  1. He looks like a smiling homeless person, grateful that someone gave him a warm winter jacket.
  2. Yuzu is definitely not shy about being front and centre.
  3. Let’s not forget that a 20-year-old Yuzu did reprise “Hello, I Love You” at the 2015 Fantasy on Ice in Shizuoka, including tossing his sweat soaked T-shirt into the audience.
  4. It would be interesting to see what would happen if Yuzu ripped off his shirt and went bare chested at an ice show now...
  5. All Bollywood movies, regardless of genre, have laughing, singing, crying and dancing, don’t they?
  6. Welcome to the Planet, fellow cat lover! Yuzu has also said that if he was an animal, he would be a cat. In the video posted by @IceWings, they show where he said that the animal he likes best is the cat. When Yuzu is petting the kitten, the narrator pretends to be the kitten and says, “It was nice to be born a nekko!” (Nekko is the Japanese word for cat.) The narrator also says that when a nekko lets a person rub his or her exposed tummy, it’s a sign that the nekko really trusts that person.
  7. I got Javi’s “Satan Takes a Holiday” costume as well. It seems to be the most common result.
  8. When I read that article yesterday and saw this, I thought WTF are they talking about? It spoiled the rest of the article for me. And @Veveco is right, there is absolutely no ambiguity in the mistaken assertion. They screwed up.
  9. The perfect Chopin with imperfect scoring.
  10. Twin of the one we gifted to Yuzu. Correction: This is the one we gifted to Yuzu. We have his twin at home with a duplicate medal.
  11. Does this mean that I have to take back the goat plushy with the realistic staring eyes that I bought for you?
  12. I think you meant to say a Robertson or square screw. The Robertson screwdriver and screw were invented by a Canadian and is probably the best screwdriver/screw combination around because there is no risk of the square screw head being stripped. The Philips screwdriver and screw were invented by an American in Oregon.
  13. The rink at the Cricket Club is beautiful because it is unique. The reason for this is that it is a private club and the rink was specifically designed for training purposes and not for competitions or spectators. Two of the walls, which are adjoining, have mirrors. One side of the rink is open for the skaters and coaches. The fourth side of the rink consists of a series of large (almost floor-to-ceiling) plate glass windows which separate the rink from a lounge which is the only area provided for viewing the rink. Unlike other rinks where you are required to huddle wearing down-filled clothing when watching skaters, at the Cricket Club, you can watch in comfort, without a sweater or jacket, in a booth or at a table having lunch or a cup of tea. This lounge appears to be used primarily by the skaters themselves, people related to or associated with the skaters or club members as a place to have a meal and chat with one another, without a lot of interest in what’s going on in the rink.
  14. Hey @barbara, I used to play second trumpet in my junior high school band! Cats are very popular house pets in Japan.
  15. I did not become a fan of Yuzu until the Sochi Olympics and Saitama worlds in 2014, but as I have previously posted, I was in Germany in September, 2011 at the same time as Yuzu when he was competing at the Nebelhorn Trophy, albeit we were several hundred kilometers apart. I had absolutely no interest in figure skating at that time and, of course, would have had no idea who Yuzuru Hanyu was, but the fact that we were in the same country at the same time from opposite sides of the world may have been a harbinger that my life would eventually be inextricably bound with his.
  16. Welcome! Are you a new fan or just new to the planet?
  17. Happy 3rd Birthday Planet Hanyu! Thank you to the mods and admins who created and maintain the Planet! And a big shout out to Max Ambesi for providing such a great name for our fan forum!
  18. For new fans, that was 21-year-old Yuzu at the December 31, 2015 NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen (New Year’s Eve Red vs. White Singing Contest-Gala) where he was one of the judges. He also got on stage to be interviewed and he joined in the group singing of Hana Wa Saku. I believe that it was originally intended to have Yuzu as a judge at the previous Kouhaku since that was the year that he won the Olympic gold-medal at Sochi, but he was unable to because he was in hospital following urachal remnant surgery.
  19. That appreciation of beauty, brilliance, talent and excellence was expressed in these poetic and complementary comments following the FS at PyeongChang and 2019 Worlds. CCTV coverage of Yuzu’s FS at PyeongChang with English subs: https://streamable.com/l3j0y CCTV comments following Yuzu’s FS at 2019 Worlds with English subs: This video is a very complementary coverage by CCTV (with English subs) of Yuzu winning the Olympic gold at PyeongChang:
  20. @Veveco is right. All of his competitions are sold out and the majority of the audience are Yuzu fans. @FlyingCamel is also right in that Yuzu is extremely popular in China and he has a huge fan base there. What really irritates me is that commentators are always referring to all of the fans as being Japanese. If they are Asian, they automatically assume that they are Japanese. They seem to ignore non-Asian fans holding Japanese flags. I had to laugh when they showed a huge group of Yuzu fans outside the Gangneung Ice Arena wearing Winnie the Pooh gear and holding signs and banners with Asian characters and the commentator talking about all the obsessive Japanese fans that follow Yuzu. The reason I laughed is because they weren’t Japanese, they were Chinese fans holding signs with Chinese characters! In a Japanese news broadcast, they showed a group of Chinese fans who initially had some trouble getting in to the arena. They finally made it in and seemed to be tired out. The Japanese TV commentator noted that they were totally oblivious to a Chinese skater who was performing, but when Yuzu came on the ice, they all went berserk! The only time that I recall a commentator noting that not all of the fans cheering for Yuzu were Japanese was Simon Reed after the 2015 GPF short program when he said that there were so many Spanish faces holding Japanese flags.
  21. On the one hand, it seems like yesterday that I was watching the Sochi Victory Parade and yet, on the other hand, it seems like a zillion years ago when I consider how Yuzu has matured and what he has suffered and accomplished in the intervening six years.
  22. I am not a tax lawyer, but I am a lawyer, albeit a retired one, and in my opinion, Yuzuru Hanyu would not be required to pay any income tax in Canada. He is probably here on a multiple-entry visitor’s visa or a special visa for athletic training purposes. He does not work in Canada and does not generate any income in Canada. The only reason he is here is to train. The fact that a person is physically in Canada for an extended period of time as a visitor, training as an athlete or attending school, as examples, does not expose that person to tax liability for income earned outside of Canada. As a permanent resident of Japan, I am sure that Yuzu is diligently paying all of his income taxes in Japan. Now can we move on from this subject?
  23. I’m sure that Yuzu is paying significant tax in Japan for his income from commercial endorsements. Edit: Yuzu probably conferred with his father and had his own reasons for deciding to attend Waseda University, but the fact that Shizuka Arakawa had attended and graduated from Waseda may have been one consideration.
  24. I think this appeared in one of P&G’s Yuzu Days.
  25. That is the so-called “gap”, a phrase used by the Japanese to describe the sharp contrast between playful smiley-face Yuzu and killer game-face Yuzu, that fans find so irresistible.
