Sparkly Ruffle

Sparkly Ruffle (5/67)

  1. @SuzyQ and other satellites in Japan, I hope you are safe. The biggest earthquake since 2011, that's scary. Thankfully, the tsunami warning has been downgraded to a tsunami advisory, but it looks like the next few days will be very difficult for the Japanese, not to mention about the long-term effects.
  2. This is absolutely crazy! Can't wait to see when it's finished! (Please ping Yuzuru official, he should see it 🙏).
  3. Agree. The best thing about Goliath, however, is that Yuzu has taken full advantage of the medium to create a work that goes much further than a skating performance and cannot be replicated under normal circumstances. The poignancy it has in its current form cannot be achieved in any other way, especially the choice of camera angles seems crucial to the final effect.
  4. Unfortunately, as far as I understand, this only applies to social media. It doesn't address the main problem, which is the larger media companies, which can operate on a much larger scale than any individual SNS user, have the financial resources, lawyers and often political connections, and the manpower to carry out systemic harassment without repercussions. FS antis, random trolls and gullible gossip seekers are just another link in this chain, they just parrot and spread all the harmful nonsense, misinformation and hate they find in the tabloids, which is enough to make them complicit in destroying other people's lives, but not enough to solve the problem simply by increasing SNS operators' control over the content published on their platforms. It wasn't some random Twitter users who spied on Yuzuru, his partner, members of both their families and friends and invaded their private space to force them to disclose some information. So to me it looks more like a fig leaf, a perfect way to give the impression that someone is doing something in response to a momentary public outcry.
  5. This is a heartwarming message, in the same vein as @ZuCrittermentioned: https://vxtwitter.com/takuyafutaesaku/status/1726448031770546678?s=20 Direct link to the article: https://note.com/takuyafutaesaku/n/n7a8eb1919bf6. (Autotranslate is not good, e.g. for honorifics like senshu at the beginning, but maybe you could use DeepL to get a general meaning right).
  6. Please, please, please, dear Liv and everyone, refrain from suggesting that it was Yuzuru who did something wrong and should have done something differently. First of all, from everything I have been able to learn about how things work in Japan, his way of communicating and acting about the marriage was normal. Many other Japanese public figures did the same. Shizuka Arakawa has been married since 2013 and has children; both her marriage and the birth of her two children were announced to the public, but no picture has been published and the general public still doesn't know who her husband is. I have not heard of them facing the same aggressive intrusion into their private lives. I know it's hard to accept, but it really does seem that Yuzuru has been given "special treatment". It's not that his approach 'didn't work', it's that there are people who are really determined to harass him. But more importantly, even if Yuzuru's approach was unusual in Japan, it wouldn't legitimize stalking, defamation and other forms of harassment against him, his wife and their families. What happened to him is not only inhuman and unacceptable, it's against Japanese law, and he's not the one responsible for ensuring that Japanese law is respected by other people, especially the media. I know that all of us here on PH have good intentions and wish him the best, and because we feel hopeless, we try to find an answer as to how such a terrible situation could be avoided in the future, but please, please be careful with the wording as such discussions can unintentionally slip into blaming the victim. I'm sure he'll reflect on what happened, but the effort to change the situation for the future shouldn't fall on him, or any other victim of media abuse.
  7. Sorry for quoting myself, but this is exactly what I was talking about. We don't have Salt Mines on PH anymore, so it wasn't shared here, but reportedly there were a lot of things going on in Japan since he announced his marriage, and it looked to some fans like it was at least partly an organised effort against him, with a notable role of some tabloids, which I was told are owned by Nikkan, the same one that had leaked the info about his retirement before his press conference, and as a result has been boycotted by JFanyus and seen a severe drop in sales. I don't know these things first hand and I've never read the articles myself (firstly, I wasn't interested in gossip, secondly, I didn't want to give the tabloids any clicks, because to get any kind of engagement was exactly the reason why they continued to stalk and harass him, his wife, their families and friends), so I'm not the best person to talk about it, but even the little that reached my ears sounded awful. My understanding is that these tabloids created a kind of echo chamber that amplified the message and made many people believe and parrot what was published. So please don't think he got divorced because of a few crazy fans wandering around his house. I'm not saying he didn't suffer from his fans, or rather people who used to be his fans, but apparently there's some big money and interests involved. This is probably why he felt hopeless: it seems there was nothing he could do about it, because his main enemies, who started and fueled the whole thing, were just too powerful. It's so easy to destroy someone's life. I'm so sad and angry. So f*cking angry.
  8. I like your story, thank you for sharing
  9. A few words from MIKIKO sensei to get us even more excited before the RE_PRAY: https://hochi.news/articles/20231103-OHT1T51221.html
  10. This is so AMSR! He speaks with such a velvety voice and in such a warm way about his hometown that I got emotional. It's very different from his usual promotional videos. I'm enchanted.
  11. He's so cool! Story told solely through movement. Dynamics differentiation. Isolations. Speed. So many diverse movements. Movements we've never seen him do before. Balance testing. Hip-hop hydro. Floorwork. Footwork. Flightwork? 100% dramazuru ending. Yeah, he's cool
  12. Hi, @bubbletea I've also been away from this chat for a while, so I'm replying to you now. Yuzuru hasn't said anything and probably won't, and there is a good reason for that. If the couple wanted to reveal the wife's identity, they would have done so already. They haven't, and that should be respected. That should be enough for an answer, but I think it is worth making a few more general comments. As for the spread of this particular gossip, from what I can tell the source is the same tabloids that keep trying to convince the public that they have found out who she is, dropping one name after another. The mere fact that this time their "candidate" got more traction and the gossip was picked up by some more trustworthy looking media does not mean she is the one. Gossip repeated a million times may start to look like fact, but it is not the same as being fact. Truth is not a matter of how many people believe something or how many people claim it to be true. As long as Yuzuru remains silent, there is no way for the public to really know. But most importantly, even if she was the wife, naming her publicly is a violation of the boundaries Yuzuru established, and as such it is an aggressive act. Being curious is one thing, doing something against someone's will is another. It is also potentially dangerous for her - whether she is the wife or not - and opens the door to further prying and harassment of her and Yuzuru by the same media. Once the tabloids have a name that the public is willing to believe, they can build on it whatever narrative suits their interests. And let's not be naive, their interests have nothing to do with Yuzu's welfare. On the contrary, there are too many people in Japan and around the world who are interested in hurting him. In the age of the Internet and social media, it's impossible not to come across this kind of "news" from time to time, but my opinion is that if we don't want to become involved, even unconsciously, in any kind of hostile campaign against Yuzuru, it's better not to engage with this kind of content, no matter how nice and harmless it may seem at first glance.
  13. I want this picture as a large format, high quality photographic reproduction, framed and hung on my wall. Yes, right next to the black Elle/Gucci series by TAKAY and black & white visuals from Gift.
  14. Henni, thank you soooo much! I read your analysis of Gift and again marveled at the scale, complexity and originality of this work. I hope everyone who comes to that site will experience the same, and if they haven't seen the show so far, they will catch up quickly. You are doing an amazing and extremely important job. The whole idea of creating such a site is wonderful. I hope Google's algorithms quickly learn that this is a first-class resource and start positioning your site at the top of the search results. I wish you all the best in your future work and look forward to your next articles!
