Yatagarasu is the Shinto Crow God, whose appearance is evidence of divine intervention. So crows probably have meaning for Yuzu. Imagine him dressed like Brandon Lee in the movie The Crow (which was based on such Asian myths of divine intervention) skating to the first song on the soundtrack with the vocals stripped out. Listen, and I think you'll feel it:

Toronto is a 10 hour drive for me and I have never visited Niagara Falls. Isn't that just the most wonderful excuse to plan a trip to see the Autumn Classic? [Admin edit] I just booked a room at a hotel that (at least through Expedia) will allow me to cancel for free and pay AT the hotel. Seems a reasonable precaution, in case tickets fall through. Google Maps says it's only 12 minutes away from the complex. In case anyone else is interested, here's the hotel info: https://www.expedia.com/Toronto-Hotels-Holiday-Inn-Hotel-Suites-Oakville-Bronte.h424378.Hotel-Information?chkin=9%2F19%2F2018&chkout=9%2F23%2F2018&rm1=a1&hwrqCacheKey=4f269a80-8833-422e-87bb-1deac8b8010fHWRQ1525920680900&cancellable=false®ionId=9236&vip=false&c=a0b7bc43-764b-4a7c-a2cb-4399f95d1c50&&exp_dp=139.24&exp_ts=1525920680851&exp_curr=USD&swpToggleOn=false&exp_pg=HSR

SportyMags with another great post: https://sportymags.wordpress.com/2018/05/07/fs-season-x-the-medvedeva-files/

Stop! You're making me piss my pants! "competitive wetsuit!" What a perfect description! Yeah, but the gradient colors Yuzu has on his floppy sleeves, combined with gems and..Yuzu... somehow makes it okay... on him...
-
Yeah, but he said stsq choreo was part of his rehab at CiONTU; maybe the next part is triples at FaOI. Then maybe low difficulty quads at Heroes. He'll be back at TCC after that, so he'll be ready to rumble.

!!! Now you're REALLY making me feel old! Yeah, wouldn't it have been nice to grow up in a time when youthful fashion didn't make you want to retch?! Remember the giant orange, yellow, and puke green flowers they draped walls and people and couches and floors and cars in?! I barely survived. I did it by rebelling into alternative rock, dressing in black and purple, and immersing myself in books so I didn't have to look around. If there had been a Yuzu back then... wow. Yeah, I'm jealous of today's youth for that, but we DID have David Bowie, and he was fucking beautiful -- even if he DID sometimes wear flowery orange and green bell-bottoms (sticks her finger down her throat.)

I know everyone's worried about his health, but he has truly become an adult. This last injury and the philosophy he's developed because of it -- steady recovery -- do what you can -- accept what you can't do -- is making him into a genuinely wise man, slowly but surely. If he thinks he can do it, I trust his judgement now. And we've seen the restraint he can exercise. He didn't jump ONCE in CiONTU, and he knows now that people admire his beautiful skating even WITHOUT the jumps. He will only do jumps at these shows that he KNOWS he can do safely. ALSO: OMG, freaking out!!! What a kind and thoughtful young man!!! Seven shows!!! He knows the world needs more beauty, to make up for the atrocious ugliness all around us. Thank you!!! Thank you!!! Thank you, Yuzu!!!

To me, Yuzu is just a little boy. I haze ZERO romantic interest in him and I'm completely uninterested in him sexually. I have no fantasies about him; in fact, at my age, that would seem creepy... AND YET... even i can't stop looking at him. He is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen, even when he's standing still; but put him on the ice and I'm... crying just THINKING of him on the ice... I mean literally - tears are pouring down my face right now... can't finish this thought...
-
I HAVE seen it, which why I was convinced it was the dirty, wet gloves. I've also seen more than one guy treat Yuzu that way. I never noticed any of this until someone here mentioned it, now I can't NOT see it.
-
Hmm... maybe. Although he definitely isn't the only one. It seems to be a habit amongst figure skaters... maybe back to my original supposition that it's about manners. Hmm... but it's definitely not just Asian skaters who use "manner hands" (I LOVE your term for it, and no matter the reason, I'm never calling it anything other than "manner hands.") I suppose it's possible that, because the sport is being taken over by Asians, Asian manners may have become the norm???

Someone here noticed, a while back, that Yuzu never seems to actually touch women when he puts his hand around their backs for photos. They wondered why. At first, I thought it might be that he felt it was rude to actually touch a woman he doesn't know so well, but this got me watching ALL the skaters behavior in this regard, and it turns out to be very common for the men not to touch the ladies. But it's also not only women who aren't touched. Noticing that the men who aren't touched are normally wearing fancy costumes, I think I've solved this mystery. These costumes cost many thousands of dollars each, and are covered in gems and sequins -- especially the ladies costumes. I think most figure skaters are cognizant of this and do their best not to damage each other's costumes. Since Yuzu also touches the ice for a long time when he hydroblades, I think it may be particularly important to him not to touch any expensive costumes with his dirty wet gloves.

