You're welcome. There was a short feature that breaks down Yuzu's 4T (PW @ Sochi). Its title is "At the speed of 4.29m/sec" (literal TL). Though it's in Japanese, the graphical presentation should not be too much of a barrier. I want to dig that out, too. Maybe I put out a request at the media group.

Yes!! I love his appreciation of Boyang. The fact that he always acknowledges Boyang in his interviews warms my cold heart - especially since everyone always seems to forget or dismiss Boyang for some reason. That's why I feel like they'd actually make a great team.

Sweet to look at, too, with similar builds and comparable skin :pbow:

  4. Wow. What a wonderful planet!!

I came to know about the books through the movies. Yup, the historic (if you like) cinematic years when the audience had Harry Potter and LotR side by side. I was reading a magazine article featuring HP but it mentioned briefly that LotR, the iconic fantasy classics, was also coming to the cinema at about the same time. Out of curiosity I googled about the movie. Then I saw excerpts of the FotR trailer on TV. The rest is history.
I saw all three instalments in the theatre. When RotK was on, I was visiting my friend in New York City. We went to the movie together. And we both cried when the credit roller started.
In the book, I like Gandalf the best. Aragon is my second most fav. But in the movies, I like Aragon the best (mesmerising performance by Viggo Mortensen). I went to FotR twice only to see Viggo again...
I caught up with the novels before RotK was shown. I like Silmarillion even better as I love the Elves. But I haven't read Unfinished Tales. It will be quite a journey to go through the whole collection, novels and The History of Middle-Earth series.

I also like Alan Lee's illustrations.

I don't really follow Shoma and most of the stuff I read about him is by chance.haha..  But, I do agree that I don't find him as 'innocent' as most people seem to. Still, I feel like he'd still be useless for some reason. hahaha... Hmmmm... I'm imagining a scenario: I feel like Javi and Patrick are likely to form an alliance. Yuzu will offer one to Shoma but Shoma will decline and I think he'd end up partnering with Boyang. Nathan will try to do things on his own. But... if it's a battle royale type scenario.. there are also weapons right?

And also that device fastened on the neck that the contestants can't take off...
Yuzu never hides his appreciation of certain skaters but I'm particularly impressed by his interaction with Boyang. That NHK one-liner ("Your jumps are amazing") kinda marked the beginning of friendliness. At the Helsinki gala finale, there was a moment when he skated from one side of the partying crowd to the other side, to talk to Boyang. Yuzu is a man of deeds and he always lets his deeds do the talking. These gestures, simple and casual as they were, did tell something about Yuzu.

Thank you so much for posting this interview! Someone had told me the story of Yuzuru reacting to the 'Javi' chorus and doing a 3A and thinking that he wanted all of them to watch him, but they didn't link it to any interview! I am glad I can hear him say it. In this interview, he feels particularily emotional. I love when he shows his most aggressive side.

You are welcome. He also gave interview to Matsuoka after surpassing the historic 300-point barrier at NHK.

Fear after breaking the WR? Of what, losing? Being chased? Pressure?

Inadvertently I replied to you in a new post. Here it is:

"I re-viewed that part again to make sure I got it right.
Yuzu said, in hindsight, he recognised he had cried because he had tasted the kind of pressure that comes along with a WR. He cited the example of Michelle Kwan, who was considered Miss Perfect, having won the Worlds but did not win the Olympics. He said at that particular moment (at the K&C), he understood the kind of pressure she had faced."

I wouldn't say that he will always be alone. I'd say that his skating career is a fight he has to do by himself - with the support of many people off-ice, but his own strenght on ice, alone.

But I feel like him saying that he feels 'lonely' is because of his loneliness on a private level. He has tons of love from all around the world, but the love one craves the most is the one we can fall asleep to, and wake up to. So, as long as Yuzuru is fighting this fight, he'll probably endure this loneliness for a little while longer. But after he r****s, a new life will begin for him, I am sure of it.

