yuzu is taller than the average Japanese man, but there are so many differences from one end of the country to the other...
-
I agree - Yuzu still looks quite a bit like he did when he was 18 or 19. A bit more angular as he's matured. But Nam almost looks like a different guy.
-
I have a VPN - I think I'm presently in Germany. But I missed the live stuff because I was OUTSIDE! No where near an actual human being, but the dog enjoyed it.
-
I'm curious, too, but it's unsubstantiated s it's tough to know what's what. You'd think the ISU would still release a list of the "winners".
-
Gotta love baby Nam in this, too.
-
What? What organizer would hint such a ridiculous vote count? How could Yuzu, with the number of fans he has internationally, NOT be the winner of that. (He's also the GOAT, so there's that...)
-
Well, that's so unfair! NBC had actually blocked off about 20 hours or more for figure skating starting on Thursday through tomorrow and now they are showing something called "Monster Jam". I'm not even going to look at what that is. They could've shown the Olympics. They're even the network that has rights to the Olympics. But, nooooooo. No skating for me.

Thank you for your translation -

I can see it because I need it more than any one. Aren't you in the states? It shouldn't be geoblocked from you on YouTube.... It's not like there's any reason at all, while there will be no competitions for 6 months, for anything to be geoblocked in the states (damn NBC Gold....)

Just what I needed today. Sometimes, it is easy to forget just what an amazing skater Brian was. One of the best. And he is the perfect coach for Yuzu (especially in conjunction with Tracy and Ghislain).
