  1. Though I don't know his decision for next season (and I think nobody knows now), I kind prefer his previous desicion to stay in Sendiai, as during the covid pandemic, I have been working from home for almost two years, and it did improve my working efficency! and I can control everything myself, have a lot of fun!

I think yuzu may have some similiar experience. As far as I know, CC do little run through unless your competition is coming, but in Sendai, yuzu can practice whatever he wanted, he can do run through for all his previous programmes to improve his stamina, and he can practice his programme again and again, which apprently improve the success rate, as he did two clean programms in his first competition both in 20 and 21, and also he didn't need to share the rink with others, having skating lessions with others,  it gave him relaxed enviroment to practice 4A, no need to worry if others are affected.

Woking home alone makes me more focused on my work, and also if i need help, I just communicate with others online using video conference or concall, quite convenient. He can do the same, less interruption, more freedom, and can touch more ppl to help, why not?

You just described me as a pre-fanyu.  Just there for the beauty, no favorites.  TBH I miss those days sometimes.  Imagine watching each skater knowing nothing about Federations, judges, tech panels, politics etc... nothing but enjoyment of each athlete's ability on the day of their competition.  :sigh:

Anyway, if non-fans are in the seats, they may well become fanyus by the time it's over.

Sorry that I keep posting about this, but I don't think oversea fans hit the potential issue here. I agree that most normal people will be attracted by Yuzu's performance in the end. But it also need people to have the ability to enjoy his performance, pay attention to his performance, not taking this just as the kind of political task. I told this to my parents, and my father immediatly thought it would be terrible as he  has seen too much in the old days.

It is hard for people to understand without living experience in China, while for players with China background such as Chen and Zhou, they can easily figure out this as their parents has undergone all these before they going abroad.

I have read in Japanese blog, so please correct me if I am wrong. I have heard tickets will be sold to sponsor companies, public companies. The reason is, if any covid between audience occurs, you can easily chase and treat per organization. It is more difficult for individuals.

Not sold, assigned. And usually if you are the member from above institution, you don't know which sports and which game you are assigned to...

Oh God, I see what you mean.....are there so many people who could fill the ice rink seats?

not neccessary officials... I just list this and think it is easy to understand...and yes, they can fill the ice rink since as far as I know there is a large area close to the rink will be in a "close bubble", totally empty, and also other seats arrangment is about 4:1, 4 empty 1 people.

  5. 14 minutes ago, Orsa2017 said:

:scratch3: This doesn't make sense much to me, cause what if those qualified ppl got Covid anyway!!  Isn't it better to sell tickets but put high measures like quarantine and negative Covid test before entering!?  As fans will be more cautious not to get infected once they get the tickets!!!  They wouldn't want to miss the event!!

Doesn't make sense to me either, because I already get a permission from my boss long ago that I can WFH (aka in a quanrantine enviroment) for two month, but there's no opportunity to get a ticket.

  6. 12 minutes ago, Kadova said:

wow, that's very sad. Is there a way to know what kind of people the Chinese IOC will choose? If the fans know it, Yuzu should know it too.

To understand this may need some experience living China.... to make this simple, like some goverment department officials....

  7. 1 hour ago, Kadova said:

Sorry for posting a silly question, I surely missed something. Why the Chinese fanuys cannot buy OG tickets and attend the figure skating competitions?

Because officially there would not be any tickets for sale as a precaution during covid pandemic, but meanwhile, china goverment comitted to IOC there would be audience on site, the final solution is that the audience are all chosen without any public announcement. And I don't know if they will release this officially, but this is what has already happened. All tickets are already assigned to certain qualified people, with background check and from certain groups. And then it would be easy to manage them once quanrantine is required.

So No tickets for sale, no tickets for fanyu.

We accept that covid precaution takes the highest priority, but we also worry about the current audience structure is the kind yuzu has never encountered and never imagined, it is a very tough situation.  I don't know if oversea fans can understand why we are worrying about the current audience structure, it is hard to explain. But all I can say is that the Chinese IOC media is trying very hard to make Yuzu believe he will receive the same support as he used to have, but quite opposite, with current audience composition, in most of the chances, this won't happen and will be even worse ever. We hope him do know this, and be ready for this. China, with such a large fanyu base, can't provide him any support in the arena, it is very sad.

