An article with photographers Mr Tanaka and Mr Nao Noto, who have been shooting Yuzu for quite a while! They talk about their work, about Yuzu and share their work stories. From the exhibition website. There might be a translation soon, but wanted to share for those who wanted to check already ~ This post has been tagged by yuzuangel as [NEWS].

Fluff Yuzu merch in the exhibition

CFanyus delivering amazing content once again ~ We know that Kikuchi is older and might not feel as inclined to travel and work odd schedules as before, but I still miss seeing him by Yuzu’s side. Hope they are reunited right now, he was always such a rock for him. full video in this link: http://xhslink.com/NyowAg … I really missed Yuzu today

I will assume good faith of all information there, and... oh my. Does Geoff has videos of Yuzu... practising quints??? I mean, we know he has been attempting them because of the 4A right? I'm just... I don't know what to say. In the middle of the drought and all. Welcome~ The new influx of people is so wholesome.

The art exhibition event will also have memo pads! Oh how I wish we could purchase it from overseas~ To continue on twitter, Yuzu has been trending on the sports section for the whole day on the worldwide tag and now in the US: from: @elitejean on twitter (I couldn’t post my own screenshot here lol) Earlier his kanji name was trending as well. On the subject of what I would suggest Yuzu to do to get some inspiration: journaling. At least for me it helps me organize my ideas and feelings, put names to some things that get to my heart and swirl my head. I wonder if it can help a performer make sense of their own feelings and organize it in a choreography. It sounds counterintuitive to start writing to get inspiration, but is the “organizing” and “naming” that sheds light in some things for me Happy belated Hope and Legacy anniversary~ Just one more tweet for the night, remember when we saw Yuzu asking the volunteers what program did they wanted to see? Well:

Oh, I have never heard about this podcast, will look into it! These polls are getting more unfair by the day... I'm abstaining on a few, too hard lol Life of a fanyu in drought is a masterclass of self-restraining, because I've been those proxy shipping on cdjapan are looking damn tempting lately (do I need more photobooks tho...) Edit: Adms / staff, the new look of the forum looks really good, I love the color!

hey! You might want to bring some of these questions to the rant thread, since this is a subject that can turn very negative very fast, especially because it requires mentioning overscoring of other athletes. I’m not sure if you’re familiar on how ISU judges are trained or selected, but for the sake of neutrality there’s this interview from 2019 that can give you a quick glimpse in how interconnected the system (feds -> sports management -> international stage) is: For a more critical commentary on the state of things, you can always check Martina’s blog: If you dm me or post something on the rant thread I’m sure more people can offer more resources!

I will admit that I'm probably one of the saltiest here, and that's why some of us came up with the suggestion for a rant thread (that is properly moderated and archived quickly). I think the saltiest complaints should stay there, they will be deleted anyway and having a community to vent and communicate is quite cathartic in a way, especially in sports. I hope I managed to keep most of my rants there and not let most spill over here. Fanyus are bigger than FStwitter at this point, on the internet. If you stay long enough on social media you'll notice that there are literally factions, groups that don't communicate with each other because of some beef / drama, is big enough you can navigate the fandom space without encountering drama or the opposite. The problem is the energy that it takes to curate, mute, and find your own space. However, FS is still a small world. The consistent complaints do get to the people involved, get to the media, changes the mood on how the sport is perceived. So just for that I wouldn't say the complains are useless, at least outside of this forum. Since we are not using spoilers for this, I will just explain a point that might be missing. Some of us see that the system that has hurt and bullied good and great athletes is the exact same one that has benefitted others. Some argue that this is not a zero sum game, but I think is close to one. Is very hard to not perceive the injustice as permeating everything, especially when we had access to Yuzu's own feelings abt his experiences this past quad. ISU benefits from selective outrage, as any sport governing body does btw - ISU is not particularly more corrupt - so some people elect to democratise their outrage across the board, and that doesn't mesh well with fans of the sport who still want to enjoy portions of it. I think it would be a good idea to make the Team Japan, Team Korea, etc., threads more alive, so fans could focus on the athletes without ranting tangents. I saw a lot of fanyus upset on behalf of Jun today, and some coming around on Illia and Yuma (and I literally only follow fanyus), so I know the audience exists. For the sake of someone's question, I'm not new to FS although I'm very new to the forum. I think the sport is in a downward spiral, but I've been feeling like this since Sochi Women's event. This Worlds had done nothing to change my mind, unfortunately, even Kaori's win. The sense of in-sport community that people like Yuzu made an effort in fostering years ago is seemingly lacking. This will probably be my last overtly negative take in this chat. All in all, mute mute, mention your favorites when related to Yuzu without fear, and etc. And vote on Amy's thread on twitter!

