  1. I'm proud of him. It's a big step to take after the long long career he's had, but he seems resolute and excited about the future. I was very happy to hear (read translations...) him talk about taking care of himself the way others have always cared for him. Now he won't be held back anymore and his horizons are truly limitless, and he can do what he wants without all the emotional pressure and disappointment that affected his mental health. I'm so eager to see what he does next! Thanks, kid :devilYuzu:

What are some of the best competitions to watch in which Yuzu participated?

I've watched all of his programs at all competitions on their own. I'd like to go and see the full competitions that had some of the best fights, competitions which were sort of unpredictable.

I've just started watching the 2018 Olympics SP in full, so PyeongChang is already covered.

The 2017 Worlds free skate for sure!

  3. A student of Mishin lands a clean fully rotated 4A at least 2-3 years ago, and is still capable of it or very close, and they have proof of it on camera to show anybody.

There is never any hint about this monumental, first-time-in-history achievement happening, from one of the most gossipy, leaky, bragging skating communities in the world.

When Yuzuru starts talking about his 4A quest for several years, and makes attempts in public from 2019 onward, not one single person makes a peep about "Well, he can try, but did you know Artur Dmitriev already--!"

Mishin himself, instead of saying "I think the 4A is surely possible..." or "certain skaters are getting very close, we shall see..." says that he never expects to see anybody land a 4A in his lifetime.

But didn't he already see the skater he advises doing it, more than once? If he wasn't there at the time, or Artur was training elsewhere, wouldn't he show Mishin the video? Or both Dmitrievs were keeping it as a big surprise from the honoured coach, as well as from all of Russian skating?

Or was Dmitriev Sr. being sneaky with his words: the "clean landings" he has on video, and the "fully rotated" attempts, were in fact two different things? :dontknow:

    Who knows? :D

  4. Of all the good things, best part about this weekend has been seeing Yuzu truly happy for the first time, in what feels like a long time. He really smiled with his eyes when he saw his results. Last year he only looked relieved at best, he was under so much stress and worried about the world. I wonder if just attempting the 4A, even if he knew he wouldn't get it, has lifted a burden of sorts from his shoulders. He has taken the first step and it's not hanging so heavily over him any more.

  5. Yuzu's birthday is over in Japan.....but not in Canada yet :D

Happy birthday and thank you for inspiring us all, through good times and bad. May Ice-chan treat you sweetly and help you achieve everything you aim for. :smiley-love017:

  6. I had some fun making costumes for the new program. Which means, pasting pieces of gowns from the runway onto him and moving them around :D

I'm thinking of dark colours. These ones are purple and red. Dark green could look nice, too.

Pardon, but if this isn't said in pamphlet, then there is no way I will believe in more rumours.

This person said it was from another page of the pamphlet where there's an interview with Yuzu. We'll have to wait and see if someone will post a photo of it, but it doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility.

  8. Every time Sasha fails to land a 3A, the Russian federation realizes that they need Liza for the Olympic team event, so her scores are skyrocketing. They need someone with reliable 3A for the short program. There's nothing Anna can do which Sasha and Kamila can't do more of, so the Olympic place that might have had Anna's name on it 1-2 years ago will be given to Liza. With Liza there's still even the big possibility of a podium sweep.

The article is based on a prediction by Gracenote. Predict what they predicted at the end of January 2018.

    https://www.japantimes.co.jp/sports/2018/01/31/olympics/winter-olympics/japan-projected-win-two-gold-medals-pyeongchang-olympics-downgrade-analysts/

      Hide contents

"PYEONGCHANG, SOUTH KOREA – Analysts downgraded Japan’s Pyeongchang Olympics medal projection from 15 to 14 on Tuesday, while lowering the nation’s gold medal haul from four to two.

According to sports analytics firm Gracenote’s latest virtual medal table, Japan’s figure skating prospects have taken a hit since it was last released on Jan. 10. Expected gold medals in men’s figure skating for Yuzuru Hanyu and team figure skating have now been switched to silver.

