  1. I hope Yuzu never, ever, ever goes into politics of any kind, whether government or skating-related, like taking over being an ISU representative or taking over working for the JSF. He's got too much integrity and kindness, and it's a world too full of corruption and shadiness at every level. Maybe there are good things he could use his fame and reputation to do, but it wouldn't do anything for him except make him new enemies. Politics brings out the worst in people, and the further people with originally good intentions go in that realm, the more idealism usually gets stripped away from them and the messier the public perception of them gets. I wouldn't want that to happen to him.

I've been continuing my Olympics rewatching by going back to Sochi FS. Just watched Denis Ten's. Now I'm sad. Maybe too sad to be able to  skip ahead and watch Yuzu fall over even though I know he still wins.

Oh my heart </3 Denis was such a beautiful skater. That Frank Carroll magic.

As for talk that maybe Yuzuru isn't able to practise or that he no longer skates at Sendai rink - I think it's more likely that either he's being very discreet about skating at the moment or he's trying to set a good example as a public figure. If he was seen going to and from the rink while there are such heavy restrictions on the general public it would be a bad look for him - even if he's not breaking any rules. I just don't think it would be perceived well even if it could be explained and justified.

I think Ice Rink Sendai has been closed altogether under the latest Japan-wide restrictions. So no matter where he is, he isn't skating at all at the moment. Unless he's staying at Keegan's house or did a Karen Chen and filled his house with artificial ice tiles, which I don't put past him 😆

  3. Which warhorses do you think need to be brought back and sparkled up into a Yuzu program?

For the sake of that climax alone, let's turn the Pas de Deux into a dramatic SP!

A few Nutcracker tracks cut together would also make an excellent free program. Some parts are light and playful, some parts are dramatic, some parts are romantic. Just go for the less overtly Christmas-sounding or little kid ballet class parts. (Or don't. If you want to go full HAPPY MERRY CHRISTMAS for a season, who's stopping you? Not I! I'm not going to pretend I wouldn't want to see Yuzuru Hanyu wilding out to the Trepak. :D)

  4. HI, LURKING ZUZURA! Skate to a cello piece! This would make a graceful, wistful lullaby of an exhibition program. Once again, listen all the way through with your favourite classical headphones.

Been thinking about why Yuzu's message seems to have a deeper impact than so many of the others who have been using social media to talk to and encourage fans (well, besides the obvious fact that we get to see him so rarely on it :))

Without criticising the other sports stars, their messages have been - as social media tends to be - "this is what I'm doing now," as well as words to encourage fans. Which is great (I looooved Jason skipping on skates).  Yuzu however.... a blank wall, plain outfit, serious demeanour, a carefully thought out little talk directly to his listeners and about them, covering those who have to stay home, those who have to work to overcome the crisis, and those who are already ill and suffering (the elderly fans especially - the grannies and grandads he has spoken to in countless fundraising clips - who may be isolated and must be so frightened at the minute can hear that he is thinking of them too) and just touching on 3/11 to bring in that fellow feeling and that lovely image of the darkness and the stars.

Nothing about "me" to detract from "us" and especially "you". In this me-hungry world, he really is something special...

All of this, and (speaking of the huge impact his message had on social media and in the news in a short time) also that Yuzu seems like a go-to person and an emotional anchor when something catastrophic happens in his country. He's a public figure that people instinctively turn to for reassurance, and want to hear from, because of the resilience he's personally shown in dark and certain circumstances, as well as the outreach he has done for disaster relief. Every summer we get essentially a mini-documentary showing his warmth and empathy towards people who are experiencing hard times, and how he is able to give them strength. If I were Japanese and living through difficult circumstances, I would be waiting for Yuzuru Hanyu's message and I would get a lot of comfort from it. I mean, I'm not Japanese and I was still waiting for it.

Floor-chan: ___(♡⌂♡)___ Y-Yuzu-kun! We have been spending so much more time together lately but I.....I had no idea.....you truly felt this way.....the same way I do..... ///BLUSH///

    Ice-chan, distantly: Yuzu? Yuzu-kun? (°͈▵°͈)

Yuzuru: Floor-chan.....you have been there for me.....at a time when no one else could be. Not even Ice-chan. Ice-chan seems.....like a lovely but distant memory.

IF 2020-2021 season will not push thru, the new programs will be for... dun...dun...dun... BEIJING!

I was thinking about how, just like Yuzu's whole life so far, a series of calamities and misfortunes largely out of his control is making him grow as a person and an athlete, and is leading him on a path towards the Olympics. The path is not smooth, but the cycle repeats - something painful always holds him back, and he needs to break through, and he learns something important in the process, and he gets better, and it all leads up to an Olympic Games.

2018-2019: What did we learn this season, Yuzu? To train safe. To go back to thinking like a war strategist. That just enjoying yourself isn't going to be enough in the current FS climate. That judges aren't going to do you any favours, and nothing has changed in that respect with another Olympic gold.

Personal goals not achieved, need to keep competing.

2019-2020: What did we learn this season, Yuzu? To skate from your own heart, not for anyone else. Not to keep pushing something if it doesn't feel right. That training smarter and trying new strategies can work better than exhausting yourself. That perfection is your only weapon now. That sometimes, perfection isn't even good enough, and there's nothing you can do, so just keep being you and aiming for excellence.

Personal goals not achieved, need to keep competing.

2020-2021: What will we probably learn this off-season and season, Yuzu? Patience. That rest and self-care are important. New off-ice training strategies. That whether your programs are new or recycled, people will still find something to pre-emptively complain about and then will complain even more when you make your choices, so just do what works for you.

