  1. My take of what Yuzuru said is similar to Yude's: In planning his programs, he's going to continue to be true to himself and his way of skating while at the same time being mindful of the manner in which judges are scoring the performances.
  2. Sorry, I just saw the Jack Gallagher article in the Japan Times. I'm behind the conversation.
  3. Have you guys seen this? https://www.japantimes.co.jp/sports/2019/04/02/figure-skating/rafael-arutunian-says-never-felt-yuzuru-hanyu-unbeatable/#.XKNPG5hKjaQ
  4. Yes, Yuzuru is totally comfortable with who he is and all of his many different selves and confident enough that he does not worry about labels.
  5. Aww, such sacrilege after poor mama Hanyu worked so hard to make it! (I'm not fond of that costume either.)
  6. Yuzu's jumps are ethereal. Ethereal Extremely delicate and light in a way that seems too perfect for this world. Merriam-Webster Dictionary: Of or relating to the regions beyond the earth. CELESTIAL, HEAVENLY. UNWORLDLY, SPIRITUAL. Marked by unusual delicacy or refinement. Suggesting the heavens or heaven. Cambridge Dictionary: Light and delicate, especially in an unnatural way. Extremely light and delicate, as if not of this world.
  7. In Japan they say that nails that stick out get hit with a hammer. With Yuzu's out of this world talent, megastar charisma and long neck, he REALLY STICKS OUT.
  8. The sleeves of the shirt and suit jacket appear to be the right length with the right amount of shirt cuff showing. The length of the suit jacket is short compared to traditional suit jackets, but shorter suit jackets are now the style, especially for younger people. Sometimes tailors will recommend a shorter jacket to make the legs look longer.
  9. Charcoal suit with a black/charcoal/grey/silver rep tie on a crisp white shirt. Looking very lawyerly Mr. Hanyu!
  10. Yuzu is the Miyamoto Musashi of figure skating. Always seeking perfection, new challenges and the toughest opponents. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miyamoto_Musashi Quotes of Miyamoto Musashi https://www.goodreads.com/work/quotes/1318780-go-rin-no-sho
  11. The only thing I wish for Yuzu now is that he skate "Origin" clean in a manner that he will be proud of and in the way he envisioned it to be in his image training. The only thing he can control is the way he performs this program. The judges and the performances of the other skaters are out of his hands. Please God let Yuzu exceed his free program achievement at the 2017 Helsinki Worlds by skating a flawless "Origin" at the 2019 Saitama Worlds. Let him have no regrets.
  12. Yuzu went to Canada in May, 2012 and had set records in the SP (PW) with Brian as his coach at 2012 Skate America and 2012 NHK and come in second at the 2012 GPF in Sochi (behind Daisuke Takahashi and ahead of Patrick Chan). He did poorly at 2013 Worlds in London, Ontario, Canada, because he missed practice time due to having the flu and he had injured his knee just prior to the competition. Edit: Doing "poorly" for Yuzu was coming in 4th. He was 9th after the SP and fought back in the FS where he was 3rd. Thanks primarily to his efforts, Team Japan was able to retain 3 positions in the single men's category for the 2014 Olympics and World Championships.
  13. Hey Sombreuil, that's great! Your family is going to love listening to "that Japanese bloke's" music when they're trying to watch their beloved rugby/football!
  14. This is my prayer for Yuzuru Hanyu: DEAR GOD please protect Yuzuru Hanyu (hereinafter referred to as “Yuzu”), the Japanese double Olympic champion, from all manner of injuries, both on and off the ice and that he will be able to skate injury-free for as many seasons as he wishes. AND without limiting the generality of the foregoing, please protect Yuzu from: 1. Bad people, negligent people and violent mentally ill people; 2. Bad animals, negligent animals and violent mentally ill animals; 3. Aliens and alien abductions; 4. Accidents of any kind; 5. Intentional assaults; 6. Kidnappings, carjackings and hijackings; 7. His own negligence including badly landed jumps and other skating errors; 8. Inevitable accidents; 9. Acts of God. AND please let Yuzu be completely healed in all respects when he competes at the upcoming World Figure Skating Championships in Saitama, Japan and please let Yuzu skate two beautifully clean programs (short and free) in this competition and win the world championship for the third time in a decisive manner. AND in this regard, and with respect to all future competitions, please protect Yuzu from bad and/or incompetent judges. ALL OF WHICH IS RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED. AMEN If I’ve missed anything, please feel free to add.