The firm now projects Spain’s Javier Fernandez to win the men’s event. The team event is now expected to go to Russian skaters, who have passed strict screening to compete despite their national Olympic committee being banned for doping violations.

In addition to leading the Olympic Athletes from Russia to team gold, Evegenia Medvedeva is projected to win the women’s gold.

Gracenote still sees Japan winning two speed skating gold medals in the women’s 500 meters through Nao Kodaira and women’s team pursuit."

Wha-- this "sports analytics firm" originally predicted.....a TEAM GOLD for JAPAN in PYEONGCHANG and then downgraded to a silver? A silver for the TEAM event? In PYEONGCHANG? For JAPAN? And their predictions are still being published by legitimate news organizations?

  10. I don't think either of Anna's programs are well-suited this year :( The free has potential, but not for an Olympic season.....neither choice of music seems like it will connect well emotionally with audiences or judges.

Maiia, I am more impressed by. She seems to be genuinely enjoying herself at times and her programs are better than the Gleikh fare. But the Rippon arms on every jump are concerning.

To be honest I don't like thinking about Beijing because I never know if I should think optimistically or realistically. Either way both scenarios leave a bitter taste in my mouth knowing that if Yuzuru does try for a third Olympic gold he will get SEVERLY underscored and God am I not emotionally stable enough to see that happening for the 2583th time.

If this makes anyone feel any better about this God forsaken season, there is a Russian YouTube channel called 'Sport Tarot' which basically does tarot card readings for athletes of different sports. Many of you might not believe in that stuff but I find it pretty intresting and I somewhat believe in it too. The "tarot lady" as some of us call her, has done a reading for Yuzuru. I don't remember too many exact details but all of his cards were pretty good. Meanwhile, another skater's cards... didn't seem so good. Apparently her readings have been scarily accurate in a lot of cases so I'm betting my sanity on this lady right now.

I watched this and it was fun! The question was: "who will dominate in the upcoming season, Yuzuru or Nathan?" Then for Yuzu she proceeded to pull: A man on a throne (The Emperor).....a man on a throne (The King of Swords).....and a man on a throne (The King of Wands). :darklordyuzu:

The Emperor: authority, wisdom, expertise, organization, orderly and systematic approach to solving problems

The King of Swords: authority, insight, mental clarity and intellectual power unaffected by emotion, impartiality

The King of Wands: authority, vision, energy, clear long-term goals, decisiveness, enjoying challenges

And while she was shuffling, just as she said his name a card with a winged being on it sprang out of the deck: Temperance (balance and harmony in life, balance between masculine and feminine, patience, remaining calm under stress, long-term vision). That one didn't count but I think it should

So, if you believe in tarot.....it sounds as though Boss Yuzu will be enthusiastically tackling a big challenge in a systematic and emotionally balanced fashion, while thinking with a clear head about his long-term goals. :D

Me TOOOOO :heartpound: , i love verry well to hear that beautiful music ( il like also the ballet " swan lake or lac des cygnes ) and also be back on a SP YES and it's not OLD : past and now , no difference ( directly writte in English , sorry for the fault )

It's OK, your English is good! I'll try to practice my French by responding en francais, sorry my keyboard doesn't make accents. :D

    Spoiler

It's perfect music for an Olympics, imo.....it's Japanese, but the Swan Lake theme is super recognizable to North American and European judges and audiences. There's no excuse for them to be lazy and go "I can't understand or appreciate this because it's too Japanese for me," like with Tenchi. :P

Also, it's dramatic, and as we all know adult Yuzu loves being dramatic (on the ice) as much as teenager Yuzu did. xD

  13. Thinking.....I would not hate it, at all, if Yuzu brought White Legend back as a SP with the revised choreography. Of all the music he's ever performed to in his career, it's one of the pieces I think suits him the best and never gets old.

  14. I was impressed by the guy from India! No falls, a rotated double, centred spins with nice fast entries, can get into pleasing camel and sit positions. This is probably a skater who trains outdoors on rollerskates, and comes to a competition knowing he'll be in last place by 40 points and some people will laugh at him, but.....that was the state of China's pairs program just a generation ago, and look at them. :)
