Is it just me or does that we’re-going-to-commercial music matches his exercise? This post has been tagged by yuzuangel as [NEWS].

When you just know it's not Day 3 based on what Yuzu is doing hahaha.
-
If it's Day 3 again, I'm going to bed, haha. I hope it's Day 1.
-
It comes back at 2:47 JST. So in about 20 minutes.

Thank you everyone for sharing clips!

Can someone post when P/C skate? Lol So I have time to log into the stream? Thank you!!
-
Does anyone know who skates right before Yuzu? My internet cut out so I’m going to have to log into the stream with data….

Exactly. Fans of other sports will literally laugh in our faces with how carefully fanyus tread when talking about FS. But even so, no matter how reasonable, as soon as a non-fan finds out we are fanyus, it's tossed aside as "those delusional fanyus again". So there's a lot of distaste when we experience this but other fans can say whatever they want about Yuzu. @BonnieLou - I just thought of a little more context. Haha, sorry for all this, but I hope it helps you navigate! You mentioned you don't understand why they are criticizing the "seaweed" costume when others have also imitated Yuzu's costume and been praised. I suspect it has to do which one Kagiyama is imitating. The reference is Requiem, Yuzu's gala program in 2015-2016. Requiem is music composed for the 5-year anniversary of 3.11. Imitating this particular costume feels especially....distasteful to some fans when Kagiyama is not a survivor of 3.11. Notice that despite all these juniors skating to Yuzu's old music choices and imitating his costumes, none of them (that I know) have touched on his programs related to 3.11. So I'm not that surprised it drew criticism, to be honest.

Just a bit of context for you since you mentioned you are a new fanyu. (Welcome!) Fans of other skaters will criticize Yuzu or fanyu behaviour, even when that "behaviour" is technical, such as pointing out other skaters' tech issues, but when fanyus stand up for Yuzu or for themselves, they are often hit back with "Yuzuru is so nice to everyone; he would be ashamed of your behaviour." This happens often on Twitter. Fanyus are held by the rest of the fandom to a higher standard than fans of any other skater, and many things are often blamed on us. I believe OP's tweet is in reference to this. Other people can comment how "rude" it is only talk about Yuzu, but fanyus are expected to keep any criticism about other skaters to themselves. It has been this way for many years now, and many fans are fed up with this double standard. It doesn't help the frustration when the other 2 skaters are JSF favourites and often generously scored for poor tech/components. You yourself noted the same type of things - that Yuzu is so nice, so why would his fans do this. (I, for one, am nowhere near Yuzu's kindness, haha.) And you pointed out that OP is critcizing another skater, but no mention of others criticizing Yuzu's fans for "disrespect" even though there is nothing wrong with talking about one's favourite athletes. I am not trying to accuse you of anything! Merely pointing out why OP's tweet may have so many likes and providing some context why some older fans are so fed up.

Have you read Axel with Wings's translation of the DOI interview? His answer to the training base question, at least to me, suggests it depends on the pandemic/border situation. He basically says definitely Japan for now because amongst other things, there are difficulties to get to Canada right now. And he's right. Our border is still not open to foreign nationals. He would have to jump through a number of hoops and probably get declared some kind of special status to even be considered, not to mention the exemption for 14-day quarantine is for fully vaccinated Canadian nationals, which means even if he could get across the border, he'd be wasting 2 weeks in a condo or something, and he's Yuzu, so he'd never consider breaking the rules. It just doesn't really make sense to figure out that trip when Japan has been manageable even if not 100% ideal. But to me, the fact that he even knows it's currently difficult to get into Canada, means that he's looked it up or is keeping track, which means he's interested in going back even if it's only part time. You don't look up entry requirements to a country you're not interested in going to. Like I could tell you current entry requirements for Canadians into Russia are difficult, but I've got no clue for France. My personal opinion is that if he could, he'd do half and half. Regardless though, let's have some faith that he knows what's best for his current situation given the global restrictions.

I thought the official does ask the coach's opinion, and I can be remembering wrong, but I thought I had also read an interview where Brian said the consideration wasn't just physical condition either. Yuzu was absolutely determined to compete, so Brian had considered what it would mean mentally for Yuzu too if he told the official that no, he didn't think his student should compete. The medical staff said he didn't have a concussion, Yuzu said he was fine, Brian asked if he was sure, and then gave his ok.