  15. Another example of this is Yuzu's FS performance at the 2013 Trophee Eric Bompard. He had to finish first or second at this GP event in order to qualify for the Grand Prix Final. Since the Japanese men's field was so deep, qualifying for the Grand Prix Final was crucial in whether or not he would be chosen for the Japanese Olympic team. Many a skater would have been totally devastated by the freak accident that nullified his initial quad Salchow, followed by the fall on his quad toeloop. Both of his two quads in the free skate were blown. What followed after that was a demonstration of immaculate skating which allowed him to finish second and qualify for the Grand Prix Final in Japan where he beat Patrick Chan. If he had failed at the 2013 TEB, he would not have made the 2013 GPF and may not have made the Japanese Olympic team. Even if he had, he would not have had the #1 world ranking and may not have had the confidence to win his first Olympic gold medal. History may have gone in a totally different direction if he had not pulled himself together so well after the two disastrous quad attempts at the 2013 TEB.
  16. Post more regularly and more often! We need more fans like you! We all love Yuzu and miss him!
  17. When is the men's medal ceremony for the Rostelecom Cup?
  18. The lady that was sitting next to him after the short program at Sochi is Kobayashi-san – I can't recall her first name. She is often the spokesperson in Japan for JSF matters. I don't think that the other lady is Yuzuru's mother. Yuzuru's mother takes extreme measures to avoid the camera. She tends to walk behind Yuzuru even when arriving at the venue or the airport so that you see her coming out of the elevator in the background. If she is walking down a hallway quite a few steps behind Yuzuru and she notices a camera pointing in their direction, she will quickly duck out of the way. The only time I saw her directly on camera with Yuzuru was when she was making the costume designed by Johnny Weir when Yuzu was 15 and debuting as a senior. Johnny Weir visited them to look at the costume. Yuzuru's paternal grandmother said the he gets his height and long legs and arms from his mother and I can see that. She is quite tall. I think that is a good thing that Yuzuru took after his mother. I've only seen the back of Yuzuru's father's head when he's driving. I think the only pictures we have of his sister Saya are when she was a child. The whole family is very private and modest. Edit: The lady sitting next to Yuzuru after the short program at Sochi is Yoshiko Kobayashi. She is a director of the JSF.
  19. I noticed that too! Most other celebrities or athletes doing such a commercial would have immediately put down the cup when they were told that the commercial shoot was finished. Not our boy Yuzu! That would have been too rude. He wanted to convey to the sponsor as well as the audience that he really did enjoy the product that he was endorsing. (You have probably noticed that he does the same thing with Ghana chocolate bars. He keeps eating them. But, in that case, I think he really does like chocolate!)
  20. Yuzu has a baby face and a man's arms.
  21. And Yuzu is the young Michael Corleone character who is hiding out in Toronto under the protection of Don Brian and the TCC from all the media and fan madness in Japan. (Sorry for quoting myself. LOL. I just thought of this looking at the picture again.)
  22. Especially Ghislain Briand. He looks like Don Brian Orser's smiling, but always dangerous, caporegime.
  23. Roman Sadovsky was born on May 31, 1999 and is 19 years of age. Keegan Messing was born on January 23, 1992 and is, as you say, 26 years of age. Yuzuru was born on December 7, 1994 and is four and half years older than Roman and almost 3 years younger than Keegan. In a way, it might have been more of a thrill for Keegan because at his age, he probably thought that he was over the hill and would never have imagined sharing the podium with an Olympic champion and 2 double world champions.
