Vol 12: [Special Feature] Hanyu answers your requests! Requests to YUZU! (Part 2)

Thank you for all the submissions to our special feature "Requests for YUZU!". This time, we bring you the second part of the series in which Hanyu answers the requests and questions sent in. Please enjoy Hanyu's responses, which can only be seen here.

Spoiler

Request 1
I'm a high school student, and I can't concentrate on my studies. How does Hanyu improve his concentration during competitions?

Reply from Hanyu①

I wasn’t really the type who could concentrate well on studying either. Even now, when I have to write university reports, I still think, “Ugh, I don’t wanna do this” (laughs). Getting myself to focus is the hard part...

In my case, when I can't concentrate, I try doing it for just one minute. Even just one minute, or thirty seconds. With a report, I’ll start by just writing one sentence. If I can’t think of what to write next, I’ll take a short break. Maybe two or three minutes. Then I’ll try writing another sentence. If I keep doing that, before I know it, I’m often able to keep going for five, ten, even thirty minutes.

During competitions, I get very nervous, unlike when I study. Figure skating is an individual sport, but I have so many people supporting and cheering for me. I think that makes it easier for me to focus.

Request 2
Please tell us which of Hanyu's programs you like so far? (Of course, we're sure you have a special attachment to each program, but if you have a choreography that you like, please let us know!)

Reply from Hanyu ②
My favorite song is the opening theme of "Ultraman Gaia", which I skated to in my first competition when I was 5 years old. I’ve loved Ultraman since back then, and it really left a strong impression on me.

I've also always liked Sing, Sing, Sing since I was little. It used to play during practice, and one day my coach said, “If you like this song so much, why don’t you try skating to it?” I was so happy. It’s still one of my favorites today.

A program that’s really fun to skate to is Change, the collaboration song by Monkey Majik and the Yoshida Brothers. Actually, it’s an intense program with almost no place to catch my breath, but it’s incredibly fun and one of my favorites.

I also have a very strong attachment to Romeo and Juliet from 2011, the year of the earthquake. And The Phantom of the Opera was a program I had always wanted to do… I could keep going on forever (laughs).

-YUZU Album-

In Toronto, I can relax and concentrate on my practice.

The cricket club has produced many champions.

The next YUZU DAYS will feature a video of Hanyu trying out P&G products. A special interview with Hanyu that can only be seen here will be released in early December. Look forward to it!

P&G’s ‘Message to Yuzu’ event.

Spoiler

During the dreadfully long off-season this year, when Yuzuru was in Toronto recovering from injury, and his participation at all Fantasy On Ice shows were cancelled, P&G invited fans to write their messages of support to him either online in their website (for members only) or at ice show venues.  All the messages were put into an album and given to him. From P&G article dated 31 Oct 2016:

His eyes opened wide at the size of the box and the thickness of the album.   He was surprised at the amount of messages.  He started reading them immediately and a smile naturally spread across his face.  He looked at the messages slowly one by one, murmuring with deep emotions, “So many people are supporting me…..”

The heartfelt support from everyone has surely become strength for him.   Thank you to all who sent in their messages!  And this is the message he wrote:

“Many messages have been delivered to me;  everyone’s thoughts and feelings have not been in vain.  To these thoughts and smiles, I can continue to skate with my best efforts.  Really, thank you so much.”

Yuzuru and P&G products - Washing Dishes

Spoiler

Usually I wash my own dishes.  In the morning, I often have cereal with milk, and because milk has fats, it does not wash off easily.   But when I use Joy, it helps to clean it well.

Also, Joy is concentrated, so it lasts for a long time.  When living in Toronto, there was once that the Joy brought from Japan was used up.  So we bought another brand of detergent and it ran out so quickly.  It also did not clean the dirty dishes easily.  At that time, I really felt that Joy is great!  (laughs)

In the video, at first he was asked to wash all the dishes.  He said, “Really???” and laughed.  At the end, he said, “Clean plates that you can eat from, please (use this to) do the washing-up every day.”

Yuzuru and P&G products - Doing the laundry

Spoiler

5 Dec 2016, Lenor video: “I perspire a lot.  Like a waterfall!  Doing sports, one will perspire, no matter what.  Sometimes, I have to do an interview after practice, so I am concerned about the smell of sweat.”  (opens bottle) “It smells so nice…. I almost want to pour it on myself.” (laughs)  “I am very thankful that this takes away the smell of sweat (from clothes).”

