  1. Probably because of how many people go to Japan (or any country) and refuse to learn any of the language and expect everyone to speak English. Occasionally, some of them even get rude or aggressive to the ones who won't/can't speak English. Believe me, no hockey players are necessary for rink ice to get gross. I can never unsee the things I've seen...
  2. Not sure about hakama, but skating costumes are made of stretch material, and his are custom-made. Most of the suits probably belong to the companies or the Japanese fed, or at the very least are store-bought and not custom-fitted. At least he's Japanese and thus closer to the average proportions of his country's off-the-rack clothing than if he were American. I don't think anyone can have skin that nice without it being mostly genetic, unless wiping your edges and face on the same towel is actually the world's most effective skincare routine. (More likely, his skin genes are why he can do that, not that it helps his skin.)
  3. Ore. If I'm not mistaken, these days it's more informal than rude. It would be rude with the Prime Minister but not with his buddies. Usually, he uses "boku" with less formal media like the commercial and "watashi" with formal media. But occasionally he lets a "ore" slip here and there, especially in impromptu interviews like immediately after competing, which is why I've guessed that's probably the one he prefers.
  4. Oh, wow, that moisturizer is expensive... Oh well. It's not like we have confirmation that Yuzu actually uses it. If we did, I'd probably fork over the money... It's interesting how he changes his first-person pronoun depending on the context. As contradictory as it might seem to how beautiful and otherworldly he is on the ice, I definitely get the feeling that 俺 is the real Yuzu.
  5. I got super-stressed about exams my second year of uni. I eventually grew out of it, at least most of it.
  6. Midterms make a lot of people crazy. You'll be fine.
  7. I've already resigned myself to getting up at some abominable hour to watch. My only debate is how much tea and coffee money to bring to work afterwards.
  8. You can pray, and maybe take a break from FS for a while. If not, at least read/watch some of the good things coaches and other skaters and the news say about him instead. There's certainly no shortage of it. It's your brain, of course you can stop yourself from thinking bad things. And he's probably the last person in the world who would want anyone feeling sorry for him.
  9. It would be so wonderful if Yuzu spilled his skincare secrets, but there very well might be no secret other than good genes. But as someone whose coworkers would probably faint if they saw what my skin looks like without a ton of makeup, I will buy that moisturizer and pray! If it improves anything, you all will be the first to know. ...Oh, what I wouldn't give to be a fly on the wall of TCC after they all see that video. And anyanee, hang in there, it's not Yuzu's fault, and despite all the bias and such, he's still widely acknowledged as the best skater of his generation if not of all time. A few points less than he deserves or a few imaginary URs have not held him back much if at all. I'll never understand where the Helsinki judges saw an underrotation on that gorgeous quad loop, but hey, he got the world record and the gold medal anyway! If the world of figure skating were really as bleak as you're imagining, this place would be a lot less positive and fun. Yes, a lot of us are worried about Worlds, but mostly because of his ankle, not because of judging or anything. Just look at the thousands of fans who follow him all over the world to competitions. They wouldn't spend all that time and money for someone who was doomed to fail because of hate and bias.
  10. Would Yuzu ever settle for a prerotated quint, though? That would be amazing! I'd probably have to spend a million dollars on customs though, given my strangely shaped feet. Not saying I wouldn't...
  11. Mathematically, either faster rotation or greater height could do it. Realistically, you'd need both, and even then, it might be beyond human capability.
  12. Hopefully Yuzu will just do what makes him happy with next season's programs. Personally, I'd be fine with new ones or recycling. IMO, Otonal and Origin have risen far beyond tributes. They're all Yuzu. Besides, I can see Johnny and Plushy's influence in Yuzu's skating as a whole, not just those two programs. It's no coincidence that they were my favorites before him.
  13. I was feeling mathy, so I made this graph of all Yuzu's scores that are on Wikipedia. The blue ones are his total scores. The slope (the number before the x in the equation) on this is the largest, which means his total score has risen the fastest with time. The R2 value is also the highest, which means that it has the least variation from the trendline. But that only means that it fits a linear model best, not that it has the least variation overall. So, from this, it looks like his total score is his fastest-growing, but his SP score is beautifully consistent. Also, as he gets more and more difficult content, his scores vary more, which makes perfect sense given how hugely one missed element can affect the score at such a high level of skating. And yes, the colors are on purpose to match his costumes and medals.