Sure. I should have stated it more clearly. I was talking about the loneliness he has to endure in his skating career.

It's always easy to be the chaser than the top of the top. That's why most Olympic gold medalists r****d, lost motivation or just withdrew from most competitions after wining Olympic. Yuna didn't come back to GP series after Vancouver. Plushenko also didn't do GP or even WC after 2005.

No men in the field could understand the pressure that Yuzuru is enduring in every competition.

The mentality of being the ice king comes with a huge price. I can't understand how people dare call Yuzuru as weak. I laugh at people calling his rivals as having nerves of steel and Yuzuru not.

The other men are not mentally stronger than Yuzuru. They're just at better place to feel less stress.

I dare all the current men to compete with the pressure Yuzuru has suffered in the last 4 years. I am sure all of them would rather not being on top for such pressure and attention.

That's why Nathan doesn't seem to stick around for 2022. He just wants to be the chaser, easier to do, and be done with it.

So true. He cried after breaking the WR (again) in 15 GPF - he admitted in an interview to Shuzo Matsuoka that he did it out of fear. But he never runs away from his genius and talent and what comes with the crown. It's hard getting to the top, but the ultimate test is staying there braving the winds and clouds at all times. I'm afraid Yuzu will always be alone.

  11. I like the British uncles (Simon and Chris). It was love at first sight for Simon when he commented on Yuzu's SP at 2011 CoC - "He is pencil-thin but packed with power and real talent. A new name to me but I won't forget it. Yuzuru (he mis-pronounced as Yuzuri) Hanyu from Japan." :pbow:

I also like Kurt Browning who has the right mix of information and humour. He was thrilled by Yuzu's 3A at the end of his FS at 17 4CC, and he compared Yuzu to Wayne Gretzky, who is considered the greatest ice hockey player ever, when commenting on Yuzu's FS at the 2017 WTT. He appreciates the young skaters' quad efforts but is also frank about the reservation he holds: "My theory is [when] you're doing [four, five] quads in a long [programme], how long can you maintain that level of skating? You got to enjoy it while it's working for you." He may be also referring to Yuzu in saying so, but he certainly has high regards for him.

Well, apparently Yuzuru is very sensitive to the surrounding that's why he is so emotional. He can feel bad or good energy from people. He has great mentality, of course every one has weaknesses but of all the men in the top, his mental strength is the strongest.

He isn't calm and collected and he doesn't act so chill like Nathan Chen for example. But he can be strongest when needed. And after all those years, he has proved he is the leader people always look up to,

Without Yuzuru as the leader, the men can not reach where they are today. And if Yuzuru just do not take the burdens, the rest of the men will be clueless.

In a Japanese documentary aired after the 2016 Worlds, Yuzu said he is lonely and he recognised this as the price to pay for staying on top of his game. He said he had to shut down from the world so that he could focus on skating. He said he is weak because if he were strong enough, he wouldn't be affected emotionally.
Yuzu is honest about his fears, and he always strives to turn pressures into propellants.
He is the driving force for the development of figure skating and, with or without admitting, the young guns owe (partly) what they've accomplished to him.

He'd take on a leader role immediately and coordinate the construction of a survival shelter and hunting duties, but basically be unable to do any of those things himself. Oh wait, do you mean survival of the fittest a la Battle Royale or survival of the group?

If BR is in context I think Yuzu will either win or sacrifice himself to help the person he trusts the most to win. He surely won't be the killer machine (awesomely played by Ando Masanobu).

  14. Would Yuzuru's sexuality matter to me? No.
    Am I curious? Not really.
Nothing is impossible - Yuzuru has proved this with his skating.
Is he girly? Yes, look at his costumes on the rink.
Is he manly? Yes, one tough fighter.
    So what is he?
Someone from Planet Hanyu, a skating genius transcending gender, culture, and orthodoxy.
    Someone beyond definition.

