  1. In Japanese, he speaks using very masculine slangs and expressions in informal settings, sometimes with Tohoku dialect that makes it even more tough sounding (to a Tokyo-ite). That's why Nobu calls him "S", the domineering character, versus Nobu's omega (non-dominant/submissive) character. Nobu needs Yuzu to protect him from the rough and tumble of this world... I hope Nobu is doing OK following his spat with Hamada-sensei (another dominant character). Nobu is kind and gentle, unlike his famous predecessor (Oda Nobunaga) who had absolutely no qualms massacring thousands of men, women and children (and monks, to boot).
  2. Sendai TV's live interview of Shun Sato, his very first live TV appearance! This thread has the full segment. Shun said in this interview that from next season he will start to compete at the senior level.
  3. Love this post: alpha dominant Yuzu!
  4. Celebrating 100,000 posts on Yuzu topic!
  5. My German doctor was ahead of his times. These days, we have much better understanding of developmental biology and how the different parts of body are closely inter-related and this is changing how we examine the body (speaking as a biochemist/molecular biologist). Medical science is advancing but medical practice is lagging... To give another example: our pelvis is also closely linked to our jaws and imbalances in one will be reflected in similar imbalances in the other. The relatively new practice of Somatics draws upon this new knowledge. To bring it back to topic, Yuzu should be aware of these new developments in biomedical sciences as a student of Human Sciences at Waseda U. They have quite an advanced program on these subjects as well as progressive professors. It will be interesting to see what papers/articles Yuzu will write in the next stages of his life!
  6. Also, sometimes people with asthma have more elastic skin - because during embryonic development the skin cells and internal lining of the lungs emerge from closely related stem cells. When I had asthma as a child, a German doctor prescribed dry towel massage to strengthen and stimulate my outer skin - which, he said, will also strengthen the lining of my lungs. At age 60, I am still blessed with soft elastic skin, but live in constant fear of another asthmatic attack...
  7. TV Asahi describes the event as sharing the moment when Hanyu-senshu becomes one with the sound (literally - becomes clothed with the sound) 音を纏う Oto-wo-matou. Love the use of the term which is much more intense than just "wearing" the sound, which would be ”着る“kiru.纏う has a regal connotation, like putting on an imperial mantle. https://www.tv-asahi.co.jp/ch/recommend/musicwithwings/
  8. Cartoon for Music with Wings! The artist has a great sense of humour. Trans: Haru-chan "uzu-uzu" (wriggle wriggle) hey, hey, when is it Haru's turn?... oh now! "chiiiin" (tiiing) Seimei "Pyuoooo" on the Japanese flute Chopin pianist (with Pooh on his head playing the castanet "shaka-shaka") is playing Ballade #1 Origin: "Can't play so he's doing air-violin" Toshl: "Extremely beautiful voice" Conductor cat: "Noo...the meaning of conducting is..." Hope&Legacy (sitting in the audience): Non-harmonious sound... (holding Ghana hot chocolate with the rabbit on his head)
  9. Utashin getting more Japanese media coverage: Elleonline! https://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/hl?a=20200208-00010003-elleonline-ent&utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
  10. I managed to download Music with Wings, but the file is too large for the PH platform. Here is the google drive link - I hope it works! The concert was moving. The conductor and the pianist were asked to speak about their experiences watching Hanyu-senshu skate and their words were moving. Will translate later if the other usual translators on Twitter don't get around to it. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1D9HihCddbZ3XFjemIjC209GyTh6YU7eh/view?usp=sharing
  11. In the future, I hope Yuzu will develop his own program Continues with Wings into a truly artistic/cultural event, combining quality music with high level skating performance. This music concert is a glimpse into that future. Currently, most ice shows are such a mixed bag of low-brow stuff interspersed with occasional great performances, but not presented as a cohesive artistic program.
  12. I miss Origin from SCI Kelowna - it was intense and gorgeous, and the violinist at this concert captures it so well! And Seimei, of course, with live instruments is so special. This is a national treasure that we can proudly share globally.
  13. Oh, the tenor portion could be better: Notte S and Phantom vocal parts were ever so slightly off key and japanglish... sorry.
  14. Live version of White Legend is amazing - and you can see which Japanese instruments are being played, and the rhythm/intonation is Japanese while the melody is Russian/Tchaikovsky. I wish Yuzu would skate to it again, in gala or competition.