11 Jan 2017, Article (paraphrased briefly):  His mother washes his training clothes for him. He is the type that does not go out at all so the clothes he wears are training clothes only. His mother does the laundry and he has clean clothes to wear all the time, so he has peace of mind.

Video (below): Hanyu tries out the new ‘Bold Gelball’.

“I’m using my favourite Bold!”  After washing: “Look.  It’s new!  This whiteness. Nice smell.  It’s pure white.  I will use it.  Amazing….”

Spoiler

2017.01.09

-We asked Hanyu about some episodes involving sweating during practice.

My mother washes my practice clothes, but sometimes she urges me to hurry up and put the laundry out. (laughs) So I just throw everything, from top to bottom, into the washing machine. I usually don't hang out my practice clothes that much, so when they dry I just take them out and wear them, then practice and put them in the washing machine, wash them, hang them out, dry them, wear them... that's the cycle I've established. (laughs) I'm the type of person who never goes out, so I only wear practice clothes. When it comes to clothes, I feel a great peace of mind knowing that my mother washes them and I can always wear clean clothes.

Vol 13: Hanyu talks about the reason for his evolution and the strength he aims for

Last season, Hanyu achieved the feat of scoring over 300 points in two consecutive competitions, the NHK Trophy and the Grand Prix Final, and his Grand Prix Final record was even registered in the Guinness World Records. This season, he has further evolved, successfully completing the first-ever quadruple loop and attempting four types of quadruple jumps in his free program. Now that he has achieved the first-ever four-times consecutive victories at the Grand Prix Final, and with the World Championships in March just around the corner, what does the ever-evolving Hanyu think about "strength"? We asked him in an interview.

Spoiler

I think that true strength lies in the ability to withstand changes in the environment.

The “strength” that I think of isn’t just about ability, nor is it exactly the same as mental toughness. It’s more like strength in the moment... strength against the environment.

People naturally get nervous when their surroundings change, and it becomes hard to perform as they usually would. I think that’s true in any sport, and figure skating is no exception. Competitions don’t take place in the same environment as practice. In that kind of situation, I think those who can still perform the way they intend to are truly strong athletes.

For example, differences in how the body feels due to jet lag or long flights, or being affected by the atmosphere of the competition or the texture of the ice at the rink, these kinds of things can influence your performance. But the ones who can still deliver the same performance as in practice, exactly the way they imagined, the ones who can give their all in spite of those conditions, those are the truly strong athletes.

In that sense, I still have a long way to go. To be able to perform perfectly without being affected by changes in environment. That, I think, is the true definition of “strength.”

I want to become a skater who can give my all in any competition

In competitions, I think you have to be the kind of athlete who can stay completely focused and bring out your full strength, peaking at just the right time. I really want to aim for that. The reason I admire Evgeni Plushenko is also because of that. I’ve been watching him since I was little, and even if he leans forward a bit on a jump or something, he never falls. He really doesn’t make mistakes. I’ve hardly ever seen him fail in a competition. He is the true, absolute champion. I want to become a skater like Plushenko, someone who doesn’t waver and can give their best performance in any competition.

The challenge for the future is to see how much I can build something I can believe in

In different environments—like how the texture of the ice differs depending on the rink—when you jump under those conditions, figuring out how to develop a sense of how to jump really comes from experience. In the end, it’s all about your own senses. It’s not something someone else can teach you; it comes down to whether or not you can believe in yourself. As long as you have something you can believe in, that’s enough. If, in that split second before taking off for a jump, you pay close attention and believe “I can land this,” there are definitely times when you really can land it.

I like listening to interviews with various athletes and coaches. Every single one of them has their own theory, some sort of thing they “believe in.” I think what I believe in changes, depending on my mental state or physical condition. But how flexibly I can respond to those changes, and how many experiences I can build that become things I can believe in, that’s the challenge I see for myself going forward.

The next YUZU DAYS will bring you the second part of Hanyu's story about his evolution, "Towards even greater heights." We will uncover the secret behind Hanyu's evolution as he continues to strive for even greater heights without settling for the status quo. It is scheduled to be released in early March! Please look forward to it.

Vol 14: Hanyu talks about the reason for his evolution, "Towards even greater heights"

Olympic champion and current world record holder. And while he is the first skater in history to have won the Grand Prix Final four times in a row, Hanyu says, "I still have a long way to go in skating." We will uncover the secret behind Hanyu's evolution as he continues to strive for even greater heights without being content with the status quo.

