  1. Its allll Yuzu as favorite with a couple (sarcastic) posts about the "excellent" judging and RIP figure skating. Misha gets a mention and then you have to scroll waayy down to find just a mere few for Nathan. I feel kinda bad for the guy tbh. The unscrupulous judging wasn't his fault.
  2. Yes the way Javi and Brian kinda set their hands going into some of their jumps is very similar. It helps that Javi used to have longer curls like Brian too.
  3. I like different styles of costumes. It can get very samey otherwise. Especially when some just show up in plain button down shirts. Costumes can really add to the character of program whereas others just looked like they're in regular street clothes. It seems like a wasted opportunity to me. Interesting that people compare Shoma and Yuzu costumes. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't I read that they're designed by the same person? As far as Weir, my complaint would be that some of his costumes just aren't body flattering, which is odd considering he fancies himself as a designer. But meh, if it makes him happy. You do you, Johnny.
  4. Now I've falling down the rabbit hole of Orser in the 80s Ahh sweetie what are you wearing. And skating to CATS if I'm not mistaken.
  5. The thing is with clubs like TCC is there's a lot of people involved. You have Brian but also according to the website "Over 20 professional coaches and consultants." You have to be a real team player as well as a strong leader in order to keep everything running smoothly. Someone may be a great coach in terms of technical skills but be really lousy at say interpersonal communication. There's a lot of factors involved. TCC is one of a kind.
  6. Yeah his blue bell-bottomed onesie look is usually what comes up in terms of his amateur career. https://www.gettyimages.ae/detail/news-photo/winter-olympics-can-brian-orser-usa-scott-hamilton-and-cze-news-photo/81341474 Ahh, baby Orser.
  7. Oddly the blue-pink thing is a modern invention. Ancient Romans thought the opposite way. Red was seen as a masculine color associated with blood and warfare. Pink being a lighter red color then went to young boys. Whereas blue was seen as feminine.
  8. LoL the medal sniffing thank you. Yuzu needs to develop a perfume Eau de la Médaille d'or so he can smell them all the time. Much less conspicuous.
  9. I loved Javi's smoothness or finesse if you will. Lovely edge quality. TCC doing right by their skaters. And can I get some Daisuke drama up in here. Cue the clip where baby Yuzu is watching Dai from the audience and starts giggling like a scandalized little school girl.
  10. Oh lordy, I saw this post and instantly went to Google his hyper masculine Cuban Pete costume (shiny bright yellow satin with ruffled sleeves FYI) instead I stumble onto an interview where he says, [admin edit: sorry, politics are not allowed or links] That just about says it all for me. Definitely time to stop googling Hamilton. It can only get worse from here. Help some one! I need happy thoughts to wash my brain out.
  11. Apparently Louis XIV was short and sensitive about his height and so heels became all the rage. But yeah I watched a documentary about Versailles and it was saying about how all these nobles were packed into the palace w/o proper sanitation and people (especially the men) would just "go" wherever and so the whole palace reeked of urine. And... now I'm feeling rather unwell.
  12. Yeah I usually think of Yuzu in terms of childlike innocence than girly.
  13. Yeah I do like Nathan as a person too, outside of the hype. Seems like an okay guy. Unfortunately I believe Hamilton was problematic even before the chemo, so there's really no excuse. He just has some weird complex about figure skating and sexuality, as quite a few of the old guard do. Elvis Stojko was another one. His idea was that figure skating needs to like, butch it up more if it wanted to attract the NASCAR crowd?! https://www.salon.com/2010/02/15/elvis_stojko_interview/ One can only imagine what the VENN diagram would be for fans of those two sports. Maybe there's some overlap, but they're two very different worlds. On a more positive note, these guys are dinosaurs by today's standards and hopefully attitudes will continue to improve over time. Let everybody find their own style and take that style to its pinnacle.
  14. Very true. You can plan the sickest, most insane layout ever on paper but you have to actually skate it at the competition for it to count and who knows what will happen on the night.
  15. This is certainly true. For instance, in Europe in the 1600s, men as well as women, used to wear high heels because to display your shapely calf muscles was seen as the height of masculinity.
  16. Nathan's ad for this season is all about how many hours he trains jump attempts, falls, dance lessons etc. Like none of this ever occurred to other skaters. "What!? You mean I have to train in order to land quads? No way!" It the ends with "Changing a sport takes a lifetime." Which does rather sound like he, Nathan, is claiming to be single-handedly changing the sport. The thing is - he didn't start the quad revolution. He came of age DURING it. He's the effect, not the cause. Big difference. Heck here's a vid of Orser doing a quad in 1985!? before any if these kids were even born. All of this is unfortunate because I want to like Nathan. He seems pretty cool and chill in interviews but the US media's portrayal of him makes it very difficult for me.
  17. Yes Scott does seem to have issues with non-conformist or more "flamboyant" skaters. From past statements he seems to be deeply insecure about being a straight male of a somewhat small delicate stature participating in a sport that is perceived as being predominantly gay. He's worried that people will think he's gay so he always pushing for more "masculine" styles, whatever that means. Its the fragile male ego thing. The man just needs to chill. You can be straight and a figure skater or you can be gay for that matter too, I couldn't care less.
  18. I think the point is that Yuzu himself would be unlikely to pick such a song? (Don't get me wrong, tho I love Queen). What other skaters do is their choice but Yuzu does seem to be very considerate in front of the cameras and him picking a song that's essentially about a singer giving the middle finger to a manager who swindled him financially seems unlikely?? IDK I'd think Rippon or Weir would be more likely for that particular song. Tho even that's unlikely imo.
  19. So apparently Nomura Mansai-san (aka Seimei), in addition to directing the ceremonies for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, is also advisor for the cultural events bring scheduled around the emperor's abdication. https://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2019/03/21/details-fixed-for-abdication-enthronement-ceremonies.html Anyway Nomura-san must be a busy guy.
  20. So a couple of days ago I saw a tweet rant about how the US coverage saying that Nathan is so impressive because he's a college student as well as a skater when Yuzu does the same thing and no one mentions it. ( in the US). I never really noticed it before but now that I see it I can't unsee it? Now some of this I think is that we as fans read a lot of translations of articles, making the effort to seek out fan subs or poor google translations where as maybe the US media does not? But that seems kinda lazy for journalists. I mean Yuzu is Olympic champion. But I guess each country likes to push their own. Anyway, I just tuned into the NBCSN coverage and wouldn't you know they start off with Yuzu versus "the American college student."