I looked into visa first, haha. It sounds like from Canada, there are some hoops to jump through even to get a Russian visa. I was actually wondering if anyone has experience with Russian visas or been to CoR and could share their experience? What I can find re: Russian visa requires some kind of invite letter so if any satellite has advice, would love to hear it!

I think Sendai as a whole (and the native Sendai people) is pretty protective of Yuzu though. Like we know he's there and probably makes fairly regular trips to the rink (albeit at potentially odd hours), but we haven't seen tons of pictures of him or heard about him being chased or mobs camped outside his family home. That seems to happen more in other places or at Sendai comps/ice shows when it's not just the native population. So I don't think that he'd necessarily get mobbed in the line, but I agree it's probably easier to just book him before the first appointment of the day and have him in and out and avoid that possibility altogether. And yea, I agree that regardless of how he's going to get vaccinated, I'm just glad to hear he will be soon.

I don't have Twitter, but Happy Super Slam anniversary and Happy #FanyuGoldenWeek, everyone! Hope all of the Planet's keeping safe.

It's so funny to see the Untamed recommended here. I blew through the drama near the beginning of this pandemic/lockdown and the series and its various iterations have kept me company for the last 9 months. Triple recommending it to everyone.

I can't remember where I read/watched it, but I vaguely recall him mentioning that it's harder to do the Biellmann now that he's older. He had plans to do the Biellmann in Origin when he skated it at CoR 2018, because it was one of Plushenko's signature moves and he was performing Origin in Russia; he said he had even practiced it at TCC with the spin coach, but then injury happened during practice at CoR and they decided against it.

I use CDJapan’s proxy service. I only ordered a couple of days ago, so I’m not sure if there’ll be an issue. Usually they email me if there is, but so far so good.
-
Didn't his mom use to make his costumes? I bet between Satomi, Mama Hanyu, Zoom calls, and postal service, they can get him new costumes.

Couldn't they also do it at a Challenger competition like ACI? I imagine our men, pairs, and ice dance teams that are likely to be selected for the Olympic shouldn't have issues achieving the minimum TES anyways. And we'll at least have Keegan, who competed at SkAm this season? In Yuzu-related notes, if anyone is looking to pre-order the Be the Light photobook, CDJapan has it up for preorder. This post has been tagged by yuzuangel as [NEWS].

I pre-ordered Yaguchi's photobook from Amazon JP and had no issues with it at all. I also have the Olympics edition of the Ice Jewels Photobook, which is A3 size (so same as this new one) and had no issues from Amazon JP. I did have an issue pre-ordering the latest Ice Jewels Season Photobook - I remember that one wasn't available to be shipped internationally for awhile, but they did eventually work it out for pre-order. So hopefully, the same will happen with this one.
-
Thank you! I was just about to ask if anyone knew how to pre-order it. I see it on Amazon.JP but it says not deliverable to outside Japan. I hope they make it available to us international fans! Even though I don't know if it'll fit on my bookshelf!

I think not necessarily if he chooses his time wisely. But you know....don't pick shortly after Worlds when oversea fans might make a stop in Toronto, don't pick weekends when more people might go, etc. Like someone else said, the ROM is pretty quiet during certain hours of the weekdays. And most people in Toronto wouldn't know who he is - I'm certain he can waltz into my office building and no one would look twice. Plus I think fans who actually live in Toronto have like....jobs or classes or actual things to do rather than stalk an exhibition where he may or may not show up. I do hope he manages to see it too though. It sounds like something he would enjoy.

Someone I chatted with once likened it to a relationship with your dad vs your cool uncle. Yuzu was put under Brian's care when he was 17 (a kid), and I recall in some very old interviews/documentaries, he had once said that Brian was in charge of his entire training regime - what to do when, etc. and Brian called all the shots. In comparison, it sounds like Ghislain's first care of Yuzu was in 2014, and we know it's only around 2016 that they started working very closely together. By then, Yuzu was more independent in making his own choices regarding his training and had ideas of his own to share. Plus, he and Ghislain are apparently a match made in nerdy jump biomechanics heaven. So, I think Brian feels more like an authority figure, vs. Ghislain feels like that teddy bear friend you call to bail you out of trouble. I don't think one is a better or closer relationship than the other; they're just different relationships and hold a different significance in Yuzu's life, just like you wouldn't say your relationship with your dad is better or worse than your favourite uncle; it's just not the same dynamic, that's all.
