  1. I cannot argue for twitter excessive use of snarkiness, because it gets tiring if you don't share the humor, but there are many reasons why a full third of the fandom behaves this way on the platform. will put some theories hidden. I don't like twitter drama and how some accs insist in participating in it, so I mute people like OP sometimes. But there has been a lot, A LOT, of provocation recently against fanyus, so navigating it during this period has been hard and it might get worse on the aftermath of Worlds. Good luck on twitter, it can be fun, it's manageable, but there's caution to be exercised.
  2. For the veterans who have been buying magazines and kept an eye on the quality, what publications are you prioritising now with Beijing pics? I'm tempted in pre-ordering the anan one on amazon, but maybe I should focus on Figure Skate (not the Life one) instead...
  3. new interview with Ghislain being published, and apparently a newer insight into the 4A. So Yuzu has landed it at least once with video proof. Exciting! Now we wait to see what he decides to do. Exciting! This post has been tagged by yuzuangel as [NEWS].
  4. Seeing this made me appreciate his press con a little bit more even, because before the questions started he asked to speak and put it clearly that: He was happy for NC and that his unluckiness with the ice was not the fault of the rink workers. He is very aware of how his fans (and the media) behaves, so I (and the Chinese workers, especially) appreciate his effort in redirecting frustration away from the people who made the event. Sounding very dramatic, but I try to emulate this, remembering that despite it all you still have the power to be gentler to those who will bear the brunt. Anyway, back to my Yuzu hole~
  5. JSF really making Yuzu work for Sapporo’s bid nice to see him 🥰 ”I want to participate in the Olympics if it’s in Sapporo”, Yuzu please… This post has been tagged by yuzuangel as [NEWS].
  6. Wait, there's a book about Tsuzuki sensei? Was it released 2 years ago? Why Mishin was being interviewed? LMAO
  7. The “spotted” got me worried for a hot second, because I just came back from twitter and saw someone sharing a picture that it was clearly taken without his consent in Toronto 😬… there’s a portion of newer fanyus that refuse to respect him, and I’m not sure how to deal with it, and they are mostly very young. Report the tweets? Talk with the person? But speaking of his popularity in China, I wonder if ice shows will happen now (next year?) with him main guesting. I have no idea about ice skating’s standing with the chinese audience, if they happen regularly or at all, but I reckon this is a golden opportunity for their federation if they want to expand popular support.
  8. Axelwithwings team, thank you so much for your work! Like, really thank you. Well. This was hard. Great, great interview. I will bookmark and show this to everyone to explain why I like this athlete so much. Very insightful, very melancholic, eloquent. His answers were much better than the questions (that were quite standard / canned); I really appreciate how he always remember the victims of the Great Earthquake of 2011, how the event shaped who he is and how he meditates on it to guide him thorough. I wish I loved anything as much as he loves skating haha You grew a lot Yuzu.
  9. Yuzu's WD was good news for me, but now in the morning (where I am) I feel so sad lmao I don't want to watch Worlds but I'm curious about Kao's performance, so I will be checking fstwitter for videos and highlights this time. Meanwhile, time to dig through all archives in this site and manage self-control because these magazines look amazing, I might be getting at least 2 to cope. Thanks for this site everyone, so organised! Also, about axelwing full transcript and translation of the press con; I mean, we all know this, we love the man, but dear Lord, how thoughtful he is as an athlete.
  10. Good to know I'm not only one who revisited PC18 and Sochi today (Although Seimei 2015 was skated better, 2018 is such a treat, he is soooooooo happy). Thank you for posting the interview @eren, and thank you so much for your guides @Henni147!! When I first came to know FS I used to watch a lot of Yuna and Mao's video guides because their technique were top notch, then V/M, but I only took an interest in Yuzu around 2014 and I remember how difficult and sloppy Men's looked (the new blood always pushing for jumps!), although we used to argue that mistakes were not called as often and GOEs were very generous... then Yuzu perfected everything and he became THE textbook. Beautiful to watch, I noticed while rewatching his stuff today that I'm always looking at his feet lol I talked with my friend from Japan this weekend and asked her about the coverage of the Olys, and she confirmed my suspicion that people didn't seem particularly engaged with the event this time. She said people at work were hyped for the women curling team and Yuzu is already a household name regardless, but she didn't see much coverage of anything else. Anyone else in Japan can confirm or deny this (since we are both pretty biased lol)? Both a shame (bc Olys are supposed to be a great time) but also, lmao, schadenfreude, if it's true.
  11. I know this is a Yuzu space, but I just wanted to briefly gush over Boyang and the amount of happiness it gave that he seemed to enjoy himself in these Olympics. Programs aside, I always had a soft for him as a skater (first to land 4ltz on competition if I'm not mistaken, right?), and I'm very glad about the attention he received from fanyus around the globe. He was a great ambassador for the sport and a good host this Olys. Back to Yuzu, I'm loving people sharing his old dancing videos again, he is such a great performer. Like, a proper dancer? He is very well rounded, people refuse to see that's why his fans flock to him. This is the most difficult / emotionally charged post-olys pre-worlds period we have since 2014 right?
