Looking back, GIFT was truly an unforgettable masterpiece

I hope that Disney+ will use the version with subtitles for the global stream. And that they also provide subtitles for the extra footage …

I know this has all been said before, but I'm so grateful for the experience I had at GIFT. The show was mind-blowing of course, but I was happily surprised at how wonderful it was to meet other international fanyus. Thank you to everyone who went and who exchanged gifts with me. I hope there will be another Tokyo Dome-like event for us all to gather again! 

Like everyone else I cannot wait to hear about Gift on Disney plus with special features.

I am especially intrigued to find out how Yuzu came up with the concepts for the monologues and stories. Yuzu must have had in depth discussions with the other production artists to create the animation sequences, the filming work, background art for all of the programmes, costume designers and also the composers and working with Mikiko again. The background music for some of the stories was very atmospheric and added a lot to the flow of the story. 

Gift was essentially Yuzu's directorial debut in the film industry and it was an incredible first work. 

I truly hope that this show will be remembered and re-watched as long as humankind is alive. I also hope this will only be the beginning of Yuzu's masterwork. I don't expect him to do this often, but looking forward to other shows produced, managed and skated by him. After SOI, it's just on a different level. 

 

Of course, if there are blue rays or Disney+ streaming available for overseas fans, I am all for it

With regards to Gift, fans are hoping for a permanent electronic disc or download for purchase. Gift is a work of art, a chef d'oeuvres as you say, it should be preserved for the future.

 

The Gift Post Show booklet will be due for posting late May and June. This will be a wonderful keepsake

 

The snow globe is due to ship August/September, although the design has not been released as yet, these are certain to become collectors items and treasured by those who decided to buy them.

 

Many fans hope that one day Sendai will honour Yuzu with a new ice rink for Yuzu's shows and a museum to showcase all of his achievements, awards and medals, costumes, photo exhibition and memorabilia. It would be a place for fans to pay tribute to Yuzu and leave lovely messages in visitors books for Yuzu.

For Yuzu's sake, I would prefer this to happen sooner rather than later. Thinking about him practicing and skating at night all the time is definitely not good for his health. Also, I read somewhere that he stated that the current practice environment is not ideal. So I hope they raise funds for a second ice rink although it's very expensive to build and maintain one.

If the fans' dream of a museum selling Yuzu merchandise came true, the funds raised would be enough to maintain a rink, especially if mail order with global shipping was offered. Certainly in the UK a huge amount of museum funding comes from sales of the museums related gifts, cafe etc. A rink hosting Yuzu's ice shows would  also make enough money to be profitable and pay back building and maintenance costs. in addition the rink would surely charge some fees for hiring as a venue to host competitions or practice sessions. 

Ice rink Sendai has to provide training space for Figure, Speed and Hockey. Ensuring that each discipline receive enough allocated time must be very challenging

 

A visiting fan took photos of the area at the back where all of the rink machinery is located - for making the ice rink surface etc. Poor Ice Rink Sendai really looks very overworked, judging from those pictures.

At the end of the show he said clearly that this story will always be with us, that we can go back to it whenever we want. In my opinion this means that he intends to make a DVD, Blu ray, or allow a download in a legal way... I have no idea what medium he will choose, but I think he will somehow make GIFT purchasable.

 

An ice skating rink has very high costs, so it is unlikely that another will be built. I too hope they will be able to do it, because Yuzu cannot continue to train forever at night and live isolated from everyone.

Mao Asada has just announced that she's going to build her own ice rink, so it's not impossible. Yuzuru's fundraising ability is no less than hers.

Inflation will increase costs year on year but there were figures published from ? 3 years ago when Javi F was talking about having a rink built for his skating foundation academy. The initial building cost was a lot ( several millions of Euros ) but the maintenance made the project prohibitively expensive 500- 750K euros per annum. As mentioned the maintenance costs could be met by merchandise and ticket sales. Yuzu's popularity is much greater than any other individual skater. 'Friendship' schemes could also be offered, for example Royal Opera House and London Coliseum offer fixed period friendship packages of varying amounts which entitle the purchaser to certain number of complementary tickets per year with their package, depending package cost, plus discounts and priority booking for other productions, food and drink and special lounge access each year. This sort of small sponsorship is vital for the maintenance of these buildings and sponsorship of the arts. A Yuzu rink could easily offer such a range of products if a rink is built. Do such friendship schemes exist in Japan? They are essentially non corporate sponsorship for private individuals to contribute to heritage projects like theatres and museums.

Personally speaking, knowing that through a friendship scheme some tickets to a Yuzu show were guaranteed as part of an annual payment and then to have VIP access for  priority ticket sales, would be well worth paying towards rink maintenance.

May be Mao is planning to have her own ice skating school and becoming a coach herself?

I've read about Mao's rink too, and I know that even she's well loved, Yuzu has a superior following. Yuzu has it in Japan, but he has it mostly with international fans. I don't know how many tweets I've seen from international fans who went skating at the Ice Rink during a vacation in Japan.
Aside from selling merchandise, Yuzu can sell advertising space, because we all see the ads around the rink in his videos. I'd say those ads are seen by more people than they saw the ads at the last World Championship. However, the costs are very high, also because if he skates during the day, during those hours the rink would be closed to the public and to any type of course.
As with everything...we'll see. The only thing I'm sure of is that he'll do his math before deciding anything, and we know he's got a world-class brain.

It looks like a bigger project, including 2 ice rinks (an international-sized main rink and a sub rink), off-ice training facilities, a stage for dancers (she trains ballet, jazz and tap-dance), restaurant providing food to all the trainees, and a gallery with an exhibition of her costumes. As far as I understand, she wants her own place to coach (a school for children and an academy for top skaters), and a place to prepare and perform her ice shows. In Yuzu's case, in the place of a mere gallery, an entire museum, a multimedia archive, a projection room recreating his best performances on a big screen, a library and a scientific lab should be considered. 😂 Not to mention the huge screen, the Phoenix lift and the orchestra pit on the main rink. 🙃 So, yeah, it may take a while.

Fans would pay good money to see the museum/ visiting photo exhibitions, shows, merchandise and any other Yuzu crumbs or feasts that there may be on offer. It would potentially generate a lot of revenue in hospitality for Sendai as well
