It's been five years to the day since I first laid eyes upon Yuzu in person, during the men's practice at ACI 2018. I remember how excited I felt, and nervous - even though I was only sitting in the stands to watch a guy skate! My heart was pounding, I was breathing so fast, my head felt light and dizzy - and I thought to myself " now I get why girls fainted for Elvis Presley, why people swooned for the Beatles" - and then he appeared! "Oh my God, he's real! He's really real!" - those were my exact words, posted at the time on this very forum 😅. And from that day to this, I've never gotten over that feeling. Yuzu is real. But he does have to get 3 weeks of basic military training at some point, according to K-Army on Twitter. It just won't be right now. Near as I can figure, the alternative service option is trested as a kind of military reserves/ public works labour supply - they get similar training. Turned my stomach to read that conscientious objectors who do alternative service are required to spend 3 years as prison guards. (As opposed to being jailed for 18 months for refusing to serve). SK might be a democracy in name but there's still plenty of traces of the pre-1980s military dictatorship thinking lurking there. Anyway, the supplemental service covers a lot of ground- everything from municipal government clerks to public sanitation, subway station staff to caring for severly disabled kids in long term care, from what I can tell. It also includes the intelligence service. Just imagine Yoongi as a spy! 😄

At the time of his surgery, he said in one of his lives that the goal was to be able to be fully fit for service, and he's been moving so freely since he recovered, that it was easy to assume he achieved that. I didn't even think of the backpack thing. Yoongi might be fit enough to carry a gun but he probably couldn't carry all the other stuff. I watched this from the stands... absolutely a hilarious moment and it perfectly showed how playful and fun Kaori is! Also, if you're trying to get caught up on ACI, save time and only watch the final group of the women's Free Skate - they were amazing! And Kaiya Ruiter nailed it perfectly - not bad for her first senior competition!

It worked! He landed everything, was very beguiling to watch in person. He was underscored though. He and Stephen skated about the same, imo.

Am.in the rink at ACI, halfway through the Men's SP... so far Sota broke my heart and young Nikolaj Memola has impressed me. Most of the fans seem to be here for Boyang Praying he has a trouble-free skate