  15. ForJoy is very stable. I can download into my ForJoy file, but don't know how to share... will have to figure it out later. Meanwhile - Live Mission Impossible is intense and dramatic! So cool to see women at the drums and on trumpet!
  16. Oh wow, the concert is opening with a dramatic rock Vivaldi! Never mind that Yuzu has not skated to it (yet)! And the lady musicians are all wearing colorful gowns which makes the orchestra look like the Heian court, with the big wa-daiko (drum) at one end.
  17. I am watching on ForJoy TV, on channel 57 (CS Asahi #2). I tried iSakura, but I switched back to ForJoy because the quality of much better although it doesn't have Fuji channels. I use iSakura on short term basis if I wanted access to Fuji, but I generally don't like Fuji channels and don't miss it at all on ForJoy - except at ISU championships where they have the rights. Ok the Yuzu Music Concert starting now!
  18. Please do not post comments from haters on this site! There are plenty of other platforms where heated discussions take place, but PH was created precisely to avoid such inflamed and hateful emotional exchanges. Human psychology makes us vulnerable and easily influenced by intense emotional outpouring which, like addiction, enslaves us into desiring/lusting for more. This space is for detoxing from such influences; it is an ashram where we seek and find wisdom and peace of mind.
  19. Did they show i-scope on other non-Japanese TV channels? Fuji has been showing i-scope jump results for a of seasons already, but I was not aware that this was also being shown on the ISU channel. I have been watching on the Japanese channels and hadn't check that they were being shown elsewhere.
  20. Fuji TV mentioned that i-scope will be shown at the Worlds - apparently ISU had requested it. But I haven't seen further details, and it's unlikely that the judges will incorporate i-scope views in their reviews at this stage.
  21. Yes, Nobu is the regular commentator for TV Asahi, which has rights to the Grand Prix series. Fuji TV has the rights to Worlds and 4CC. Nobu provides minimal comments during the actual competition, but offers great insights before and afterwards. I wish TV Asahi had the rights to Worlds but alas, it seems Fuji has this one locked in for many years. At least, I am glad Fuji has invested in i-scope which will now be used by ISU at the Worlds for the first time. Not that it will make much difference in judging scores at this time, but I am hoping this will be the first steps toward incorporating better technology into the judging system - in the near future!
  22. Shun Sato took gold at the Bavarian Open. Congrats!! He missed the quad lutz and made other small errors here, but he has definitely worked hard at improving his performance, esp by emoting more with his face and hands during the choreo sequence. He is losing his junior-ish shyness and learning to be more intense, like with Yuzu's R&J1.
  23. Even the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Japan) is congratulating Yuzu on his Super Slam! He is officially our national hero!
  24. OMG!! Yes, of course, Taira-no-Atsumori wore the moegi colored armour! In Japanese we don't refer to it as "Parrot Green" - it's the green of early leaves of spring. Atsumori is a well-known legendary figure in Japanese history, famous for his most tragic and heart-wrenching death during the Genpei Wars (12th c). He was known as a very beautiful young man of the Taira clan, who was unfortunately caught up in the chaos following the defeat of Taira clan at Ichino-tani by that other famous Japanese hero, Minamoto-no-Yoshitsune. As the retreating Taira soldiers scrambled toward the beach in retreat, Kumagai, a seasoned sumurai of Minamoto clan caught up with one lagging soldier. When Kumagai struck off the helmet of this young man, he was struck by his beauty and hesitated to kill him. There are Noh plays that elaborate the emotional exchanges that took place in that combat - not much of a battle because the young man was so inexperienced, but he faced his death bravely. In the end, Atsumori is killed and Kumagai becomes so grief-stricken and remorseful that he ends up taking the vows and becoming a Buddhist monk. I still tear up remembering the dramatic rendition of this encounter... the young man, like the tender green shoot of a tree, cut down at the height of his beauty - but forever remembered because he became a legend (like Achilles...). The armour had "moegi-odoshi" (not Moe-odori) which is the design where the green moegi coloured threads are woven throughout the armour. A photo of a reconstruction of Taira-no-Atsumori's famous armour is shown in the link below. The equestrian statue of the young man is also shown. It's located in Kobe, which is close to the location of that battle. OK, this is too painful, the reference to moegi armour is too too painful... Why Yuzu? Are you offering your head to the ISU general? http://kobeblog.net/u/557108a/oEnp0zLlOatmITjBS1fi Found an English website showing the statue of Atsumori: https://equestrianstatue.org/taira-no-atsumori/
