Looking forward to listening to the CBC interview. I'm in California and today we were ordered to "shelter-in-place" for 3 weeks. Stay at home except for food and medicine. I've heard that non-critical surgeries have been delayed (non-critical as in a slow-growing cancerous tumor?!).

I have not been able to keep with this thread (it moves so fast!). As someone who sustained a serious ankle injury, two of three ligaments torn, I think healing and rehab will take months, not weeks. The "off the cuff" advice from the initial doctor (without full assessment) was 3 weeks IF HE DOES NOT SKATE. Well, he skated and damaged his ankle even more. Ligament tears do not ever "heal" completely. They will regenerate a little at the ends but will not fuse. Two of my ankle ligaments look like zipper teeth (unzipped). I have one intact ligament left. I would be happy if he never jumped 4Lo, 4Lz or 4A or any quad. He's already raised the bar so much technically, but clearly has much more to offer artistically. Non-fans are complimenting Otonal as a very rich program and see him in a different light.

It is my understanding that since ANA sponsors Yuzu, they restrict his endorsements to 5 other companies. To avoid diluting his "brand". Lotte P&G Phiten 2 more - one is bedding?

Yes Yuzu for years has had trouble keeping weight ON. He doesn’t have much of an appetite and apparently food moves through his digestive system slowly. He has an easier time maintaining his weight (meaning, keeping it up) while competing. I’m sure Ajinomoto expects daily weight reports (and you are supposed to do it at the same time every day). It sounds like he was perplexed when Phil Hersh asked him about his weight during his press conference at Olys.

I’m American and have been watching figure skating off and on for more than 40 years. In my opinion, American media is very focused on American skaters. It’s rather limiting I think. Did you read Dani’s report about the Olympics Men’s SP and the American journalists who had never heard of Yuzuru? There has been more coverage of Yuzuru’s fans and Pooh than about Yuzuru’s skating. Quite a few North Americans seem uncomfortable with Yuzu’s androgynous look and love of ”feminine” costumes. Kurt Browning (who does appreciate Yuzu’s skating) said his R&J 2 Boobskirt was not befitting an Olympic champion. I think partly what forum members are reacting to is the contrast between Japanese media coverage of skating and American. Japanese commentators spend time educating the audience about skating and scoring. They try to provide overall positive, informative commentary about ALL skaters, while acknowledging when someone is-having a tough skate. I don’t wish there was less coverage of Nathan, only that the coverage is broader and more inclusive. Ironically, I think if American coverage was more balanced with a diversity of skaters, interest in skating would increase.

Definitely true. There is a poster on GS that lives in Toronto. She’s seen Yuzu a few times and said she wants to respect his privacy so does not try to talk with him. I would hope that everyone would do the same.

Oct 2013 I think he passed Patrick. Yuzu has been #1 in World Standings for more than 4 years.

I find it HILARIOUS that Yuzu is so bad at the other winter sports! Speed Skating: falls and finishes last Curling: a pathetic push so that despite Misha's frantic sweeping, bottle barely moves Figures: going straight forwards and backwards using the wall instead of skating around the obstacles. The other skaters were teasing him!

Sorry I misspoke. Shoma went back. I assumed due to the many interviews that Yuzu was back too. My bad.

Since this is Javi's 3rd Olympics, he probably feels like he's had the Olympic village experience. Yuzu and Shoma both went back (Shoma is picking up his white jeans costume I believe).

Jackie tweeted that Yuzuru had a “fine” practice. Many fans are so grateful that he tweeted everything Yuzu said at the press conference in real time.

when i woke up this morning, I went looking for updates and thought this was a joke....yikes! Glad to see he's well-protected though. On Yuzu's left looks like a JSF official, with airport personnel in front (or maybe ANA)? Then the security guards.

New York Times Sunday magazine article on the "artistic" side of skating featuring Jason Brown. There was a hilarious quote from the author's husband complaining about Nathan and his very "technical program". “No, I don’t like this,” my husband announced as Chen swept over the ice like Darth Vader. “I don’t want tricks. I want a guy wearing a see-through leotard who’s pretending to be a swan.”

USA article on Yuzuru! TIME magazine is widely read - nice to see Yuzuru acknowledged as perhaps the "greatest figure skater of all time". http://time.com/5129950/yuzuru-hanyu-figure-skating-2018-olympics/