Personal goals not achieved, need to keep competing.

    Personal goals achieved, can stop.

TCC skaters: "Yes, coach." *puts on blade covers, goes over to a wall, silently screams and dances aggressively at it for 3 minutes*

Those are not great pictures of 1 and 3 and a particularly good picture of 2. But my favourite is 6.

It was such a Yuzu thing to create a special hairstyle just to be used for Olympic Seimei Day a.k.a. My Second Olympic Gold Medal Day and no other day in his life. I don't think his bangs were ever styled *exactly* like that before or since, even for other Seimeis. Decades from now you could see a picture of him from the neck up with that hair and you would know exactly what the date was. :68468287:

GUYS HELP. What are some iconic photos of Yuzu in costume that aren't tall and thin? I'm trying to make keychains and stickers! From some art that I'm literally learning to do digital drawing for just for this haha. But the tall and thin photos of Yuzu aren't space-efficient on acrylic keychains and cutout stickers.

For reference, here are two that I've drawn. the Swan one is much more space-efficient than the otonal one xD

  11. I really enjoy that there are so many Yuzuversaries.....

To pass the time we should make up some more things to commemorate. Suggestions for the upcoming months:

    • 5th anniversary of the first (only) documented 4Lo-3A (April 19)
    • 1st anniversary of the day he did a somersault off-stage at FaOI
    • 1st Anniversary of the premiere of Masquerade (May 24)
    • 1st Anniversary of the time he trolled the whole arena who thought they were getting Masquerade by premiering Crystal Memories instead (May 25)
    • 1st Anniversary of the Welcome Back Quad Lutz (June 7-8?)
    • 2nd Anniversary of the Pooh ears headband struggle (a.k.a. Poohzuversary)

    Satomi's talent is incredible.

Of all the costumes she's made, I was most blown away by the close-ups of Requiem when I first saw them, though Requiem has never been one of my favourites. The workmanship and creativity that went into making beads and embroidery resemble seafoam and ocean waves is amazing. Like Origin 1.0, I don't think the real beauty of it completely comes through in action shots because it's just so detailed.

Actually, while looking at the MOI footgae of him tossing stuffies into the crowd, the thought occurred to me that he has a pretty good arm. He'd have been a great baseball player, I'm sure.

So, question, to get us through this long, lonely drought: Bearing in mind that our chaos lord boy has done things like wait til his coaches' backs are turned to try 4A in public, and so on, what is the most Yuzu-like thing you've ever done?

Kurt Browning once commented that he played catch with Yuzu and Yuzu had quite an arm on him because of his dad's baseball experience (he was surprised!).

The most Yuzu-like thing I've ever done: uhhhhh, I admit, I had mushroom hair in elementary school because I saw someone else who had it and wanted it the same. (It wasn't Plushenko.) I also earlier today stuffed a lot of milk chocolate in my mouth. Otherwise I am totally unlike the Chaos Lord.

No, she specifically said Chopin. After all, she said about it at the beginning of its second season "I haven't had enough of it". And I'm sure she's seen 4CC Chopin too, her mentioning it wasn't accidental. And her giving Yuzu Swan music after what she said about Plisetskaya just gives it a new meaning. She loved NS, too. I remember how she said proudly during the Pyeoungchan ex: "And you know who gave him this music?" (Judging by the reaction of the other commentator, it wasn't even the first time she mentioned that :D)

I would like to know what other music she's given him.....

  15. The funny but also lovely thing about TAT's comments (and Yuzu's skating) is, depending on when the interview happened (because she doesn't talk specifically about the cancellation so it might have been earlier, and just released now) she could be talking about Chopin or talking about Otonal, and it would still be accurate either way. We know she was on her feet for Otonal, though not on her knees, because then she wouldn't have been able to see it as well.

    it was always on vimeo

I've never seen this before. Wow. Wow. I like the layout better with a 4S (flows better), but that's a 113+ program, done in the spring on an ice show rink.....

I see now why Brian said he was ready for the Olympics by the summer and was concerned that it was too early.

  17. 17 minutes ago, rockstaryuzu said:

I know. And they showed all the ice dancers. Not sure what happened but :(

Maybe it was a last-minute edit based on the engagement and numbers on their Yuzu interview. Make the men's replay an EVENT. Separate day, Hanyu-heavy advertising, throw in a Sochi replay with dramatic Patrick vs. Yuzu showdown feat. shady Chiddy interview soundbites, include all the short programs for good measure, re-run every CBC post-skate interview Yuzu has ever done, and get Tracy on video chat for an exclusive. /wishfulthinking

  18. 3 minutes ago, rockstaryuzu said:

I think it's the latter. So that's probably why they gave the interview the air time...because at least Yuzu still.has a Canadian connection.

I wanted to watch Olympic Seimei again...:tumblr_inline_n2pjd2atId1qdlkyg:

But they must have had an editing error, because right before the interview they said they would air the competition. So now I'm pouting.

I watched to the beginning of pairs and then stopped.....no men? Very strange. I thought at least they would show Patrick, especially since they even took the time to show Gabby's disaster skate, which seemed a bit cruel. :(

  19. For anybody who gets the CBC, they're doing a 3-hour replay of 2018 Olympic figure skating (not specified which events but I imagine Yuzu's programs will be shown if they're doing highlights) this Saturday from 3 pm to 6 pm Eastern, to replace the Worlds coverage that was supposed to go there, I imagine.

It isn't as if you can't just watch the programs you like online any time, but there's something fun about it airing on TV, for Muggle family members to be forced to witness and be converted. :D