This might be the fan in question? supper sweet on her part! He still is in our hearts, hope it reaches him.
-
Yeah. Even avoiding the event you hear abt it if you're on twitter. Very, VERY inflated scores. There's no rulebook to follow I guess. If I was Yuzu I would weight very thoughtfully if competing after the last quad would be worth it at all. However, I'm not him, he is an elite athlete with a drive and ambition that a fan could never share, and I know he is capable of setting his mind on things and achieving it. As a fan, I just wish he announces his retirement happily and without regrets. That he doesn't feel defeated in any way. We shall see.

I’m avoiding Worlds the best I can, but I know user @ 3asupremacy on twitter is there and was posting videos of practice on her tl.

There will be a popular vote poll for the japanese public putting Yuzu against Shohei: Yuzu has always been in the Top 3 of these polls since 2015, which is… unprecedent. Holding figure skating’s popularity against Japan’s darling, baseball. Congrats to both, by all accounts Shohei is a dear, hope he has a good season (I saw that they implemented a newer regulation in the games now, that will benefit players like him a lot. Imagine if ISU worked like this, making sure the sport is benefited from athletes’ well roundness LMAO). Do you have twitter or reddit? I saw people posting there. This post has been tagged by yuzuangel as [NEWS].

Aaaaah, sorry I voted for the Shuzo medal moment instead of the cats I just love being reminded that yuzu has allies and people in his corner lol

This is absolutely amazing, but I’m going to be 100% honest, it concerns me LOL Online spaces can be so volatile, I’m glad the cfanyus are loyal and dedicated so they’re probably aware of all discourse and whatnot going on. What this could show also is how “mainstream” Yuzu is in China. Cfanyus don’t seem to have a big space for themselves, most traffic appears to be coming very topically, average users flocking to the subject without much fandom behavior. Am I reading this right chinese speakers? I was checking weibo and that’s the impression I got reading a few posts! Could be wrong. For my concerns, I know the topic will die down with time. So I will wait it out. FaOI management must ITCHING to re-schedule those shows in Shangai, if I was on PR-Finances I’d be cursing covid like crazy lol This also means JSF cannot ignore him like they intended to do this next quad. The whole thing backfired behe

Since we were talking about PR today; Having pop idols singing you praise for free on variety shows, Yuzu is indeed a household name. I know Shoko-tan is comedic, but the whole thing is very relatable lol I understand that many of us want to have the focus of PR to be on his skills and whatnot, but athletes are always being talked abt in terms like these on the media, I think. I also agree abt the age thing @Geo1 very nicely put. It will all depend on his ankle state, but this retirement push for him reeks of desperate politics. This thread is great lol I’m going to confess, I started listening to bands like One Ok Rock and Back Number because of Yuzu; I liked j pop rock before, but he helped me update my playlist some years ago lol I’ve been doing very poorly, how abt you? Haha For some silly fluff: A brazilian fanpage did a voting for Yuzu’s top costumes, it gathered something like 6k votes (I found it quite a lot), and now the comments are full of salt and slapfights - all in good humor tho, is very funny. “That’s why we brazilians shouldn’t vote”, “Yuzu, you should drop your fans”, “haha best costume, greater than many careers”, “origin 1.0 stans you will pay for this”. Some mad that haru yo koi got second. Best fanyu slapfights are always abt costumes and hair, low stakes and is all abt how great they usually are. Much better than whatever drama was happening today in fs twitter, fanyus are so big now that there factions. Drought is on everyone!