But we will support him from anywhere else.

Agree! Imagine Yuzu going into the 6-min warm up, expecting an audience like Pyeongchang where every time he landed a jump, the huge applause shook the venue; where as in Beijing, there is silence...or even worse, only applause when other skater (Boyang Jin) lands a jump. Yuzu hasn't skated in such audience for a long time. Not saying Yuzu can't skate in such audience, I trust he can amaze them, but being mentally not prepared is a negative factor.

Yes, currently chinese fans are explaining the situtation on twitter and trying to convey this situation to Yuzu's team and hope this info can help them preapared.

There would be no open sale for tickets because of the covid while still maintaining a certain amount of audience in the arena, special strategy is applied by the organizers to choose the audience and assign the tickets.  The outcome is that most of the audience may know nothing about figure skating, and maybe they know yuzu is a star, but that's all, and we can't expect them to applaud for a Japanese as they are chosen with certain strict critieria.

In China we do have a large amout of fans of yuzu, but the chances that any of us getting a ticket is almost impossible, maybe only several fortunate guys. We do hope the yuzu team know this situation and then can cope with this.

Otherwise, based on the media, they may have the misunderstanding that yuzu will get wamly supported in the rink while face the opposite.

Naomi understands and speaks Japanese, just not fluently for public interviews. She speaks Japanese in an adorable child like manner and her expressions and gestures are very Japanese - shy and floppy at times. In Japan they have shown her chatting with her grandfather who has now fully accepted her and embraces her with love and kindness.  So proud to have her represent Japan - she is helping our society evolve and progress and become more open to different ways of being Japanese. I am glad she was the one to light the torch. Also I am relieved Yuzu avoided being associated with this Olympic event, as the organizers had utterly neglected the Tohoku recovery theme, and he should not be manipulated and used by them to cover up for their sins. Naomi brings a fresh perspective and she has her own unique message that won’t be tainted by this pandemic Olympic.

Maybe I am not following about Naomi that much and missed this information. But agree with you that Yuzu was not evolved in this, good for him.

She's also, actually, while born in Japan, has spent most of her life in the US. I still think she was a fine choice, but not typical.

but as far as I know, she can't even speak Japanese, her only connection to Japan is her nationality, it seems nothing wrong to western media as they usually love her and considered her as one of them, e.g. she spoken for BLM, but she never said anything as an Asian, that is the identity recognition of herself.

  11. hey, sorry for bringing this up...while I enjoyed reading posts here, but I felt a little bit uncomfortable about using nessie to indicate 4A, as with modern Scientific research, nessie seems to me more like a fake story, while on the contrary, 4A is the truth Yuzu is fighting for.

    Blame me of being superstitious...

  12. 4A is dangerous

He knows better than anyone of us

He is trying it and getting closer to it than anyone in this world

No one can stop him , and thus I wish he is the first one to land it in competition.

And you know that Yuzuru's score wouldn't have exceeded Nathan's if he'd been able to hold on to an SP lead, how? Do you realize there's always been a momentum aspect to the sport?

Yuzuru probably DOES need more quads, in case Chen tries to land 5 in the LP in order to beat him. That's the real reason, though, unless you want to say that it doesn't matter at all if Yuzuru trains the 4F and the 4Lz, because Chen already has them and can put them in the LP and do 6 quads total, therefore getting his PCS + GOE that the judges want to pile onto him no matter what, and therefore win?

well you are the one who is convinced Yuzu lost FS to 10 points because he lost short

I am not . I think he lost FS because ISU is blind and dead.

that is the fundamental difference between us.

and yes,  Chen can do a 4S in WTT in that quality got GOE of 4.02 (compared with Yuzu's 4S in COR otonal is 4.30.) and make every one believe he can land 5 in LP. And i was there the whole week in saitama he really got big problems in landing his 4F that is why he replaced 4F with 4lz in short, but judges didn't see anything.  No one get called for UR? what happened to the 4S in origin?

this is why i thought he is the chosen one and yuzu isn't .