  12. Seeing the 4A like this made me a little bit more heartbroken about the Olys I try to remember that lots of athletes don’t perform as well in Olys for one reason or another, and figure skating has a lot of stories like this. The rotations are there, is getting the height that seems to be the key issue now. Who said he tried to do quints on a harness some years ago? If this guy releases a video like this of a quint this whole fandom will have a meltdown (paraphrasing someone else lol).
  13. Edit: removed the twitter link because @Yuzurella already posted! Pchiddy in infamous for having no filters, so this is really appreciated. He did say Yuzu was the one to land the 4A, back in 2018 right?
  14. LMAO, I said I was not going to mention it anymore, but someone on his team pleeeeeease take his phone away! Just tell him to log off! Oh, we need that salty + rant chat for sure
  15. For the positivity: Is everyone in agreement that he is skating better these days? His technique is much cleaner, very beautiful to watch. Also, bless this program and his muscle memories! for the (very) negativity:
  16. This whole Javi situation is so embarrassing, my word lol he should HAVE NOT addressed the mob, it keeps the subject going and emboldens the trolls. That’s one thing I will give to our east asian athletes (because I feel like the chinese get this as well), they are all very aware of internet and media narratives and how it affects them. They thread carefully. Is a terrible world, shouldn’t be like this, but I appreciate their savvy, even if some slip once in a while. Yuzu not having socials is the best decision him and his family have made for themselves. incoming negative rant.
  17. I’m struggling to articulate myself, but I will try: were many surprised about his standing and fame at the world stage? Because the flabbergasted tone I’ve been reading these past weeks seem to indicate so. Although I do understand that it seems weird that an athlete of a smaller sport would have this event without a retirement announcement after “losing”. Yuzu’s press conference reminded me of big sports; clubs and big names generally have to give statements after a game regardless. I know people say fanyus are delusional, but I’m convinced he is bigger than the sport / fs. Hiding some negativity: thank you for posting it!
  18. Y’all convincing me to buy the diary / planner, noooooooo
  19. I phrased it awkwardly (just like Ando, irony at its finest lol), but just to drive the point they always pointed it out how much out of the group he is, “independent” and etc. It’s a common joke about his personality, I remember that there is a japanese term for it, is even a anime trope
  20. My Spanish is from South America so I'm missing nuance, and is not my native language so I will wait for a full translation from someone else, but this is what he talks about in full context: Nathan had a perfect program and someone needed to skate perfectly to beat it, talks about what went wrong with Yuzu - the phrasing about the hole and etc is all awkward, he uses the skates to demonstrate - then later someone asks him if is normal for a skater to receive that many gifts - he says no, only Yuzu was like this since their training days, mentions his fans and comments the gifts were really nice even (he mentions they were expensive). His comments about the hole are still the same I reckon, but now we have the full context. Edit: Just saw now that @Hanmgse translated!
  21. Apart from politics, I really think is a philosophy thing. Yuzu is too "individualistic", you can see it in his answers to the media / press, he is always reinforcing how important it is for skaters to "find their uniqueness", "express their individuality". He is independent, and although we praise how diplomatic and articulate he is, he is also very honest. He owns absolutely nothing to them, they have no leverage, so they cannot share in his success in a way. I will never forget Ando implying he is kind of a narcissist (more like self centred person), because he does his own thing in his own pace. And I will be blunt, they are also kinda stupid. Other federations would have capitalised HARD on his success and use it to propel their skating programs, probably to the athlete's detriment, but JSF is way too proud for it. And they have made no efforts to correct this path they chose to take right in the beginning so the relationship just grows sour; these days you will not even see Yuzu initiating good will interactions with other skaters anymore, which is just a shame. JSF is such a mess that they lowball their own ladies, is weird. The man is a lighting in a bottle phenomenon and they are missing out on it, we all agree. We could've been watching the seeds of a spiritual sucessor by now, but nope, they had to push him out. It makes me sad for Yuzu because I feel like he would love to help nurture younger skaters that could continue Japan's standing in the sport.
  22. Oh wow, it does. After his injury I didn't keep much with Japanese media, but of course, it contextualises the stupid underscoring and isolation very clearly. People say fanyus are hyperbolic but well. Audiences stick with a sport because of loyalty to an athlete, personality or a club (via tradition), I have no idea how they can be as blind as they are. Anyway!
  23. Thanks everyone On the topic of that person's opinion piece: Is anyone aware of Ice Skating popularity in China? I reckon this might be their organisation's push to start putting up some shows and testing the audiences next couple of years, sure Yuzu could go for the first ones.
  24. I'm so interested in Yuzu's reception in China, I dunno why I didn't expect it at all. Back in Pyeongchang we saw how popular he was, but Beijing was a whole other level I feel like - or maybe I'm a victim of the Mandela effect and don't remember correctly? hahaha I know Korea has their own skaters to focus and promote now, so maybe my comparisons are out of touch. I think Team China (and the Chinese media in general) played the host part pretty well, they know his value, so although I'm not deluded in thinking everything is "pure friendship" I appreciate the effort they put. Have 0 idea how this affects his standing in Japan and with the JSF tho. (btw, first time poster, very long time lurker, I think I started following this forum back in 2017 lmao, to have a another place to go apart from gs).