Does TCC do PR for their athletes in general? Yuna was much earlier, before the reputation of the club skyrocketed, but I don’t remember Brian hyping her skills much. My memory is faulty, I don’t remember they saying much abt their other skaters programs before comps, trying to think what their mode was before Pyeongchang. I’m guessing is their style. And Yuzu is particularly private (in Toronto especially), there’s a whole tension with japanese media abt him boasting himself so he would probably prefer to keep expectations under his control. A good PR department would work wonders for his image in the West, that’s true, but then there would be media competition lol The grip he has in China is crazy (and is getting me slightly worried, will admit), so I wonder if part of his charm is being perceived as an underdog fighting a system, lone warrior, this kind of stuff. Off topic, apart from FaOI news Nobu hasn’t posted anything right. Gets me just a tad worried.
-
No news from his side. I think he only skipped FaOI once right, bc on injury. This season (this whole quad really) has been so draining, emotionally. Don’t even know how I feel as a fan much anymore, wish he could have a smaller ice show just for himself. Or just rest. We will see, they might make notice of more skaters in the next weeks or so. edit: I reckon there will be no russians as well. Hm.
-
Not sure where to post this, or if it’s relevant to the forum at all, but since it’s related to something so dear and close to Yuzu I will link it here. Adms feel free to move or delete it, is just Japanese news Edit: @erenbeat me to it lol
-
I woke up to this today, what a wonderful sunday morning lmao Also, how on earth did Yuzu send the pic? Bluetooth after gala? Or does this man have wechat now? I bet it was through email… (does this mean he can share his selfies with Alysa and other skaters as well?). Yuzu really went, “why have sns if your friends post it for you?” Xinyu and Shiyue are great at social media, watering this fandom consistently and precisely hahahahah Great relief to end / start the week, suddenly fs twitter is good again. Guys, Yuzu’s arabesque form tho… better than most in the discipline at this point.
-
I will also comment here, because baby fanyus need to know. Make no mistake, this is not a simple “own” against a fandom, this is what they’ve been doing for the last 10 years in their attempt to diminish Yuzu himself. His accomplishments and popularity are categorized as fruits of a lunatic group of people, criticism against ISU and corruption in judging is dismissed as crazy fanyu behavior, his own standing in the sport is put into question bc “his fandom is crazy”. There’s no reasonable way to address this. Sorry adms, please feel free to delete this if it’s too negative for the thread, I wanted to insist on @Mary_kyo ‘s point. In positive news then. Anyone saw this: Nobu still has his jumps!! And it looks good! The lack of competition pressure seems to do wonders hehe Hope he is on the FOI cast this year (can’t imagine him not going, but you know, just hope).
-
what a timely comparison, I just finished watching cobra kai I liked this a lot. Art inspires art. His scores could be much more lowballed than it already is you can only play around with the loopholes if there’s some reward for it; and the reward has to have a minimum certainty that it will come. But I don’t think many of us would like him as much as we do, and he certainly would not be under TCC.
-
I think this is what has been bothering me the most about the narratives surrounding the “new trailblazers” in the sport. Is pure disinformation, and disrespectful to athletes who have been suffering the burden of judges bigot prejudices. I might bring some of my comments also to the salt mines so I don't spread more negativity here The joke is on me, went from "I won't be supporting coaches like a fan, that's silly as hell" to "no coach? maybe one coach?" (btw... we don't have Ghislain stickers...) Yuzu's defenders are usually like this, right? Even the Russian legends, although we can debate about the genuiness of it all. He does have public supporters, and that's what matters to him the most in the end. His message to Miyagi Prefecture feels very personal doesn't it? Like he was talking directly to his supporters there. I liked it. I think this last quad might have shifted something in him, signs of adulting in a rough environment. Not a bad thing.

I never know how much to trust these accs, but I love them regardless, thank you for sharing 🥰 Despite everything, I hope the memories from Beijing are held dear to Yuzu and his family, his reception there was amazing. I’ve seen fanyus saying this is our rock bottom (in terms of heartbreak and frustration), but really, that amount of love was unprecedented (for a jpn athlete I think). Lucky it happened there? Processing the end of this quad the best way I can here lol
