Okay, sorry if I'm coming across as a jerk, but I'm just feeling really mad that no one is noticing my post about my recent fan mail to Yuzuru Hanyu. I get that you are talking about his group picture with other people, but I'm trying to ask anyone if he might reply to it and have also posted it before (in the links with my last post).

Perhaps the persons who came across your post didn't know the answer to this (as I did, I'm very sorry :tumblr_inline_np9uqfin9j1qid2nw_75sq::tumblr_inline_n2pje3s3EO1qdlkyg: ). Putting a friendly reminder isn't being a jerk :)

In most cases the audience claps and screams after a quad or huge combo. Yuzu makes everyone freak out, before his step sequence has even started in Otonal... In that sense his performance is everything.

This, and the rest of your two posts about art in Yuzu's programmes : thank you :10742289: Hearing your feelings put in the right words is always so satisfying !!

  6. Talking about legacy ... we know there a lot of skaters influenced by him, but there is also a Japanese rhythmic gymnast (2017 WC bronze with hoop) who's using H&L music :68556365: (I confess my brain didn't understand first, I had a moment of wavering ...''what's happening !" !!)

Tbh I don't think that Javi will travel to all the way to Saitama unless Brian forces him to be there as Yuzu's personal motivation booster.

In that case the organizers might make an exception and give him an accreditation card with the label "MASCOT" so that he's allowed to enter the rinkside

Thanks for introducing me to her!

As I said, I know little about the sport, but apparently she won Olympic gold twice:eeking:

Yep, she's basically considered as a Queen in RG.

She won 2 OGM, 17 world titles (3 for all-around competition, it's a little bit like the world title you get in fs competition), 12 european titles, broke WR I don't know how many times. She was the first to do win 2 OGM and she still is (and I think it will still be a record for a long time...). She dominated rhythmic gymnatics nearly during all her senior active period 2007-2012 (she started competed in senior in 2005).

Thanks for pointing that out. I've read the topic and thought it was really cool.

Had no idea it was such a big thing in Japan.

I have a question: is there also such a thing as warhorses in this sport?

It's actually quite succesful in Japan (not as much as fs though !), especially since Japan team started getting medal in single and group events (Kaho Minagawa won bronze in hoop event in 2017, Japanese group won 3 silvers and 1 bronze in the 2 last world championships. And of course, Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 is arriving soon !)

Hey guys, @yuzuangel will be making an official post about our website launch here later today  but here is a new figure skating website we recently created! If you guys are interested in rewatching the men's SP and ladies' SP & FS, it's up on our website thanks to @LadyLou who shared the 4cc videos. We also have a lot of 2018/2019 competitions as well as other competitions prior to this season in different broadcasts/commentaries. Olympics, CWW, Eng subs that are taken down, Worlds... you name it. Hope you guys enjoy!

    SkatingPortal.com

We're currently a work in progress. Lots of bugs and login issues. But that's what we need you guys for so please help us test it out.

p.s. if you guys want to rant about figure skating, we have a thread for it lol

Something to water our cactus, hopefully.

One of the commentator is Alban Préaubert, former french figure skater and French Eurosport commentator for these last 6 or 7 years I think ?

I don't know the name of the other one, but he used to comment very often for french Eurosport, too.

Alban is in fact one of the two infamous commentators (with Nathalie Péchalat) who were super unfair with Yuzuru during the grand prix series. Which is really a shame, because his comments are usually pretty good. But these last years he's been pretty harsh with Yuzu (and Javi, too, tbh), loving more the youger generation - I guess he's one of those guys who don't like when it's always the same ones on the top.

Happy to hear comments from the time when he still loved him :)

(He also looooved H&L Helsinki 2017, to be fair)

    Thank you !

I still don't know much about figure skating, so sorry for not recognizing Alban Préaubert' voice.

I realised they were some conversation about him earlier (page 4248 in the General Chat & GP Rostelecom Cup Men SP page 73 the ego problem lol). I didn't dig enough !

  13. "Juliet, don’t die. If Romeo dies, I die."

    Logic 100%

Also does anyone know the name of these two commentators (french speaking SUB and no it's not Monfort and Candeloro) ?