Spoiler

The ultimate competitive person. That's why I can move forward.

I think I’m extremely competitive. I absolutely want to win every single competition, and I never want to feel frustrated or disappointed. Even during training, on days when I can’t land my jumps, it feels like I’m losing to myself, and that frustrates me to no end. I’m basically the ultimate competitive person. (laughs)

But my competitiveness isn’t just about winning or losing in competitions. It’s more like, if I make a mistake, I feel like I’ve lost to the version of myself that hasn’t grown enough. Once I’ve decided “this is the performance I want to do,” then it has to be that performance, nothing else will do. Even when I’m able to pull it off, because I’m so stubborn, I’ve rarely ever been satisfied with it.

Still, I think failures and frustration are a kind of experience. Because of failure, I can reflect. Because I feel frustrated, that emotion can become a driving force. I think that’s why I’m always able to keep moving forward.

Figure skating is a multifaceted sport. Even if you're stuck, you can evolve in other areas.

Figure skating has many components—jumps, spins, steps—and it requires not just skating technique but also expressive ability. It’s an incredibly multifaceted sport. Even if there’s one thing that doesn’t go well, you can improve in other areas. For example, even if you're struggling with jumps, you can work on your steps, spins, or expressiveness. If you're willing to look for them, there are endless areas where you can grow. As long as you don’t set your own limits, you can keep improving endlessly.

Even if I reach a point in the future where I can no longer jump due to age, I should have refined my expressiveness even more by then, so I’ll have improved in a different way. When I think of it like that, I feel like I can still evolve a lot. That’s why I think figure skating is such a fascinating sport.

I believe that everyone who supports me is part of the team fighting alongside me.

Figure skating is a sport performed alone on the ice, but the bigger the competition, the more people there are supporting a single athlete. There are people who help me build the body needed to reach the ice, coaches who teach, staff and members involved with the team. And then there's my mother, who supports everything from daily life to the competitions, and the audience members who send their cheers from the stands.

All of those people are heading in the same direction and fighting together with me. I feel like I’m competing as part of a team. It's because I can feel that I'm not alone, that these people are here for me, that I can stay focused and give my best. I'm truly grateful for the people who support me.

Yuzuru and P&G products - Smells & scents

Spoiler

“I am rather sensitive to smells. When I travel, there are times when I am bothered by the smell of the room, so recently I have been bringing along a room fragrance spray and eye masks with a nice smell. I like calming scents like lavender and chamomile. Being surrounded by a nice scent before sleeping, I can relax and the quality of sleep is also improved. Sleep is ‘maintenance time’ for healing body and mind. It is very important to restore the mood/feeling, so scents help with that.”

“When I participate in ice shows, I am very much indebted to 'Febreze’. (laughs) The temperature at ice show venues are set higher than at competitions, so that customers do not have to protect themselves from the cold and it would be more comfortable for them. But it is hard for the performers as we perspire a lot more compared to competitions.

Our costumes are delicate and need to be hand washed, but sometimes there are 2 shows in one day and there is not enough time (for washing and drying). At those times, I will spray Febreze, 'shu’, directly on the costume. It can remove smells and germs. Plus, it has a nice fragrance, so I can go for the next show with a good feeling.”

Yuzuru and P&G products - Scent of laundry softener

Spoiler

“I do not like strong smells like perfume. When I pass by duty-free shops in the airport, there are times that my nose itches due to the cosmetics and perfumes. But the subtle smell of the softener from clothes is very natural and I think it is a nice scent. The smell of the laundry or the smell of home gives me the feeling of "my own fragrance”, and I feel very secure.

When I change into clean training clothes, the soft smell puts me at ease and I switch to enter into “Alright, now I will work hard and do my best!” Mother knows me well and so the softener is not changed much, and with the nice scent, I can practise comfortably.

After training, I put my sweaty training clothes ‘poi’* into the washing machine and I leave the rest to Mother. Having clean, nicely scented clothes to wear and being able to train with peace of mind seems like something very ordinary, but it is not to be taken for granted! I am very grateful to Mother who has to grapple with a big load of laundry every day.

I hear from Mother that she combines 'Lenor Happiness’ with 'Aroma Jewel’ so that we can enjoy varying scents. The fragrance does not get stronger but instead, there is a wider range of it. I really appreciate Mother’s thoughtfulness to such an extent.“

(*poi = a sound like throwing clothes into the washer)

Special interview with P&G products: "Braun Oral B is my favorite product"

Spoiler

This time, we bring you a special interview about P&G products. Yuzuru Hanyu, who charms fans with his refreshing "Yuzu Smile", has been using Braun Oral B electric toothbrushes for the past three years. We asked him about what he likes about them and how they feel to use.

