  1. Ahhh, I want Yuzu to skate to some dark energy song in the future! I think he'd be an awesome evil character. Just think about his "ehehehe" when he is trolling everyone.

Something like the 'When you're evil' song by Voltaire, that has that fun vibe! Where is that tag for the wishlist of songs for Yuzu to consider for skating?

Perhaps this has been noticed before but it certainly merits mentioning again - I just took a look at Shomo's free-skate at the GPF and I was struck by how many empty seats there were.  If Yuzu had been competing the place would have been jammed.  I guess the ISU and JSF are learning now that this is what happens when you kill the goose that lays the golden eggs.

I was there for both 2019 GPF and 2022, the difference was huge. Even during weekend, it was barely half-full this time, as compared to long waits in lines and many security checks during 2019 when the venue was totally full. If I remember correctly, even for the practices there were more people in 2019 than in 2022 for the actual competition (even though they had Memola, the home favourite, competing!).

Although I agree, that Yuzu's presence would likely fill the venue up, I think the added absence of Russian, Korean, Chinese and Japanese fan groups is what clinched it. These made up a lot of the audience in the past at least 6 years, from what I have seen. So the covid and war situations are a factor.

@Perelandra Yuzuru and Prada? :eek:He never fails to surprise me

I have been to Japan many times and have foreigner friends living and working there - one of them is working as a Salesman and told me that Japanese people are big on good quality brands, especially in the city/workplace. To the point that you basically have to have your work clothes be some of the luxury brands otherwise you are a bit looked down upon. I would assume the same goes for Yuzu - his t-shirts are Emporio Armani and so on.

A thanks to Yuzu for his mention in his interview about the shrine

That's amazing! I visited Ise shrine during my first visit to Japan 10 years ago. It is indeed a deeply impressive place where you feel the spiritual energy in the whole area.

We saw many expensive cars in the area of the village, near the entrance - apparently a lot of Japanese higher ups tend to visit this shrine often.

  5. Wow, major Czech media is continuing the Kamila doping/Eteri army issue discussion even after Olys: https://wave.rozhlas.cz/zdrcujici-pripad-valijevove-je-posledni-kapka-krasobrusleni-potrebuje-zasadni-8689881?player=on

This is in Czech, so for those who are interested, the discussion is around the moment of Kamila's free skate and the culmination of all the issues with FS, Rusfed, Eteri and the disgust it created in all viewers of Olys.

FS is not that popular in recent years (maybe past 10y) in Czech, so you don't see any articles and media coverage popping up in major media unless there is a major win from Czech figureskater or there is a huge scandal. It's surprising to see this continued attention and discussion even after Olys ended.

PS: I don't think it was easier for Yuzu to pursue the 4A because Yuma and Shoma were there. The 4A is his dream. He continued on the past 4 years and came to Beijing because of it. Even if the Olys team did not have Yuma and Shoma, that wouldn't change.

Oh, I do think he'd go for it in any case. But from my observation, results for Japan are very high on his priority list, so having a solid back up on the team would alleviate some of his concerns, I imagine.

His skating does not come close to Yuzu’s.

To be fair, Yuma is now what, 18 years old? He has amazing potential and I am sure Yuzu is relieved there is a strong man representing Japan, that he can rely on. I'd even go so far as to speculate, that since he had Yuma and Shoma on the Oly team, it was easier for him to focus on 4A challenge, since the odds for at least one medal for his country was almost 100%.

Yuma will grow into a better skater, you can see he watches Shoma and Yuzu and aims to improve. Yuzu is another level and has been since very young, but let's also look at the bright side of Yuma coming up.

I think the main issue is that most of the country doesn't have access to an ice rink. Those only exist in big cities or up north.

I agree, I think this may be it. Looking at the medal count for China in summer Olys (they were second to US) and now in Beijing they are not doing bad as well, it shows they are very good in developing structure for the Oly athletes. I expect FS will be next on the line, as soon as they get the structure in place. It's just baffling, since they already have such great pairs for a long while and men are doing reasonably well too. Why not ladies? So strange. One would think putting in place similar system to Russia would not be an issue in China (without the unhealthy culture though, one can hope).

It's like the only person we can trust in this whole circus, who truly cares and loves this sport, is Yuzu.

Reading the various TW posts, I understand your sentiment. I don't think Yuzu is the only one who cares, but he's likely one of the most wise people in figure skating, who is able to look at a situation from multiple angles. He's also great at analyzing first and acting after, which is a rare phenomenon in today's society. I'd say it has to do with his superior ability to focus. Most of us are "goldfish" able to focus max 6s on one thing.

Could be true, but worth verifying. He fabulates at times. Remember how he announced Lauriault/LeGac had quit competing last week? Turns out they only switched to Canada, but he presented his opinion as a fact. I still roll my eyes when I recall him claiming that 'tsuripuru axeru' is the Japanese word for 3A, a few years back. So, I'd take his words with a grain of salt, unless the Japanese PH users can confirm.

Definitely would like a confirmation from a more reliable source :) The boy's determined look really did give off a bit of a Yuzu vibe, but I have seen him for the first time, so if anyone here has more details, I'd appreciate hearing them.