Actually, they are pretty funny because, at first, one of the man seems quite skeptical on the capacity of Yuzuru Hanyu to break another WR (it was just after his first WR at Skate America 2012).... But then at the end, he's totally convince, can't believe what he just saw, saying ''This is the 2014 Olympic champion" and "he's landing on the ice like a feather" :tumblr_inline_mp4i2vHXDy1qz4rgp:(ah ah if only he'd known the meaning of 羽). This cannot be more accurate !

I do believe that he sticks with the 4T+3A sequence... At the moment it's his hardest jump element and most impressive weapon that nobody else can offer. It could leave a key impact on the judges, if he landed it clean for the first time and right in front of their eyes. It's Nessie's little sister. In a way.

If the 4Lo is not ready until Worlds, Yuzu can still include the sequence in his layout and he wouldn't really lose anything in his BV:

    4S,   4T,   3Lo,   3Lz // 4T+3A+SEQ,   3F+3T,   3A+1Eu+3S
    BV: 86.83   Max. TSS: 222.68 (with +5 and 10.00)

With his full jump arsenal (4Lo, 3Lz included) there are countless layout options. Don't want to list them up here, but the BV would be around 92 and max. TSS 231.

Yep ! Just dropping this .. (if it can reassure some of you or not, though I'm sure a lot of you already did the calculation like Henni147 did !)

    https://imgur.com/a/7ATU5DJ

    With GP Helsinki layout (4Lo 4S 3Lo 4T // 4T+3Aseq 3F+3T 3A+1eu+3S)

    BV 91.43 - Max TES (+5): 128.58

    ... while Nathan Chen US nat layout (4Lz 4F 4T 3A // 4T+3T 3Lz+3T 3F+1eu+3S)

    BV: 94,39 - Max TES (+5): 133,29

I think we will never know beforehand when he actually decides that, but I guess the discussion about 2020 is because before people where discussing about 2019 and he actually said about plans for the next season, so. I guess some people still can't understand how he can still want to skate after everything he accomplished.

I don't understand why some people can't understand how he can still want to skate ?

When Michelangelo sculpted ''David'', people weren't ''Oh that's awesome ... now can you just stop".

Or very good musicians and composers ''Ok you've already played and record a lot of pieces. Your quota is full. Stop playing music"

Same for Usain Bolt in Rio. Can we just enjoy people that like what there are doing :dancingpooh::68556365:

So sweet! For those who don't know, a red thread (or scarf, in this case) represents fate in Japanese culture.

I spent far longer than I had time for trying to come up with an equation to model that. I didn't have time to finish it (mostly because I started going into a ton of detail), but it definitely involved an ex and some function composition.

Yes, those of us who can understand him in Japanese are so lucky. He's so eloquent and expressive. :snpeace:

I bet my account that every single nominee, committee member, SM maintainer and occasional viewer has already googled, who this mysterious Hanyu guy with tons of fans is. There's no better advertisement for figure skating, Japanese sport and Olympics 2020.

Although the rational part of my brain is telling me that normally when you start following a sport you know that one day, your favorite will retire, or he/she will be defited, or just his/her world record will be broken. It's the normal path of sport, and all of that doesn't undermine what your favorite has acheived. But yeah, if you're unhealthy ... ok topic closed !

(& @Veveco) You can tell me that, but I'd never heard of it before Yuzu got nominated...by 'well-known', I mean 'something the world-wide general public would have heard of'...methinks it's prominent in Europe,  more than the rest of the world, and given the number of Europeans on the panel, maybe I'm right?

Yes, coming from an European country, I think it's definitly more an sort of ''european - western'' award.

Just a little question : Hanyu has a lot of fans, he also has people who don't really like his skating but respect him, but he also has some antis and some of them are coming from Japan. I just don't understand why some japanese people would be antis to Hanyu. I mean, I get why some people don't really like his skating that much, after all it's personal (I don't force anyone to love him). But I don't get why people are mad, saying very brutal things against him, as sportsman as well as a person. Is it related to a cultural thing or just anti usual stuff ?

(I'm so sorry for that question, because maybe some of you are very sensitive about this subject :10636614:)