~~ Interview with Yuzuru Hanyu ~~~

It’s really easy to use because you can just glide it along as you brush

I’ve been using Braun Oral-B for three years now, and I’m on my second one. I use the model called “Platinum Black 7000.” It’s really easy to use because you don’t have to move your hand much and you just glide it along as you brush. The way it feels in my hand is just right, not too heavy or too light, and it fits comfortably, making it easy to aim the brush exactly where I want. Also, what I think is really great is how well the battery lasts. For trips, if I fully charge it beforehand, it lasts so long, about five days to a week, that I don’t even need to bring the charger. That’s really helpful.

With so many modes and brush types, you can enjoy taking care of your teeth

It also has a navigation feature to guide your brushing. For example, in the standard mode where you brush for a total of two minutes, it divides your mouth into four sections — upper and lower, left and right — and tells you to brush each area for 30 seconds. It vibrates every 30 seconds. After two minutes, a smiley face appears on the monitor. There are other modes too, like deep cleaning mode and whitening mode. There are brushes like the “Interdental Wiper Brush” that thoroughly clean between the teeth, and small brushes that reach the areas between your teeth and gums. I enjoy thinking about which combination to use and how to brush that day. I have fun while taking care of my teeth.

Teeth are really important for skaters

When doing jumps or spins, we bite down hard, and if the bite alignment is off, or if our teeth are sensitive or hurt, we can’t put in full strength. Even if the gums are just slightly irritated or congested, it can cause pain in the teeth. So for skaters, teeth are very important. But since I started using Braun Oral-B, the condition of my teeth has been really good. My teeth hardly ever feel sensitive anymore, and I don’t think I’ve had any new cavities either. I really do use Braun Oral-B a lot.

Vol 15: YUZURU'S Private Life Part 1 "Life in Toronto, Canada"

It has been five years since he moved to Toronto, Canada in the spring of his 17th year. Hanyu feels a sense of fulfillment every day as he practices and is inspired by his peers who compete at the world's top level. How does he spend his private time? In this two-part series, we will be taking a look at his daily life and how he spends his days off. In the first part of YUZURU's PRIVATE, he talks about his life in Canada, his everyday belongings, fashion, and diet.

Spoiler

Life in Canada

– From Sendai, where he lived with his family, Yuzuru Hanyu moved to Toronto, Canada with his mother. We asked him about his impression of Toronto as a place to live.

Toronto is rich in nature and very beautiful

Toronto is really rich in nature and beautiful, isn’t it? Even though it’s called a residential area, it is surrounded by many large trees like a forest, and I think, “Ah~ it’s beautiful again today~.” Sendai is also said to be the “City of Forests,” so it has a lot of nature, but in Sendai, I didn’t have that much interaction with nature. Now, when there is a plant I’m curious about, I ask my mother, “What is this flower?” There are also many flowers blooming that I don’t see in Japan, and I often see squirrels and small birds like robins. Being able to live surrounded by nature somehow makes me feel very relaxed, or rather, I think it’s nice.

Belongings and Fashion

-The things you carry every day and what you wear reveal your usual self. We asked Hanyu about the contents of the bag he always carries and his fashion.

I always travel with a big backpack.

When I go on a trip for competitions, I put a big backpack with games, earphones, a music player, a portable speaker, and self-care items like massage balls. I'm particularly picky about earphones, and I always pack several pairs with me. At first, I started by looking for earphones that wouldn’t fall out while practicing. But as I tried out different ones, I got hooked on the unique sound each one has, and now I have over 50 pairs.  From those, depending on whether I want to listen to sound faithfully, raise my mood, or prefer sparkling sounds with clear highs, or a thumping deep bass, or a mild warm sound, I choose earphones according to my mood and purpose.

Fashion is About Functionality.

I’m not very interested in fashion trends. If anything, I prioritize functionality. Since I often wear tracksuits for practice, I’m particular about stretchiness and how they feel on the skin. For example, in regular training, I choose thin but sturdy materials that stretch well. When traveling by plane, because it can be cold, I select thicker clothes that are also breathable. Since coming to Toronto, I don’t go shopping much, so I ask stylists during photo shoots or look things up online, always searching for clothes that feel comfortable to wear.