  14. Oh how I wish I had Line just to get those stamps. And I have no idea what you guys are talking about with these elf languages. I love languages and have at least heard of most if not almost all real ones. My heart skipped a beat at Quenya and Sindarin. TWO languages I've never heard of mentioned side-by-side!? NOOOOOO. Big sigh of relief when I figured out from context that they're fictional. Sindarin looks like it could be some kind of Asian language, though...
  15. My country's UA doesn't make tops with waists small enough for me. The ultimate irony as a Yuzu fan?
  16. Lol, this was a real conversation between my mom and me in a thrift store: Me: Oh my gosh, look! A Winnie the Pooh sweater from Japan! Mom: Oh. That's... nice. Me: I mean, it's a long shot, but Yuzu might have touched this! There's a chance! Mom: Ohhhhhhh! Right, he likes Pooh. For a second, I thought you'd lost your mind. My usual wardrobe is closer to his costumes than to the average person's regular clothes, so she must have been pretty confused. And yes, I did buy the sweater. It's two sizes too big, and I don't own a single piece of clothing that it doesn't look utterly ridiculous with, but... there's a chance, man.
  17. Just... how...? Soooo gorgeous. Thank you for posting! And B80!? Hmm... I think the only way to settle at least some of this uncertainty without Yuzu actually revealing his measurements is to have a fan who is very experienced with handling/wearing delicate, fancy clothing and has a bust larger than 80 cm and a waist smaller than 63 cm try on one of his costumes. I volunteer myself. It's amazing how he looks even more graceful when dancing or skating next to someone else... and that's by no means because the others aren't graceful! The other guy at the beginning was certainly no klutz, but the way Yuzu moves is just so different than anyone else.
  18. Seriously. I used to watch these talk shows that would have things like "parents and children who look like twins", and most of them didn't even look at much alike as Yuzu and his mom.
  19. My single jumps are free from the circle! I could only do waltz jumps anywhere I wanted before, but today, I was flying all over the place doing single jumps and combo jumps wherever there was room and it fit the music I was listening to. I just wish I could get the hang of spins and back 3-turns. I have such weird gaps in my skills. I can do a 1S-1T-rippon-1T with transitions in and out, but I can't do a back 3-turn or more than maybe two scratchy revolutions on a one-foot spin...
  20. THANK YOU. OMG, I have never seen this before. I cannot find the words for how adorable this is in any language I know. It's almost enough to make me want to watch Tokyo Ghoul so I can understand who Kaneki is and what's going on, but... I'm a total and complete wimp with scary stuff. That's interesting that he hears the characters' voices when he reads manga. I do, too. (If it's a manga/game that hasn't been made into an anime, my brain just decides on voices that fit the characters. Then if it gets made into one, it really throws me for a loop for a while until the actual voice actor's voice inevitably overrides my made-up voice. I wonder if the same thing happens to Yuzu.) I also hear Yuzu's voice when reading his quotes or interviews or screenshots with subtitles. Lol, I'm not sure that's entirely voluntary. I'm a music thief, too. I try to suppress it as much as I can, but it's soooooooooo hard not to skate to other people's music. That definitely looks to be Yuzu visible off to the left a few times. And wow, Zhenya is mesmerizing. And Misha's choreography is stunning as usual. I really, really hope he choreographs something for Yuzu someday.
  21. I heard one of Yuzu's program songs in a commercial today. I don't want to say which one and jinx anything... But I hope that was a sign of (REDACTED TO AVOID JINXING). Also, I really think my hypothesis about that age guesser going by shadows/brightness of the face more than any other feature was correct... I took some selfies that turned out very bright and ran them through it to test it out. It said that I'm 11 years old in the bright one and 9 years old in the even brighter one. I'm older than Yuzu.
  22. I have always had really, really, really stiff ankles and have been working on stretching them, and wow, I did a save on a jump combo that made me immediately go all giddy and fangirly over Yuzu and his incredible jump saves. It wasn't a remotely advanced combo, and I think it's more a matter of being the same stubborn, never-give-up type as Yuzu than that watching him so much actually helped me be a better skater, but as a big ol' fangirl, I like to think that he helped.
  23. The most handsome troll brigade of all time. Shoma swinging his medal on the way by, LOL!
  24. I didn't see this here, so sorry if this is a repost, but look, the Laureus folks gave us fans a nice acknowledgement!
