  1. We have a saying in France that goes: "Qui n'avance pas, recule" AKA: Standing still means falling behind.

Yuzuru's overall quality is undeniably getting better. Both his technique and expression are more polished than ever, and whilst that is good and all, it is kinda expected from a veteran. Chiddy, Mao and Carolina are the best example of this. This asset didn't really help them score-wise, however.

With Yuzuru, what pained me most and what I think is going to cost him dearly, is dropping the 4LZ. He's been training it since before Pyeongchang, had to drop it due to injury, got back on it in 2019 and when it surprisingly got consistent... he decided to drop it again after 4cc 2020 with seemingly no plans of practicing it or including it in a competitive program. The jump had so much potential and he spent so much effort on it. His decision is unfathomable and I don't think that working on an already consistent jump while going after his 4A fantasies is an impossible task.

He is aware that the 4A isn't a game changer so I (really) hope he has some other cards under his sleeve...  If his goal is still to win, that is. If he just wants to land the axel and call it a day then nevermind lol :pp Go for it, Yuzuru.

  2. Ok so, while aimlessly scrolling through the obscure side of the Japanese FS community on YT, I accidentally found what seems to be a fortune reading (???) for Yuzuru for the 2020/2021 season.

It seems to be positive and although I don't really believe in fortune telling and stuff, I can't deny that hearing nice things about him and his future always make me a little happier :P So I thought I should share lol.

  3. World's 2016 Chopin has always been my most favourite performance. He was in perfect fusion with the music, matching the deafning silence of the first half then the erratic madness of the stsq. I think I stopped breathing when I saw it for the first time.

The only performance that could rival it in terms of interpretation is the  4CC 2020 ver, in my opinion. (as you can probably tell, I'm a 4S,4T3T,3A-Chopin enthousiast lol. It's the layout that highlights the music the most imo).

  4. It would be awesome and so damn entertaining if Yuzuru made it a habit to just turn-up at a competition with a selection of programs he picked at the last minute to fit his mood and/or the occasion haha. That level of randomness and nonchalance would probably go down in history:coolio:

Random one - hopefully this is an ok thread to post it in.

Does anyone have the Telesport commentary (Yulia and a male Russian) for Olys SP and FS that they might be willing to share? I’ve checked the videos and can’t see it; unfortunately the video I had appears to have vanished the way the last 10€ in your purse does when you need cash and I’ll be darned if I can find a copy anywhere...

I don't think this is how it works. I disagree with this tweet and believe the next Olympics being in Beijing has nothing to do with the inflation at all. It would be the same if the next Olympics were held on Mars.

I don't think anyone is arguing about that. The OP clearly stated in their tweet that "USFSA would have pushed their own skaters regardless". It's just that they are willing to play the fact that they're of chinese ancestry to their advantage to attract Chinese sponsors and maybe get a more invested Chinese/Chinese-American audience and the Olympics taking place in Beijing is the perfect stage for that.

Edit: Also, I guess I'm just not for accusing anyone of anything over an ambiguous comment and just go with the most neutral interpretation. Especially since Ambessi has always been supportive of all athletes regardless of their nationality/race. (Although he is harsher on American skaters in general haha).

  7. As long as the singing doesn't happen during the competition, whether during the pooh rain immediately following his performance or when he's at the K&C, I am for it. Celebrating his birthday in the middle of a competition, when he would be either axiously anticipating the scores or (god forbid) feeling regretful about his performance isn't a good idea and I don't think that anyone (Yuzuru or his competitors) would enjoy it under such tense circumstances. Doing it after his practice is over or during the victory lap seems more sensible and less disruptive to  the formality of the event.

I think something to consider about things Yuzuru says (about his plans, his performances, his motivations, etc), I believe he says things that maybe are not exactly true, but suit his purposes at the moment. Not that he LIES, exactly, but none of would dispute he thinks DEEPLY about figure skating, he probably knows damn well what impact every word he says has, and he has strategies and long term goals that we will only know bout when he WANTS us to know.

I think it was recent commentary by Ambessi on the subject of Yuzu not being scored adequately for his transitions and complexity. After Skate Canada Yuzu said he was relieved to finally get scores that did reward his efforts, otherwise he was considering reducing transitions to make it easier to cleanly land jumps. Ambessi more or less said that Yuzu was bluffing, he CANNOT reduce complexity in his skating because he is not built that way. It would not be HIM if he tried to 'skate like Nathan'. I agree with Ambessi, Yuzu was just taking the opportunity to discuss it and 'threaten' to change his style if he doesn't get rewarded. And I think it was good of Yuzu to talk about it like that. The Powers That Be deserve to be 'scared' he would actually downgrade himself, subconsciously at least they must know that is NOT the direction figure skating should go.

I completely agree. Yuzuru is a very headstrong person. He might not be dismissive of people's opinions, as he is too polite and attentionate for that, but he certainly won't be swayed with a comment or two... We're talking about someone who has faced criticism all his life! Moreover, as Orser said many times, Yuzuru is a very private person. I personally do not expect him to lay his heart *completely* bare to his fans or blabber about his future plans to the media to chew on his words over and over or worse, use them against him. This doesn't take anything away from his honesty of course, but dealing with the media, you sometimes are forced to comment on subjects you'd rather not to, so being smart is the way to go.

  9. I, uh acknowledge the fact that everybody is free to discuss whatever they want as long as they refrain from personally attacking skaters, but this long winded talk about Yuzuru's facial hair and weird fixation on his pimples is borderline awkward and uncomfortable to read as I don't think it would be considered decent (or amusing) to scrutinise a person and their flaws so earnestly and openly in real life, outside of social media platforms.

Please cut these kind of conversations short next time, if possible.

  10. Can't find the "off topic" emoticon...

Going by this logic, publicity would not be necessary for the already well established brands, yet they are quite necessarily the ones who invest the most is sponsorships. Celebrities, most of the time, can advertise a brand just wearing it and without directly being affiliated to it- Free publicity as you call it, yet companies are still willing to invest in cms etc.

Well, it is poetic and aesthetically pleasing and he has delivered it at its best at CoR imo. I just don't hold any particular emotional attachment to it- unlike what I feel about, say, Requiem or Hana ni nare. I won't hold a grudge against him if he goes with swan again though lmao. Just voicing my opinion.

  12. Alyona is simply amazing. Such spectacular skating skills, such maturity and patience in her skating! Nothing is rushed- And we get to enjoy every second of it. Her 2A landing was a bit iffy compared to what we have seen before from her but eh, it's still a treat to the eyes.

Also, good job, Rika! Such a big leap from last season.

A little sad for Sofia tho. I hope she does better in the free :)

  13. I think he has the tendency to relate his age to his skating career, which is why his answers seem to be a little bit unusual. The competitive life of a figure skater is quite short, especially with the increasing technical requirements in the men's field. By 30, a skater is considered old and on the brink of retirement so Yuzuru's reaction is understandable for me, at least.

Ofc, he makes it seem like his life will be over at 30...But that's how youth works in geneal . I am sure he will change his mind-set after r***ing.