About Diet

— In Toronto, where the food environment is different from Japan, what kind of diet does Hanyu maintain to build stamina and keep in good condition? We also asked about his feelings toward his mother, who supports his eating habits.

I’m supported by my mother’s home cooking

In Toronto, my mother always cooks my meals. She always asks me, “What do you want to eat today?” She understands that what I can eat and what I can’t depends on how I’m feeling at that time. She makes things like grilled meat to give me strength, and she thoughtfully prepares meals with good nutritional balance that are easy for me to eat at that moment. I’m truly grateful for that.

I think my mother must be very tired, having to stay up late to communicate with Japan due to the time difference, constantly speaking English when overseas, and accompanying me to my practice sessions. Not just physically, but mentally too. I have breaks, but my mother has none. But maybe it’s just my feeling, I think my mother is also fighting alongside me. I’m really thankful to my mother who supports all aspects of life in Toronto.

The next issue of YUZU DAYS will deliver the second part of YUZURU'S private life, titled “How He Spends His Off Time.” We will take a closer look at how Hanyu spends his usual days off, his studies, school life, and more about his private side. Scheduled to be released in early August! Stay tuned.

Vol 16: YUZURU'S Private Life Part 2 "How he spends his off time"

Hanyu is a top skater, but he is also a 22-year-old university student. This time, we asked him about how he spends his off-time. In the second part of YUZURU'S PRIVATE, he talked about how he usually spends his off-time, his studies and school, and the "skate notebook" that he keeps every day.

Spoiler

How He Spends His Time Off

— Hanyu says, “I’m in Canada for skating.” But how does he spend his time when he’s not practicing? We asked about how he spends his time off the ice.

During his time off, he researches jumps and does image training

Relaxing by playing my favorite games during my time off is also important, but I might spend more time researching jumps and doing image training. I have my performances recorded and check various things while watching the videos. Since I can see my reflection in the living room window glass, I move my hands and confirm my jumps there.

About studying and school

— Hanyu is currently studying through the correspondence course at Waseda University. During the off-season, when he is not on the ice, he basically spends his time studying, and he also reads books often in his daily life. What kind of books is he interested in, and what is he studying at university?

I often read books about psychology and the human body

Originally, I’ve been interested in psychology such as cognitive psychology and clinical psychology, as well as the nervous system and sensory organs of the human body, so I often read books about those topics. Recently, I’ve been researching sleep through books and the internet, and reading books about self-care and how to use your body, which I’m interested in now. Probably since I was little, I’ve been thinking a lot about tension and relaxation, so those fields feel more familiar to me. Also, in my case, I have many opportunities to put into practice what I read in books through skating.

By combining what I’ve learned from books and school with my own experience, I’ve come to understand things in my own way. I’ve learned that what I used to feel as a sensation or notice as a phenomenon actually has scientific evidence behind it, and I can confirm that, which is really interesting.

I studied communication in university classes

At university, I’m studying human sciences, and recently I found my education classes very interesting. The professor is a really interesting person, and by learning about communication between the teacher and “myself as a student,” I was made to think a lot about the relationship between my coach and “myself as a skater.” For example, how I receive things as someone being taught, and how to ask questions. It became an opportunity to think about what would be good to do going forward so that, as a coach and skater, the two of us can have better learning and better practice together.

Hanyu’s “Skate Notebook”

— Hanyu writes down things he notices and thinks about every day in a notebook. This is called his “Skate Notebook.” What exactly does he write in it? And how does he use this notebook?

I write down things I consider important in my notebook

I quite like reading books by university professors, reference materials from my studies, and books in fields I’m interested in, like I mentioned earlier, and I write down parts that catch my attention in my notebook. Also, I write about things I thought were important or came to mind during that day’s practice, as well as my emotional changes. I call this my “Skate Notebook.” For example, I write down things like what kind of practice I did that day, the scores I got, and I also record how my mental state was at the time. When I struggle with jumps, of course, there are technical issues, but mental aspects are also big. At times like that, I flip through the notebook and realize, “Oh, I wrote this kind of thing back then.”

-For Hanyu, his off-time was more than just a time to relax; it was a time to "research" as a skater and "learn" as a student.

The next YUZU DAYS will feature a special video of Yuzuru Hanyu trying out P&G products, which has been well received since last year. It is scheduled to be released in mid-September! Look forward to it!

