Once again Yuzu is a pionieer. TBH, on 19 July I took a black pen and painted the day black in my calendar. I had feared the r*t day ever since I discovered Yuzu in 2018. First I didn't know what to make of all that pro-skater / pro-athlete talk. I couldn't imagine how this would NOT mean retirement. However, meanwhile I have a completely different understanding of what's going on: To me it seems that Yuzu continues his "normal" skating in parallel with the I$U competitions. He still competes without competing because for those who still watch those competitions it's still possible to compare him to the other skaters. And, what's even more important, to compare his - now free - development to their development which is restricted even more by the new rules now. I don't spend my money on attending competitions any more. So although I miss the atmosphere of competitions with Yuzu attending, I still feel some excitement: What will be Yuzu's new program? What will his costume be like? Which music will he chose? Which elements will he concentrate on? Maybe it all started when somebody asked Max Ambesi which score he would give Yuzu for his 24h TV Rondo. I had thought I would be bitter when IM landed some kind of ugly 4A but I'm not because Yuzu plays in a different league now, a higher league.

Really strange. I usually avoid watching videos of NC or IM. So torturing myself by watching them just to dislike them is just so out of question!

Hello@Beatricefrom another fellow German (who is still struggling to recover the last 110 pages without making any progress). So you found Yuzu through 2019 World Championships on German TV? They used to broadcast also GPs on ONE in 2018 (not sure if also in 2019), but maybe it was only compilations. (IIRC I had recorded at least Yuzu's 2018 GP performances.) Anyway, it's sad that figure skating is irrelevant on TV today in the home country of back-to-back Olympic Champion Kati Witt. I have never found German championships on TV (and although there were livestreams on the internet, I had trouble finding them on YouTube). So ... when Yuzu (hopefully) starts planning his world tour soon, in addition to his favourite country Finland he should definitely include Germany, right? When he participated in Nebelhorn Trophy for the last time, there was no queuing yet and no Pooh rain, so we have to make up for that.

What a nice memory. I couldn’t suppress a “Wow!” when streaming Autumn Classics 2018 and getting the first glimpse of his Origin 1.0 costume.

@NewprogramspleaseCan you tell me your secret? How did you persuade him? 🤔😃 And yes, he has beaten I$U by number of views per video already. Never doubted this, though.

As I was busy recently and gazillions of messages appeared on the Planet on a very specific day, I’m still in the process of catching up. So it may be a little late but I want to express that this new fanyu outing warmed my heart. Another person has come to reward the hard work that other fanyus have put into establishing well organised libraries and structured sources of information and has come to feel comfortable in our community. 😊

Yuzu had a cold at GPF 2015? The expression on his face after the final pose used to look like a smirk to me but instead it might have had something to do with breathing properly ... 🤔

Although it's been only 4 years in my case, becoming Yuzu's fan has driven me into strange situations and adventures, too. Fear of missing our flight home made me and my family leave the gala of Helsinki GP before Yuzu's performance - and regretting it so bad made us miss our flight home after the gala of GPF Turin. I had to invent an excuse for school for my daughter because GPF 2019 was not during school holidays. Before knowing Yuzu such a thing would have been unacceptable for me. Like staying up all night for watching a live stream and trying to work the next day. However, I don't regret a single minute and I'm grateful for these last 4 years. And now I'm extremely curious what will come next.

When you think you already know everything. These details are really impressive! I knew that Yuzu ran out of the rink with his skating boots on and that his family spent some days in a shelter. However, reading that the boots were damaged and the home was destroyed is something different! Same with the details about his sister: So she taught him how to jump? Also I had always been wondering how Yuzu perceived his mom being around, leaving his dad and sister behind. So there was a very simple (and sad) reason why she had to stop making his costumes.

It is still sinking in, it takes time. I had felt lucky with so many European venues (like other European fanyus), and having read now that Finland is Yuzu's favourite country, I think he really might have wanted to compete in Espoo. I had never been to Finland before Helsinki GP but somehow my family immediately felt very much at home there without knowing why and we started going there more often. (We happened to be in Espoo when this info came.) Knowing we have something in common with Yuzu in this respect gives me some peace.
-
What was happening there? My guess is: If Yuzu hadn’t already decided to go pro, this might have caused him to stop competing. Is it really possible that he wasn’t even invited as no. 14? The reigning Japanese champion! Not just some national champion but champion of the nation with the now (after BC’s retirement) most successful skaters worldwide! Yuzu won Nationals repeatedly, beating these skaters!