I know there's saying different matches has different standard, but we all see how PCS changes after US national.

How is this "clear" to you, might I ask? Based on a season consisting of Yuzuru winning both his GP events by wide margins, not being participate in the GPF and letting Chen thus build his momentum, and then giving a less than stellar SP performance at worlds?

may i say  because the way they scored the FS? how the PCS and the GOE is given?

and over all season's  the short stsq score? and the way they promote him?

by 20+ gap, they CLEARLY want to send the signal, even if Yuzu did't make the error in short which caused  the12 points lost, nathan would have won finally.

And yuzuru himself realized ISU is somehow sending the signal, and said he must get 4LZ/4A (4F?) in his arsenal, otherwise they will underscore him and overscore the chosen one.

I think he himself knows much better what is going on in the system.

Also...I predicted this before but looked like a pessimist...but using Yuzu's picture and then talking about him for 5 seconds was...kinda low?

It is even okay for me if them didn't mention his name, since part of the broadcast content based on the questions audience raised, but mentioin Yuzu for 5 secs in that way  ... just blow up my mind.

  16. 8 minutes ago, Anki said:

Correct me if I am wrong, but in most Nathan and Yuzu encounters - the winner of the SP end up wining the overall competition. Even when the person who lost the SP did a better FP,  the judges don't let things turn around easily (e.g. GPF 2016, RoC 2017, and I will even say Worlds 2019 - had judges marked GOE/PCS appropriately and not wrongly call the UR, Yuzu could have won the FS at least).  That's the impact of who the judges decided to be the first for a competition from the starting impression.  And the main reason for Yuzu's excessively low GOE in Worlds 2017 because after the SP the judges decided Javi was the winner already - they were not ready for Yuzu to spoil that hence they held down his GOE to make room. Had Javi not bombed the FS who knows what crazy GOE and PCS they would have thrown out (the ones they did give were already crazy though). Which is why it is imperative for Yuzu to win the SP no matter what, as it almost decides the winner barring a complete meltdown from Nathan in the FS.

they could make nathan win anyway with a somehow fair score since he is 12+ ahead in short, but they just give him 10 points more after the long I can't find any excuse to justify the score in WC2019 FS.

The CBC live stream (with PJ, Carol, and Kurt) , for anyone who's curious, mentioned Yuzu's amazing presence on the ice and how he's magical (for maybe 5 to 10 secs) but didn't really say much else.

The specific quote was in regards to how Kurt doesn't think athleticism is influencing the marks too much (LOL) because, "we have seen skaters come up who could quad, easily and beautifully, and they did not rise to the top, they were most often suppressed by someone like Yuzuru Hanyu who had a magic, who had a flair with the blade, who stood at centre ice and like... (Plushenko)... (paraphrased: could control the crowd)" etc.

Note the use of past tense (had) which is most likely not intentional but as an English Major/Teacher it was hard for me not to say anything.

So only watch if you want to hear some 20-something minutes of discourse about Shoma's arms during landings, Vincent NOT under-rotating (because Kurt gave him some helpful tips and because this season has improved his confidence), the French Ice Dance team having very subjective scoring (although deserved), and just some general fluff about hard-working skaters.

EDIT: That photo promo really feels like a let down now.

    :notamused:

okay, i finally got some time (during working and set this as my working BGM) to watch this.

And i was shocked, what did he imply? Yuzu didn't have a easy and beautiful quads? and did he mean in some competitions he didn't deserve to win but anyway he won because this "magic"

aside from this, I thought I heard kurt said something like " we should only have french ice dance team and nathan chen's skate"

the world  is even worse than i thought...

You are absolutely right about this. As someone who was educated under Confucianism, I am able to tell you that Yuzu doesn't just show great sportsmanship, he is perfect.

However I still do not understand why he isn't accepted in Japan as much as he is in China, as the Japanese view moral quality just as much as the Chinese do.

...It must be a misunderstanding …

Sorry for the tangent above, but the primary reason I was interested in this particular instance, is because I'm utterly fascinated by Yuzu's popularity in China when China has their own skating stars.  In the US, I can't think of any foreign athlete being promoted above our own.  There are a few instances of foreign athletes gaining fame because of physical beauty and/or a sentimental story, but no matter how beautiful/intelligent/noble/etc., they would never get to the point of surpassing our own stars if we have any in that sport.  Had they skated in the same era, Yuna Kim would never become more popular than Michelle Kwan in spite of Kim's exceptional physical beauty, and the likelihood is that we'd be finding all sorts of excuses for why Kim's skating was terrible - N.A. fans even try to argue that Yuzu isn't the most famous active skater.  It seems like the Chinese are as much or even more crazed for Yuzu than Japan.  I thought there was political tension between JPN and China as well so that's why I'm curious as to why he's so popular in China but not S. Korea and I thought maybe it was, in part, because he's not considered as attractive in S. Korea but that doesn't seem to be the case.  I was curious about how his popularity compared to Kim's in China because of the whole "hope of Asia" thing, since they're both wildly successful Asians.  I think it's also interesting that they embraced Yuzu over ethnically Chinese skaters - why Yuzu but not Patrick Chan or Michelle Kwan who are both very successful and ethnically Chinese - is the lack of Olympic gold? they're regarded as N. American first and Asian second? But Michael Chang was popular in China for being ethnically Chinese, in spite being less successful than others and American.

Yuzu is phenomenon, actually I can write a very serious essay analyzing why he is so popular in China, but that would be too long to read.

try to make this short anyway:

I don't think kim/kwan or any other  figure skaters had ever reached his popularity in China now, but it is not fair to compare, because the world is different, during the old times, we don't have social net work, we can't spread photos and video clips and let more ppl get to know them, even though he himself doesn't have a public account, ppl can easily get to know him from others sharing.  OGG is the reason why ppl want to know him, but considering there're really a lot of OGGs in other sport in China, i just take it as a bonus. He is more than OGGx2.

And from my experience, one photo/video clip get ppl to be curious who this guy is , and then search the web and they can see tons of his videos/photos and how great he is. After reading and watching that,  we may thought oh dear god how cute/charming/beautiful/dramatic/charismatic/incredible he is, and I do think Chinese share some basic fundemental aesthetic sense with Japan, the music/costume is easier for us to get, that is why there are so many MAD of him with the traditional china melody as BGM, he really suits that. And also once I present his performance to my mother, my mother just said the words in tears:  I can see the essence of Japan from him, he represents all good qualities from Japan".  Yes, there're history issues between two countries, but also maybe that is the reason chinese have more detailed images from Japan, good and bad, but he represents all the good sides, maybe this explains the "hope of asia" concept. Not only japan, but all these qualities, very asia side.  Actually I myself don't really honor some of them, but Yuzu make think oh, it can be done in a good and nature way  i am proud of that i will also follow him to do that.

From the conversation in the WTT thread and some articles I read, it looks like the Chinese admire extreme slenderness in both males and females, which surprised me.  I knew about the females and all the crazy challenges like the sheet of paper challenge but didn't realize that the guys are also held to this standard.  It seems pretty common in Asian countries to want pale skin and the higher nose bridge and height for men.  I thought the big eyes was a pretty common beauty standard as well but Yuzu doesn't have that.  Is Boyang also considered very attractive in China?  He seems to have a lot of the same physical characteristics as Yuzu but doesn't have that more feminine body shape. Is this androgynous look also prized in China?

so it is true western can't tell the different looking of Asian?

not to offend, but IMO yuzu can get a mark of 8-9/10 (i have turned off my fangirl filter) and boyang is 5/10.

My friends don't  follow figure skating at all, but most of them (even men) love yuzu's look and none of them prefer boyang (or even didn't notice him....at all)

even a pic of him without mentioning who he is can go viral on sns ...

As I  have his posters post full of my cube, most of my teammates (men or women) will drop by and appreciate those, some men even say if they had a face like that, maybe they don't need to work at all. And then I would answer, actually he works harder than you. And all of them agree Yuzu is the guy who can just make a living from his face, but he chose to make living by his talent and hard work.

So the scores at JO never get validated by the ISU system? Thanks for sharing that info.

I also think he might not do it because they don't do short programs. But JO is a lot of fun, because so many people are in the audience. Plus he can compete with Javi again if he competes at JO.

JO is some commercial events and i prefer he dont go to that, meaningless for him.

We must understand, he is very special and different in this area. His every performance every word is being analyzed via microscope, and others don't need to adjust their conditions for this kind of events,  if you look back at what other players did in previous JO, some of them fell into pieces, but no one will make essays on that.  But he will be criticized if he didn't show his good condition in such kind of competitions, no fun for him. He can relax in shows, even in shows his attitude is more sincere than others.

For others, life is much easier.

what I took  from Kaerb's translation was roughly the same, as in:

    1) the claim that someone was asking to badmouth Yuzu AND prop 3 other skaters couldn't be verified (hence it's possible the original claim wasn't to be taken at face value, and the reason of such a claim woud then be open to any kind of speculation)

    2) on Crowdworks, most requests for content about Yuzuru "merely" wanted something written about him, likely to get views (at this point mentioning him on media is quite a good bet to get clicks)*. It's entirely possible J-cast is doing exactly the same now - trying to get those views thanks to fans reacting to the article (and with that content, fans's strong reaction was predictable)

(*I guess it's also more likely to get clicks when posting positive things rather than negative stuff. afaik, sometimes fans have tried to "boycot" trash articles, so maybe "any press is good press" isn't always true...)

Well, I'd be a bit skeptical about Yuzu fans paying for positive content about Yuzuru (he doesn't really need it and thousands of people are doing that for free anyway, everyday, everywhere), and tbh, I don't think he needs to be painted as a victim though deception, there are already so many things in his life that make people "take his side"...tho I don't claim to know the minds of the most extreme fans, one can't deny extreme fans do exist in every fandom. On the other side, I find believable that people would want to have Yuzu content posted on their own websites, not on twitter or other platforms where they can't monetize on the views...

(as for antis jumping in to claim evil fanyus are the masterminds behind everything, well, I'm not surprised and tbh only a very naive evil mastermind wouldn't have forseen it. Making a claim that can't be supported with some kind of evidence is 100% sure to backfire badly)

(btw, @Moria Polonius, would you mind sharing the link to that website? PM is fine if you don't want to post it here)

I really like in the last post he talked about beauty, and that it means a dignified attitude for him which comes from 'an unshakeable core'. He is a beautiful person both inside and outside

    It's actually translated on FSU

He also talked a bit about 4Lo, that it's a mean jump.

okay, read that article from SV.  I really don't know why everybody thought skating after the poohs a big deal, imagine yuzuru had 24 cameras targting him from the moment he entered the arena even for warm up, cameras were following him until he closed the changing door, and the pressure he had at his home that nobody is qualified the podium before him.  And as i was there, i don't think his home treat him any good, we all know how JSF was talking before and after the game.

compared with that, 8 min pooh bears were really nothing, the standard for others is really low,  same as the the judges criteria.

    We satellites wish you well.

while taking look at the score of the WC, it seems only IOC of china showed their welcome, the chinese judges held the quite opposite attitude to him by giving him 93.5 pcs, and the lowest of all total score.

I unfortunately heard what he said and he is not overly enthusiastic about Nathan but he is probably trying not to showcase his bias...regardless he says things like 'Nathan has transitions out of his jumps' (because one of the guys questioned his lack of transitions so he said Nathan makes them after he lands......and I was like, where?) or that 'Vincent is more artistic than people realize' (he ranks Vincent higher than Kolyada from what I remember) and implies that Nathan IS superior to Yuzu because Yuzu has really bad posture in his opinion. He really drives that point home, to the point where he says his PCS scores/opinions rely almost solely on posture and musicality. He also implies Nathan is very musical, he might even think he's more musical than Yuzu.

okay,  i just don't understand, regarding the posture, i think yuzu's every movement in the competition are always shot by hundreds of cameras from almost all angles, and we they are post without editing right after the match,  everyone with eyes can see how his posture is, and also photographers are always expressing their admiration for this, and saying they can't miss a single movement of him and his bodyline, his movement inspired them to shoot because of the beauty he presents.

and about other guys especially the one i don't want to name here, did you see the pictures from canon interview yesterday?  better posture? really need the  definition of  posture  here.
