Skating on the Planet
utsukushii3A replied to yuzuangel's topic in Knickknacks: General Skating Chat
@shanshani, that's a shame that you don't have freestyle sessions! Uh, wow, um, at least you can say you touched a Worlds medalist? That's so cool about the Seimei music! -
Ohhh, holding your leg that way makes Y-spirals much easier. He's always demonstrating good technique. Thanks, Yuzu! Also, please put that in a program! Well, it is shiny and metallic. EDIT: Wait, I just noticed that Yuzu kinda rolled his eyes and shook his head, and I got a little upset thinking, "Oh, no, was Yuzu being mean!?" So I looked up how much Rolex watches cost... Okay, unless that was some kind of inside joke between him and Boyang, he probably shouldn't have done it on camera, but wow, that is one superfluously expensive watch brand. I hope they're at least sturdy.

Thank you for posting! As a colossal perfectionist, his interviews like this are so relatable.
-
OMG, I should be getting ready for work, but YUZU HAS ARRIVED, and now all I want to do is look through the 5 pages of Worlds Fluff thread that have been posted since I went to sleep. I mean, none of my coworkers would be surprised if I were late because of figure skating, but I shouldn't be anyway. Here's hoping I don't stab myself in the eye with my eyeliner trying to hurry up and get back to the Planet. 頑張ってください、羽生選手!!! (Good luck, Yuzu!!!)

Yuzu has the amazing ability to put glasses on and just look like Yuzu in glasses. I wish I had that ability. I look like a completely different person, and it freaks me out, so I just walk around half-blind if I can't wear contacts. Tumblr's algorithm is weird. A friend of mine had something about cooking blocked by that porn filter. And no, he wasn't baking cookies shaped like reproductive organs or anything.
-
Hmm, I always suspected superconducting blades might be behind Yuzu's gorgeously smooth skating, but maybe it's a levitation spell! (Just kidding, I know it's skill and effort and good coaching.) OMG, I lost it at "their headmasters are gay". And Dumbledore's full name is Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore. I hope Yuzu isn't really carrying the world's misery or known as a dork and a troublemaker in school, though...

Oh, the suspense...! Much as I want to see him, and as much as my mom is probably going to drill me with questions about him and his arrival as soon as she wakes up, and I won't be able to answer any of them, I'm sure he's thought out his every move very carefully and decided on what's best for him and his chances at success, and I fully respect that. I watered myself sufficiently yesterday by practicing a ton of cross rolls and Ina Bauers and hydroblading anyway. (insert cactus emoji here)
-
I have no idea what "weshenki" is supposed to be, but is "roast beef of a language" a botched attempt at "roast cow tongue"? Yuzu would probably order that, since he likes gyuutan. ...and now I'm hungry.
-
Oh gosh, if any Japanese-speakers ever want a really good laugh, do a Japanese->English Bing translation. Sometimes it's decent, other times it's hilariously bad. It does a decent job with Yuzu's blogs, but anything with a lot of informal language or figure skating/music/anime/whatever terminology is a very, very different story. Tweets in Japanese are goldmines for bad Bing translations.
-
OMG, the blog post. He sounded so pumped. The way he said the word 勝利 (victory) so emphatically! Thinking about Worlds, maybe? That sure was motivating for my practice later. And this has nothing to do with anything except maybe that Yuzu likes cats, but it is cute and I must share that my cat is now falling asleep sitting up for some reason....
-
I've never heard that expression before. It's definitely not used where I live, at least that I know of.
-
Google Translate has not been studying Japanese for half its life. I checked the thread here, and maybe "nothing on" some kind of non-American phrasing meaning "nothing going on" that I've never heard, but it should definitely be "nothing going on" to avoid confusion. Here's an alternate translation if anyone wants to use it: "Hello, everyone. This is Yuzuru Hanyu. On Friday, the week is in its second half, too. (T/N: I think this is a pun on the second half of a skating program.) What do you all plan to do on your days off? When I have a day off where I don't have to do anything, I often play video games. For me, video games are an item for restoring my vitality! (T/N: I think this is a pun on items in video games that restore HP and such.) I hope everyone has a wonderful day off."
-
Wait, what!? Which blog entry? The Kose one said he plays games when he has nothing to do, not nothing on!
-
Maybe Team Cricket has secret photo themes that no one has caught on to until now, and this month's is "a one-adorable-Asian-man-per-photo limit". Uggggh, so much new material, but I have to finish some work before I can watch the videos... (Why is there no cactus emoji? )
-
Like here? He obviously was embarrassed and felt bad for Boyang that he didn't get to answer, but I hope he can look back on this and see himself as a very smart person who genuinely cares about his sport and not some rambling dude who spoke for 5 minutes.
-
If the companies, etc. altered the suits to fit Yuzu, they'd might as well just give them to him when they're finished because they'll probably never have another ambassador/skater/whatever-he-is-to-them who could wear them. They very well might have offered, only to have him refuse for that very reason.
-
Yuzuka would be a beautiful name for a little girl named after both Yuzu and Rika Kihira.
-
Lol, the bold explains why my estimates of how short or how prerotated a jump is are always multiples of 30°. That had been confusing the living daylights out of me. Thank you for posting the video! It's definitely clearer with the video editor rather than me trying to hit the spacebar fast enough on Youtube. ...Clearer, still not clearly underrotated...
-
Wow, I had this open to watch later and finally got around to it. I started off with Origin and than was mighty confused, because I didn't remember him falling in Helsinki... well, duh, because this is Rostelecom. I thought his skate with an ankle injury was his world record skate until he fell. He's so amazing.
-
Has anyone actually seen where the supposed underrotation on his Helsinki quad loop is? Does anyone here agree with that? I'm no technical specialist, but I think I know math well enough to be able to pick out most underrotations. The quad toe was borderline, but I couldn't see anything remotely resembling an underrotation on the loop.
-
Awwww, that explains it! I wonder if that's how they enticed him to do the commercial or if it's a condition he put on it.
-
The compendium of bad pictures on Twitter should be good for a rank or two.
-
Yes, she also gave a wonderful account of Yuzu and Javi at the Olympics...
-
Good gracious, he is such a sweetie. This is very true. Stuffiness will age you fast.

Skating on the Planet

shanshani, crowded sessions are rough on practically everyone, try not to beat yourself up too much! I never feel like I've regressed at crowded sessions, but I have horrendous depth perception, so I don't do much advanced stuff out of fear of slicing someone's leg while kicking back for a toe jump or something. Was this at a public session or a freestyle session? If it were a freestyle session, are parents usually allowed on the ice? Unless he were practicing or taking a lesson, he'd have been kicked off fast at my rink. At the very least, he'd have been told to stay by the boards or in the hockey box if he wanted to film his kid. One of my coaches always scolds us if we don't look behind ourselves on back crossovers. Not saying this was by any means your fault, since not all coaches teach that way, but you might want to try that if you weren't.
