Take a look at his suit in the Kose interview. The shoulders look fine but his sleeves while sitting are extremely baggy. That’s a non-fitted suit.

I think the reason we don’t see him in a well fitted suit is he doesn’t really have a need for it. Most of these suits are probably prepared by his sponsors in a short time frame so there isn’t a chance to tailor them. Aside from these public appearances the only time he may wear a suit is during a competition banquet and he may find its not worth bringing out his best suit for those.

You also have to consider that he has at least 3 uniform suits already - from the 2 Olympics and his high school - and maybe he just wants to get some wear out of them. He doesn't seem like the type to waste a perfectly good suit jacket just because it doesn't quite fit.

Also, not every man has enough sartorial education to understand the difference between "well-tailored" and "it fits ok I guess". We are talking about a guy who spends most of his waking life in Under Armour, after all.

...ummm what's a White Day??

Edit: just found the answer to that!

Oh that was so cute! His voice in that recording sounded really warm and relaxed and like there was a little bit of a laugh behind it. Really nice.

Yep, ultimately I think he doesn't feel there's a need to get a custom suit as he probably feels what he already has is just fine. He has a unique figure which means the off-the-rack sizing probably doesn't quite fit all parts of his body. Although I'm not sure how often he re-wears the same suits. The Olympic ones I imagine he only wears during occasions related to the Olympics (press conference, parade, prime minister visit with other Olympic athletes). I think the suit he wore for the Emperor's Garden Party seemed to fit alright although I can't find a full body photo, I'm thinking that one may be a suit he personally bought and keeps in his closet for special occassions.

I am reading a book called Kiira (2018) which is about a Finnish single's skater called Kiira Korpi. In chapter 14 she talks about costumes. She says there was a big difference between her costumes and regular clothes. Basicly off-ice her style was very casual and practical and she preffered track suits. The sport side of figure skating was the most  important thing and not the costumes. She was particular in that a costume felt comfortable and didn't chafe. This is propably the case with most elite level skaters. I'd imagine for Hanyu costumes are his work clothes and other than that he doesn't really care.

About sponsors (chapter 6) Kiira writes that each company requires for an athlete to be at disposal for 2-4 days per year depending on the size of a contract. With five companies that can mean up to 20 days which is a lot of time away from practice. I can see why Hanyu is very careful when choosing his endorsements.

Another fun tidbit in the book: apparently David Wilson has a tendency to throw temper tantrums. According to Kiira, David is (was in early 2010's) a very emotional visionary whose emotions can swing up and down. He can be late for an hour or two and she never knew what time and in what mood he was going to show up. I can totally see how more reserved people like Kiira or Hanyu can find this unsetteling. Kiira preferred to work with Shae-Lynn Bourne for coreography. Her approach is totally different. Unlike David she is an excellent skater (obviously). They used to skate and experiment on the ice for hours and Shae-Lynn always wanted to know what felt natural to her. Kiira was used to it that you make a movemet as natural as possible by practicing it but Shae-Lynn's approach was the other way round. Kiira learned how to respect one's own body and it's own natural way to move.

Mama Hanyu: We are going to the tailor for measurement.
Yuzu: No. Ask Satomi Ito.
Roman: The Waist. I can help!!

Speaking of Satomi Ito, she says she has been using Sekkisei. It explains well why she has beautiful skin :)

If it were up to me though I would definitely drag him to the bestest bespoke tailor there is (in Japan at least :þ) (what an original thought ), or have those athletes who have their suits bespoke (I heard king Kohei has his suit bespoke? Hmmm) nudge him to make a suit bespoke for him :smiley-angelic001:

Zuzu posts bare minimum, 20 seconds messeges about nothing and we are still dying for it.:tumblr_m9gck4P2Jf1qzckow:

It reminds how we sat through laureus gala to only get 15 seconds clip with photos we already saw and we were still happy.

Or silently watching that Lukashenko fiasko at Europeans, where Yuzu was not supposed to be at all...? Yeah, I am such a well-behaved fan. :68468287:
