This is the first time I sat up and took notice of Deniss. His choreo was really interesting, that broken leg spin position was interesting, and that last spin was super fast. I can see Stephane's influence in his skating. Overall really enjoyable.

Kazuki did so well at his first WC and as a last minute replacement. Some of his jumps look UR and that LZ look like a Flip in real time so I'll be keeping an eye on the judge's score. Either way, well done keeping the 3 spot hope alive!

Just turned on Men LP to see Kenji's program recap. Japan's 3 spots in major danger.

I count 12 from ! man
4 outright e calls
27 < calls
4 << calls
He's scary! All skaters with iffy techniques should tremble with fear at his appearance.

Wtf, so now I have to go out in public and pretend everything is normal?! And this time I can't even yell about it to my Fanyu family like with the Olympics.
Favorite memory (other than our memelord successful defending his gold) is being able to scream/jump/cry with our Fanyu family after the event.

About more than half of the earnings for ticket sales in any competition are due to Japanese fans. Roughly 1/4 or 1/3 of sponsors in any event are Japanese companies. JSF should have more power if they play it correctly.
Or, more ideally, no federation should have power as big as the 3 giants.
I really think the fault lies in the lack of qualified ISU judges in Asia other than Japan and China. I've seen Malaysia, Singapore, and HK judges before I think. But the judging panel almost primarily makes up of European countries who bring their own preference and bias to the table. Hence the overuse of European music and programs.
Sorry off topic.

Spots in the end:
3 for Russia
2 for China, Canada, Italy, France, Germany
sad for China

So what nation is getting how many entries next year based on this result? Does this mean China only gets 2 pairs next World Championship? Russia got 3 spots for sure. What about Italy? They have a total of 15. Is that still 2 pairs?

I think it's just the order of placement? it's the same for ladies too
No because Mihkal would skate 5th in that case. They draw top 3 for last 3 and next 3 for first 3.

I know it's luck of the draw, but my god US fed and ISU is so ready to crown their new king aren't they?

So this is what it's going to be like once Yuzu r******...
When he gives up competing, can he at least have a 24hr live stream of that?
You gotta let him sleep and eat and watch anime sometimes. I'll magnanimously ask for a 18 hours daily livestream.
-
You know as much as we complain about the scores, outside of the crazy high PCS and questionable selective calling, this event wasn't overscored liked the Ladies SP Olympic event. Only 2 people over 100 points.
Man I miss Yuzu and Javi so much. They'd eat this group of youngsters for breakfast.

I'm sorry Kolyada getting +2.57 in his 4T combo is totally bull pickle. He clearly nearly lost control over the 3T landing and you're telling me that's Yuzuru level 4T combo? The Russian fed has much more power than I previously believed apparently.
Maybe it's because I stopped watching this GP season once Yuzuru was out, but I REALLY don't understand the love for Kolyada. I don't think he's a 9.0+ PCS skater at all and his jumps are scary unstable to be getting that kind of GOE all the time.

Shoma's boot issue just reminded me of the fiasco on Twitter... people were worried that he donated the working pair for his favorite yakiniku restaurant and it would affect his performance at Worlds. In retrospect, he might have done just that.
He did not!
Wait. it's Shoma. I TOTALLY believe it!

The only reason that I could think of why Boyang got those scores.... is because they know Boyang is a threat
I really don't get it. How did he score less than Kolyada on tech content when K did a 4T while B did a 4L? I mean my stream was total crap during his routine, but did he do those jumps that badly?

please tell me they.did not implement the steps before solo jump on boyang, he is borderline there...
Only saving grace, Nathan pcs did not go over 45.
44 is still too high for Nathan although his performance is much better today and that choreography and IN speaks for itself. 8.75 for transition is bull shit.

It's an issue that is completely avoidable. I personally do not accept boot issue as a good enough excuse for poor performances. Yep, I am a b*tch like that.
I'm with you so we're both bitches!

46+ PCS with that stumble.
Look, I don't want to sound cruel for being strict with a skater who is not 100%. But this is what I mean by judging based on perceived ability, instead of what is delivered the moment it happens.
Works in favour of Uno, Chen, Kolyada, and Zhou.
Works against Jin.
Agreed. Didn't Kolyada also have a stumble in the middle of his step sequence? I figured that's why he got a level 3, but it should be reflected in the SS as well. People with visible errors like that CLEARLY doesn't have superior control of their skating and should not be scoring 9.0+ on SS.
Edit: they gave Kolyada level 4 step sequence despite the visible stumble in the middle of it. Meanwhile Yuzu gets level 3 for his perfect Seimei StSq nearly all the time.

Sore foot from new boots.
New...boots...
seriously?!? Why aren't more people extra like Yuzu and have multiple pairs they rotate and break in? You don't ever hear about Yuzuru and boot issues.
-
Shoma....
Is he injured?
Edit: I'm sorry but he shouldn't have gotten 9.29 in skating skills when he clearly tripped over his blade.
Thoughts: Boyang underscored as usual. Nathan's PCS is a little high, but I'm okay with it for now. Scared for Team Japan and it's 3 spots.

Good bye Misha. You'll be missed!
On a side note, I love how his dad looks full on Chinese while Misha always looked eastern European or Russian to me, but when they sit next to each other you see the resemblance.
Also, whoa Tomono scored more than Kenji! I was not expecting that.

Beautiful skate as usual from Misha. His choreo sequence is so passionate. I loved the respect he paid to the ice and to his dad. He will be fiercely missed.