I definitely disagree. Maybe the fact that all his clothes are more form-fitted now hides it, but his thighs, buttocks, and pecs have more definition, not less -- and that comes from working out, not wasting away. He also said that he was working out the whole time, building his muscles and strengthening his core. In fact he said it was actually fortunate that he had the injury, since it forced him to work on training issues he had let slip. There are plenty of exercises that built muscle without having to put strain on your feet.

Oh! I just saw this. Made me curious about "white soup nabe with pork," so I looked it up and found this recipe with a very interesting ingredient: https://www.japancentre.com/en/recipes/1073-cabbage-pork-nabe-hot-pot Notice one of the ingredients is "Yuzu Peel." I wonder if Japanese folks think fondly of Yuzu while they're eating their Yuzu's. https://mesubim.com/2015/12/22/yuzu-peel-yuzunone/ I was perplexed by Phil's question too, since Yuzu had clearly increased his body mass, then I realized why Hersh was fooled. The way Yuzu's muscles "bulked up" didn't really add much bulk, but his muscles are definitely more defined, and muscles like that are also more dense, thus heavier. Yuzu's face has also matured, which makes it look a smidge thinner. Basically, Phil was subject to an optical illusion.

Yuzu has dietitians he has to report to; I'm sure it's THEY who want the daily weight. Remember that article that mentioned that they had to stimulate his appetite with warm fluid, otherwise he didn't eat enough? I wonder if the weighing is to make sure he gets enough to eat, rather than to prevent him from getting gaining. Maybe he even thinks he's cheating a bit to weigh himself AFTER he eats.
-
Why not just Yuzu-Sama. I remember someone called him that (scratches head, trying to remember name) and I thought it was cool.
-
Have you guys seen this? The extended recording of Yuzu teaching that class full of kids. Wow!! Yuzuru Hanyu is the best effing babysitter in the history of history. Period.

OH! I'm so sorry I didn't notice this posting before. This is for their on-line channel or at least I assume this is it, since this is all there is and there are links to a bunch of videos. Since OC changes their available videos, I just assume they're making these particular videos available for 48 hours on-line. I had to sign in with my Comcast XFinity account. Here's the link: https://www.olympicchannel.com/en/playback/watch-now-go-figure/

He's finally admitted to himself that he's the greatest. He's far surpassed his own teachers. All of them. He's realizing that it isn't arrogant for him to break new ground. He's really excited about his own skating. And now that he's wearing the crown, he's ready to rule. We should expect him to create new signature moves some day. He's also realized - as have we - that he's a natural showman. He's so engaging that I could listen to him talk and laugh with the crowd for hours and never mind that I don't understand a word he says. He's going to be the Boss - the man other skaters come to get a job. He will be a kind and gentle ruler - His Majesty, the Benevolent Yuzu. CiONTU

Dare we hope? Drown us, Yuzu!
-
OMG, how are we supposed to like his skating more?! I freaking live for it already! I don't think he's going to stop until I -- an aging woman with sagging skin -- get a full body tattoo of Semei!
-
(Giggles and claps happily) I know, I set alarms in my calendar the moment I saw the announcement. I'm more excited about that than anything else right now. Period. Yuzu was so kind to leave us all this content before he disappears for 3-4 months.
-
I wonder if he's doing all this research because he's trying to design a variation of the quad axle that gives him better control, since control is going to be seriously difficult with 4.5 revolutions at the height and speed he needs to make it possible.
-
The real problem with future talk is, no matter how well we think we know Yuzu, we don't. He might feel pressure from us to do something he doesn't want to do; and pressuring him is the last thing we should do -- that said, I pray fervently every night that he stays healthy and strong so that IF he wants to win a third Olympic Gold, he doesn't have to kill himself to do it. A happy Yuzu is so much better than a distressed one. My favorite Yuzu, these days, is CiONTU Yuzu. I wish I could have been there. It was magic.

Yes, that's not "bashing," it's just stuck in the past.

POSITIVE USA MEDIA COMMENTARY ON YUZU: Scott Hamilton: "Just his presence on the ice says 'I'm really comfortable being recognized as the greatest male skater in the world'...." Tara: "Aahh! Incredible moment! And these are the kind of things that make Yuzuru Hanyu such a well-balanced, complete skater. It's not just the jumps -- which are also incredible -- it's everything in between...." Scott: "Beautiful delayed axle -- a lost art in skating -- followed up by a triple. He's extraordinary...." Tara (at end): "Wow. The first man to win back to back Olympic titles since Dick Button in 1948 and 52; and he's still just 23 years old."