Aw, I am fine. I was in the hospital for 2 weeks for a major surgery (and because of that I am broke now lol).

I used to read a lot of books but recently I read quite less. Now I am picking up that old habit again.

Anyone here has read this book: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/343.Perfume

I like it a lot and I have read it again several times.

I've known about it for as long as I've loved reading:D
I saw the movie adaptation though.
I've spent most of my free time on Japanese animation and comics in recent years. Now I want to catch up (a bit) with reading.

Just want to share two beautiful notes. My apology for rule-bending (if any) :pbow:

I wanted to buy 'The Buried Giant' too,but I've read several negative reviews of it and, since,as I said before,he's kind of hit or miss for me in general,I decided to pass on it.Other than 'Never Let Me Go',I've read 'The Unconsoled','A Pale View of Hills' and 'Nocturnes(a collection of 5 short stories)'.I also own 'The Remains of the Day' and 'An Artist of the Floating World',but I haven't read them yet,and the latter will probably be the next book from him I'll read, but I don't think it's gonna happen this year.

Regarding adaptations of Ishiguro's books, there's a 'Never Let Me Go' movie from 2010,directed by Mark Romanek, starring Carey Mulligan,Andrew Garfield and Keira Knightley, and the movie is quite known and loved, especially on places like tumblr.I loved it too, but,in my opinion, the book is way better.

Thanks for the movie reminder. Keira has done quite some literature-based movies. And a little Andrew episode to share with you - I only found this out when I re-watched the documentary (post-Social Network):D

  18. I just want to say Twin Peaks is returning and praise be!

I missed it when it was first aired on the local English channel but I remembered Agent Cooper and Audrey and Julee Cruise's angelic voice (and Joan Chen). I rented the movie but forgot everything except the dwarf......def checking it out this time (and a bit of catching up). Thanks!

My recent viewing also included Omyoji (2001), the first of the two movies starring Mansai Nomura as the lead character Seimei. I was just blown away by Nomura-san's performance. I also saw Shin Godzilla (Godzilla Resurgence) (2016), where he played Godzilla through motion capture. This is probably the best Godzilla movie that's ever been made.

He was Godzilla?! I had no idea! I first saw him in The Floating Castle (actually in Ran but I had no idea it was him) and thought he was fantastic. I was going through a Noh phase at the time and was very interested to find he was a kyougen actor. I then found some workshops he did at The Globe Theatre about Shakespeare on Youtube which were very interesting.

But then I saw The Orient Express and... everything else was perfect and what a shame. It was just bizarre. I suppose Shin Godzilla makes up for that a little bit. One of the only movies I've bothered to sit throgh more than once in a cinema.

(Please, Yuzu, we need a Godzilla program for the Olympics.)

He did quite some Shakespeare and he taught kids the Japanese language on TV. This NHK documentary is wonderful.

I also saw Scanner (2016) in which he plays a man who can read the memory of living people thro their personal items or trails. And his character is also a Manzai artist.

I will check out The Floating Castle, thanks! And save The Orient Express for the weekend:D

He will play an Ikenobo master of Ikebana (the Japanese art of flower arrangement) in a 2017 period movie Hanaikusa :pbow:

  20. Hello from Hong Kong!

Million thanks to all the people who make such a wonderful planet for everything about the one and only Yuzuru Hanyu.

I am a fan for Japanese comics and animation, and I focus on team sports.

I knew nothing about figure skating or skaters when I fell for Yuri on Ice.

I still have a lot to catch up but I have a feeling that I will become more interested in figure skating than the animation that drew me to Yuzuru in the first place.

Once again, better late than never.

I feel lucky getting to know Yuzuru.

Wow, another Yuzu in the vicinity (I'm from Macau) :pbow:

    Welcome to all new members!!

Hello!I came across another Yuzu fan on Weibo, who is from HK. But I don't know if she's on the planet.
