It's his new LP ... I don't hate the music but it's a Gala/Show music imo, too ... ugh .. what was he thinking ...

This is his FS?  I hate it

The last minute or so is watchable but before that it's bad. This kind of music requires specialised moves and not arm flailing that he and most other skaters have been doing for ages. I am not even sure the first song works for skating. It felt like he was skating while the radio was on and a random song started playing. Who choreographed this?

Please tell me this is an EX, else I don't think I will be watching Nathan this season  :noshake:

I totally agree! I watched his ice show performance and I think this doesn't work as a free program. I mean, the music itself isn't bad. It's just not suitable for a competitive FS program, IMHO. And the choreography is... questionable. It looked to me like a lot of random movements that don't fit the music.

Has Nathan already officially announced his SP for this season? Will it be that Charles Aznavour song? If that's the case then I have to say that this piece seems to me like it's also very difficult to perform as a competitive figure skating program.

Well, if Nathan's intention is to challenge himself with two programs that are very difficult to interpret and perform well this season, then he's definitely already achieved that goal. I just hope that he'll manage to improve both programs and they will look better when competitions start...

I feel like there's nothing that could be worse than trying to interpret and perform than Caravan, and he managed that pretty well. Playing the music is hard enough (it still stands out to me from everything I ever played across 3 instruments, including my exam pieces,  because it was just impossible to get right). I'm still baffled by how anyone was able to skate to it. I think he'll polish up his 2 new programs just nicely by the time they're in competition. Both sound like they have a bit more room for bringing out the performer in him too. I hope he manages to get them together because they'll be great to watch if they're done well.

also Nathan pretty please how about costumes?you're using Sir Elton John music,AKA the king of stage costumes...take a hint from him please!

This said I don't know why but I find Nathan particulary heavy in his skating but it's early and I wish him all the improvement he can get!

Waka’s new SP!

She was skating sick with a cold, said it was hard to breathe with her nose running non-stop and she hadn’t been able to practice this past week. Hope she gets well soon!

Finally. I like the music, but the choreo is empty or doesn't fit the music imo. So far i think the best choreographed (+best music cuts) SP by Shae is Kaori's. Rika's choreo isn't bad but the music is a big no. Wakaba's choreo lacks details.

I like the costume though.

I love the idea of Waka's SP! Hopefully she's getting the worst over with already, it'll be pretty spectacular when she pulls it off, especially the step sequence, she just bursts into it with the three difficult turns and it's amazing. The 2A is underwhelming with that setup so fingers crossed she gets that 3A when it's time for bigger competitions. Waka's programmes usually have too many crossovers if you look for them but she's just so fast and dynamic that I find it easy to ignore that.

Rika is really, really ambitious, isn't she? Reminds me of Yuzu that way. Knows just how much she has to bring her jump and transitions game, and the dramatic interpretation part, considering the programmes she'll be going up against. I hope she pulls it off. Feels like one fall could derail the programme.

I'm a bit uncertain about Kaori, her skating skills have improved and they were very nice already but some of the things that were charming and endearing as a first season senior begin to feel like maybe things she should work on now that she's in her third season as senior. But with this 3A and quad arms race, I guess it's not going to be a priorty, who can blame her?

Nathan... Well, he is putting steps before his jumps. His SP 3A, his FS 4Lz - he's not going straight into them. Long setups still but getting better. That's good. That's about all that's different from last season's programmes. Or the season before that. Other than a couple of specific different hand wavy thingies, it feels like he could skate any of his SPs and FSs over this and the last two years to any piece of music he used now and in the last two years and it would take people who've watched him a thousand times to even tell that it's not the 'right' programme. And the knees are beginning to really bother me, surely it's time we should see some improvement on that. And his edges are still shallow when he has any speed.

Not that it'll matter, +8GOE and 11.5PCS across the board.

ETA: More people should've gone to Stephane. Yuna's programme is gorgeous.

(Under cut, I think it was posted earlier but I can't find it now)

Spoiler

It's obviously early to say too much about Nathan's FS, the program is only half ready and it's barely 3 minutes long now, but first I was confused if it's really a new FS or just an EX, - though it wouldn't make sense to introduce a new EX in the beginning of August, just three weeks before his school starts. Then it was confirmed it's his new FS. I find the music choice strange, not sure if it's skateable or suitable for a competitive program. There are just too much arm flailing (again), not much content at this point and I don't see him hitting many musical notes. Well we'll see how this program and his skating will progress during the season.

On the other hand, I saw some info somewhere that Kosto isn't repeating her SP after all but using other song from Twilight? Does someone know if it is confirmed?

Last thing I read was that she's keeping her short program from last season. I haven't read anything else since then so it's not confirmed?

In other news, we haven't heard many announcements from pairs so far, but here's a good one: Boikova/Kozlovskii's new FS will be to James Bond! I'm looking forward to it.

I cringed at first when I first saw Nathan's FS, especially the music — no, not the song choice, but how it was put together, that's the cringeworthiest part...

...but then again, who am I to talk about it? Elton John has made *such* type of songs, and he might (or let other people he trusts) do that again, so I won't s__t on the song choice too much, especially not on the latter part of the song omg why did they do Bennie and the Jets dirty, but like I say, whatever... . It's what Nate's gonna do with the song (in his choreo etc.), and I am on the more optimistic standpoint that — barring significant exceptions — any skater can skate to any song/music piece they pick, given that they know what to do with the song (and how well they do it). The first footage we saw definitely doesn't show him (and his program) in a positive light — who knows what will happen next? Although if you're one of the more cynical audience members you'd probably answer "nothing!" immediately

...that said, I know the (possibly) least surprising thing that would happen with Nate regarding this FS — he wouldn't pick a flashy costume worthy of an homage to Elton John :v (in fact I'd be more surprised if he picks a flashy costume than if he were able to skate his FS with proper amount of transition, skating skills, etc )

I wonder how much of the flailing was the jacket. Just watching it flap around was annoying me lol
