Mushroom (1/67)

  1. That 3A is quite something for his age.
  2. He popped 4lo to 3lo too but in this case it was a wise decision because if he fell on it and URed : 4.40, even worse a downgrade: 3.00. Bad landing on the UR 4lo in the SP: 6.34, Seimei 3lo w/ positive GOE: 5.70 (Only 0.64 pt. difference) This is one of those cases where him popping is actually a good thing imho. Studying protocols is definitely one of Yuzu's strengths. That 2T though, that was very costly he can't afford missing combos but I'm sure he knows that better than most of us.
  3. The circumstances that allowed Yuzuru to get 330 with three quads is because he skated clean, TWICE back to back. Recreating that to me is what the real challenge is. 350 is no joke, but its possibility extends beyond just skating clean especially now that the other men are getting higher GOEs BUT also going for difficult layouts that aren't easy. That said, I don't think it's entirely impossible. But this is the sort of thing that on paper sounds achievable but is a completely different matter. But just for fun: SP: 115 (TES:66 PCs:49) FS: 236 (TES: 138 PCs:98) TSS: 351
  4. I don't think it's an Eteri thing, I'm pretty sure Yuzuru, Javi and probably other TCC skaters are trained to be able to tack on a 3T to everything. Shoma definitely took notes from Medvedeva though.
  5. Right now the man closest to breaking Yuzuru's SP WR is Javier who got 109+ at Worlds. This isn't because he has the highest BV but because he is capable of closing the gap with PCs and GOE. I have no doubt that Patrick is capable to scoring 110+ in the SP if he skates his new layout clean. He scored 102+ with just one quad and has been the only other man aside from Yuzuru who has broken the 100 barrier with such a layout. In the SP the smallest points matter, so even if they land all the jumps but miss a couple of levels it's still anybody's game. Yuzuru's SP layout at ACI wasn't his final one. The 4S is a placeholder for the 4lo meaning this isn't the maximum of what he's capable of. He's not Evgenia who has pretty much maxed out her SP's scoring potential (although ladies field has pretty much plateaued unless they introduce 3A+quads) Nathan, Shoma and Boyang have to bridge the gap between them and Yuzuru through BV and start getting GOEs and PCs as high as he does if they want to break the WR. This means they have to be as close to perfection as possible. It's certainly not impossible just very very difficult to do if they skate in the same competition as a clean Yuzuru Hanyu.
  6. What really impresses me about Yuzuru isn't necessarily his scores or his medals (although those are great too) but his tenacity as a competitor. He has a penchant for studying the strengths of his rivals and finding ways to 'adapt' those to his own style of skating. Yuzuru has strong rivals going into the Olympic season which means he has a lot of strong competitors he can learn from. I look forward to that.
  7. This was their strategy in the season leading to Sochi and we all know how that went.
  8. Keep aiming for the highest average. He doesn't have to be clean all the time, that's what Brian tried to tell him at JP Nats '15-16 (and it retrospect the latter half of 15-16 is a sad lesson for him). Back then SEIMEI @ GPF was the benchmark for 'perfection' but now he has surpassed that in just one season. There's no need for him to keep creating pressure for himself when everyone else seems bent on doing it for him.
  9. Oh the SP is definitely likely to be clean than not, his history of repeating programs has given him some insane consistency looking as how that's gone for him. SEIMEI looks like it's going to be incredibly complex with all sorts of new entries and what not but I'm already looking forward to how it will look.
  10. Lol I don't think he will be clean either. For me ACI is just gonna be an exciting event to see the first forms of his (and Javi's) programs and costumes. I just want them to enjoy themselves to be honest.
  11. I'd love jump analysis like that for the men. It'd be really interesting to see where Yuzuru's jumps fall in with the rest, he and Javi have the most consistent quality in their jumping passes among the men imo. Interesting that Wakaba doesn't have the highest jumps or fastest rotation but she has them both which is pretty rare and speaks a lot about the quality of her jumps. Wish we had Kaori on there too, her jumps are huge... Also I suspect that the lack of height in jumps might have something to do with consistency in some cases too (eg. Miyahara).