Vol 17: Hanyu talks about his gratitude to his mother

At the age of 17, Hanyu moved to Toronto, Canada, and has been living abroad with his mother for six years now. In a previous interview, he said, "If my mother weren’t here, I couldn’t live in Canada." We asked him once again about his feelings of gratitude toward his mother.

Spoiler

My mother cooks for me and creates a comfortable environment for me

Now, I live in Canada with my mother. It’s already been six years. My mother makes all the meals. The taste of my mother's cooking, which I've had since I was little, really brings a sense of comfort, and there's a kind of peace of mind that you can only get from that. She also does the laundry every day, keeps the house and my surroundings tidy, and creates a comfortable environment for me... I really grateful for the kind of care that only a mother can provide.

Even though the whole family isn’t here, the house in Canada, well, calling it “my home in Toronto” might sound a bit odd, but it truly feels like my own home. I think that is because my mother is always by my side in Toronto, and she creates the "atmosphere" around me, such as the taste of the food and the smell of the laundry.

A bond and love that don’t need words are what supports me

I really talk about everything with my mother. I’m the type who just says whatever’s on my mind, so I often blurt out everything to her. (laughs)
Because we’re parent and child, we can say all kinds of things to each other. Sometimes we argue, but we also share joy and happiness together.
And on the other hand, it’s also my mother who gives me space when I need it. When I want to be left alone, she somehow just knows without me having to say anything.

Parent and child, after all, come from the same cell, right? I think there’s a kind of bond and love between a parent and child that doesn’t need to be put into words to be understood. I think that this "closeness" is what ultimately supports me emotionally.

I believe that my mother, who watches over and supports me, is fighting together with me

I think watching skating from the perspective of a mother must be incredibly nerve-wracking. My older sister used to skate, so I understand this well from watching her competitions. It's really tough being on the viewing side. You get extremely nervous. For the one competing, since what they have to do in the competition is more or less decided, the sense of concentration becomes stronger than the nervousness. But the nervousness of the supporters, I think it’s so intense it can make your stomach hurt. They watch over you with a feeling like they’re praying. Because I understand that, I feel that my mother is fighting together with me, too. I want to take in the feelings of my mother who has always supported me and fought alongside me, and use them in my skating.

Yuzu: “At the age of 17, when I moved my base from Sendai to Toronto, of course I was anxious. My mother came with me (to Toronto). She looked for the ingredients to cook Japanese meals and also did all my laundry so that I can concentrate on my training. She has been supporting me and my dream like nothing is too much for her. For that, I am very grateful.”

Words on screen:
The hardest job in the world
is the greatest job in the world.

Yuzu: “Okaasan, arigato (Thank you, Mum).”

Yuzuru and P&G products: Febreze + Lenor Happiness

Spoiler

Video#1 - Febreze
“When travelling for competition and such, there are times when washing clothes is not possible, and this really helps.  I am the type that sweats a lot. There is also not enough time to dry the clothes in regions with high humidity. Those kind of times, I rely on Febreze.
(About the new product:)
It will be like Febreze and it will also be like me. Because it is a collaboration, I think it’s good to have a design that you will know "it’s Hanyu-senshu, right?” at first sight.  Making my own design, I am thinking about it seriously, please look forward to it.“

Video#2- Lenor Happiness:
"Mm.. the smell is very sweet.
I am the type that does not use any perfume, so the fragrance of clothes is important.
[looking at bottles] There are many types of fragrance… that’s one good thing about Lenor.
It is a collaboration with Lenor;  I will do whatever I can, packing in various things.  Please look forward to it!”

2 Yuzuru Hanyu and Febreze collaboration –bottles designed with Hanyu’s Olympic costumes!

Hanyu-senshu’s inspiration grew from the (normal) packaging of Febreze. “These look like ice crystals.”  From there, “would it be good to make the packaging itself like costumes?” and this idea was born. The initial plan was to have only one design, but it became 3 designs due to the 3 costumes for this season.

In the video, he says:
“unn… I’m seriously having trouble (with this)”
“Because I’m the type that thinks a lot.” [laughs]
“I like that kind (of thing)….”
[pointing at bottle] “This gives the feeling of ice crystals.”
“It should be like Febreze…. and also like me.”
“The image of my costumes is often blue…”
“Shall we do the package itself to be like a costume…”
"This side to be mainly the costume…."

Some info:  Limited edition packaging;  only 10,000 bottles available – 4000 for short program costume, 4000 for free skate costume and 2000 for exhibition costume.  You have to win a lucky draw in order to buy it. :)
