Hi. It's almost been 3 years since Beijing Olympics. 3 years without competitive Yuzu has been kind of boring but I met my husband during that time and a lot has changed.

I can't believe that next year will be the first winter Olympics without Yuzu because 2014 Sochi Olympics was my first winter Olympics watching men's figure skating.

Life has just not been the same without Yuzu competing and I have lost interest in men's figure skating and figure skating in general.

Are you looking forward to next year's winter Olympics? I think Yuzu might be going there as an announcer or reporter 🤔

Because he is still a big part of Japan figure skating culture.

That is the only place where I will see Yuzu in a competing ice rink and I hope they invite him to the olympic Gala, if that's possible? Is it?

It seems unlikely, as mentioned in his recent interview for The Japan Times:

He doesn’t keep up with figure skating news and has no plans to go to Italy for the next Winter Olympics in 2026. He doesn’t think watching competitions helps him in his career at this point because his focus is to “think outside the figure skating box.”

We are instead very excited about his solo shows every year. He's always surprising us and every new show gets better than the last!

Where can I see the translations of Yuzu's YouTube Membership rant videos? I clicked in the Twitter links and I can't see the comments?

Are his membership video rants translated on this site too?

The translations are basically posted as comments on his membership posts, hence only members can read them. They are not posted in public out of respect for him.

Welcome and we understand how hard it is to do without Yuzu. I invite you to explore the wonderful world of Yuzu's professional skating career, which started the day he left competition for good, in July 2022.  Since then Yuzu has produced the solo ice show Prologue- a retrospective of his competive career- and written, produced, directed, choreographed, and starred in 3 amazing solo Ice Stories: GiFT, Re_PRAY, and now, Echoes of Life.

(If you'd like to watch Echoes of Life this weekend, you can purchase a ticket to the livestream here:

)

In addition, he's starred in Notte Stellata Ice Show every year and done Fantasy On Ice as well.

He's still skating, he's still amazing, and he's said in interviews that he's not interested in returning to competition.

Yes, very excited about what Yuzu has been doing over the last three years and even more excited about what is to come. I could call these years everything but boring. And competitions… no, thank you. Those are boring indeed.

There's an interview with Satomi Ito here (Feb 6, 2025), there's a bit of Yuzu mention in it so I'm sharing only the relevant parts:

Spoiler

About Ilia's costume:

- You have also designed costumes for foreign athletes, but what led you to design costumes for Ilia Malinin?
"I was introduced to him by Shae. She asked me to make a costume for Malinin, but American skaters tend to go for a pretty simple style, so at first I was a bit worried about what they would think of my glittery costumes. But when I first met Malinin, when his mother and coach, Tatiana Malinina, came to have a fitting and spoke with me, he said that he really liked Yuzuru Hanyu's black costume from "Origin" (2018-2019FS), and said, "As long as it's easy to move in, it's fine. Feel free to do whatever you want. You can even add lots of sparkles." He seems to have a particular preference for the silhouette of his pants, and said that he prefers them to be not too big and to fit his legs nicely."

What I want to do in the future with regards to figure skating:
-- You designed the costumes for Yuzuru Hanyu's "SEIMEI" that won him his second consecutive Olympic gold medal in Pyeongchang, the free skate for silver medalist Shoma Uno, and the costumes for silver medalist Yuma Kagiyama in Beijing, as well as Hanyu himself. Do you feel a special emotion when athletes wearing the costumes you designed perform well at the Olympic Games, a sports festival that takes place once every four years?
"It's a really special stage, so I'm very grateful that someone chose to wear it for such an occasion."

-- Costume production seems like a constant state of output, but are there ever any moments when you run out of ideas?
"Absolutely. There are times when I feel like I can't think of anything. At times like that, it's really important to take a rest. When I'm really stuck, instead of going to work, I take a short trip, like a deserted place, a flower field, or somewhere with lots of nature, and try to refresh myself."

-- Not only in competitions, but you're also actively involved with ice shows, such as Yuzuru Hanyu's "ICE STORY" series, Mao Asada's "BEYOND" and "Everlasting33". What do you want to tackle in the future in figure skating?
"I've been doing this for 10 years, and I think the number of costume designers have increased both in Japan and overseas. Korean costume designs in particular are now of very high quality. I really feel that the level of costume designers in Japan, including myself, needs to be raised. That's why I'm taking a break to look at the figure skating world as a whole from the outside, and see if I can raise the level. Also, I think it's a shame that there is no training budget for costumes. The federation gives us various opinions about costumes, but I've always thought that the federation should support skaters even more. I'm currently exploring little by little whether there is something I can do to support skaters in my own way."

--Thank you very much for sharing your valuable insights, Ms. Ito, from your background in supporting figure skaters in terms of costume production.