Sorry in case similar thoughts have already been discussed meanwhile. Having been away for a few weeks I’m catching up browsing through 100 (or so) pages. Reading this from today’s perspective, could we have guessed? Yuzu asked Javier how life changed, becoming a professional skater. And he admitted that he had liked shows more than competitions which I personally wouldn’t have believed. I always thought Yuzu loved competing.

IMO Espoo would be perfect for various reasons. And I still cling to this hope. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Are there enough seats though? We know fron FAOI what arenas Yuzu can fill ... 🐐 BTW, I would gladly join the group of fanyus who wants to organise a private Europe tour for Yuzu. He may also be interested to come back once more to the home country of the other back-to-back Olympic Champion - a country that used to have lots of medalists until some decades ago ... ⛸🥇🥈🥉
-
Thank you so much for your thoughts and interpretation! Now the costume finally makes sense to me. It's good that the white part prevails in Yuzu's costume ...
-
Exactly! And I loved the way they "inter-hooked" their little fingers after the final show ...

OK, after having posted this (I'm glad I was able to post) I'm able to like other posts again. So almost back to normal, only Safari still doesn't let me open the Planet.

Since yesterday Safari cannot open Planet Hanyu any more for me and when I use a different browser I cannot like other posts.

Agree with every point! Seimei will always remain my favorite because that was when I first saw him and became his fan immediately like my teenage daughter (never thought this could happen to me at my age). Rondo is a masterpiece - so delicate and detailed in every nuance. Hope and Legacy is a wonderful miracle - pure delight from a faultless performance. However, given what music genres twens normally prefer today, I find it only natural that Yuzu enjoys skating to music which seems to be more typical for his age group. Further, I was impressed seeing him doing movements on the ice which you would rather expect on a wooden floor. In my opinion, again, he made it look easy - as if he had been doing contemporary dance before. I can't wait to see the full "Raison" ...
-
Although Yuzu has the ability to turn every piece of music into magic and I wholeheartedly enjoy his classical and "calm" programs, I must say I am relieved he has now debuted two fast and energetic programs in a row. He is a young man full of power and in my opinion it fits him perfectly.

This can probably be answered by the fanyus who organised group tickets last time. I had bought 3 all-event tickets in a row, so no group price. Not sure what kind of single tickets were left after all-event tickets went on sale. As access to training was only included in all-event tickets for both competitions (unlike Montpellier for example), I had concentrated on getting these.
-
That would be my dream! I was lucky once to see Yuzu in Finland and Italy and probably can’t hope to be that lucky again. 🙏🏻🍀 It has cost me a fortune to go to both events with my family but I don’t regret a single cent. This time I would go alone as it’s not during school holidays, so I’m thinking about joining in case the Planet plans to organise group tickets again ...

My family has discussed passionately what conclusions Yuzu will draw from the recent decisions. It could be another challenge for him to "give lessons in what figure skating really is", as somebody already commented his performances, despite these new rules. At least he can be sure that people all over the world (and after Beijing even more) are aware what scores he would deserve ... While my daughter joined me watching parts of the ISU Congress, her dad did some research and found an old article in "Die Welt". It's astonishing that this article was published in December 2002 but the content sounds very familiar. So people have been fighting the current development for 20 years - in vain. https://www.welt.de/print-welt/article307428/Der-Applaus-und-die-Zweifel-von-Katarina-Witt.html Hope the link works (sorry, this is my first time linking an article). Not sure if there is an official English version - and sorry in case this has been posted here before (maybe years ago). So here is my translation. I may not have used the correct terminology in the part where the technical aspects of jumps are described. Maybe @Henni147 or @Annicould check and make necessary corrections ...

The vast majority of Pooh sans was, of course, thrown from the VIP side opposite the judges. There were glass walls everywhere and I remember having trouble getting my plushy onto the ice since the seats were at some distance from the rink, at least at the short side opposite the K&C. Some plushies (not mine) landed on the heads of cameramen and photographers and some of them didn't even bother to pass them on.

Thank you for sharing your highly interesting first-hand live experience and background information! First, I couldn't see a reason why Yuzu would pour water over his head (I was worried he'd catch a cold), but having watched a YouTube video with the lyrics I understand his choreography a little better. I also find it very impressive how he manages to convey his feelings connected with Beijing and 4A. I agree, this is different from his other programs we have seen so far. I wish you luck for the lottery! Update: Just saw that meanwhile you have won tickets - great!

Being one of those 2172, I'm quite impressed! Although I felt happy for every new satellite who turned up, I hadn't thought it would be THAT many! A clear indication of what a nice place this planet is. Having been lurking since 2018 I have felt at home here ever since. Not only when we were showered with new Yuzu content but also after a stressful work day or during lockdown monotony - there was always something to make me feel good. I can never thank the organizers enough!
