I think it says that the one Nobu's kids think is cool is Yuzu. He's such a god-like existence to them that they think "No way, no way, no way!" about taking a photo with Yuzu. Also, they think it's awesome that Nobu is skating with Yuzu, like it's awesome only because he's skating with Yuzu

Anyone feel free to correct me if I misunderstood/missed out anything :)

Oh no... I need pics of Nobu's kids with Yuzu :tumblr_inline_mzx8t1Yuvn1r8msi5:

Not only Kohei Uchimura, other top Japanese athletes were also inspired by Yuzuru in the Olympics according to these articles and tweets. I didn't have time to post at that time since there were too many news about Yuzuru himself, but here it is :)

Tomokazu Harimoto (table tennis, gold medalist in JWC of 2016, https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%BC%B5%E6%9C%AC%E6%99%BA%E5%92%8C)
https://www.jiji.com/jc/article?k=2018030300544&g=spo

(After he lost in the game) "If I had the mental strength Hanyu has, I would be able to get closer to the gold medal. I want to carry this regret to the next."

Kenzo Shirai (gymnastics, gold medalist in the Olympics and WC, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenz%C5%8D_Shirai)
https://www.sponichi.co.jp/sports/news/2018/02/26/kiji/20180226s00067000092000c.html

"In the warm up, there was the jump he was not able to land, but he succeeded it at one shot in the actual performance."
"Hanyu said he would challenge 4A, and as a leading "twister" in the gymnastics, I also have to aim for the higher level."

Daiya Seto (swimming, gold medalist in two WC, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daiya_Seto)
https://www.sponichi.co.jp/sports/news/2018/02/26/kiji/20180225s00092000488000c.html

"I think his road to the Olympics was not easy being injured, but it was beyond amazing he achieved the greatest result at the biggest stage."
"I have the connection with Hanyu in terms of belonging to the same company (Seto is in ANA, also a student of Waseda Uni), I only have greeted him. I'm interested in the mentality of "The absolute king", so I would love to talk with him. Of course, I am feeling like "I have to do it next." and being passed a baton from him."

Naohisa Takato (Judo, gold medalist in two WC, bronze madalist in the Olympics, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naohisa_Takato)
http://www.hochi.co.jp/sports/winter/20180220-OHT1T50213.html

"Hanyu's consentration is really great. I was moved from my heart that he executed perfectly at the big stage without loosing focus after he had injured his right ankle. He must be realizing his current strength and weakness very well. While he wanted to have the best performance at the current state since it was the Olympics, he did stick to giving all his best on that day. It was the toughness that normal people don't have. Hanyu had it and I felt he was a monster."
"He has the absolute power that nobody can say anything about. I watched him feeling like the excellence of Yuzuru Hanyu as a human being was spreaded not only over Japan but also the whole world. Being impressed by his interview, I was motivated like I had to work harder and keep up, because I want my gold medal in the Olympics after all."

Nozomi Okuhara (badminton, gold medalist in WC of 2017, bronze medalist in the Olympics, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nozomi_Okuhara)
https://twitter.com/nozomi_o11/status/965521548252659712

"The more I see the news of Hanyu, the more I want to see him and ask a lot of questions. I want to hear many stories from him."

Kosei Inoue (Judo, gold medalist in the Olympics, the current supervisor of team Japan, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C5%8Dsei_Inoue)
https://www.daily.co.jp/general/2018/02/19/0010999477.shtml

"True king. He had the curious aura in his whole body and the power to draw all in." "I shouted when I was watching him. I don't know about the techniques of the sport, but he had his own expression, brilliance and flexibility. I thought he was fabulous."
"He has incredible mentality. It is better if we don't get hurt physically, but the important thing is how to control ourselves after getting injured."
"We have tremendous pressure for 2020, but we have to fight believing in ourselves after all. As an athlete, he gave us the courage and inspiration."

Nao Kodaira (speed skating, gold medalist in the Olympics, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nao_Kodaira)
https://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/hl?a=20180219-00000040-dal-spo

"First of all, his attitude for the performance was different (from mine) when he stood on the ice rink. He was standing like he was able to have clean elements without thinking anything, and I felt I wanted to compete in that kind of atomosphere as well."
"I've heard that Hanyu read many research papers while he was injured, so if I have any chance to talk with him, I want to ask him what kind of documents he had read."

Kosuke Hagino (swimming, gold medalist in the Olympics, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kosuke_Hagino)
https://www.asahi.com/articles/ASL2K6QVJL2KUTQP03H.html

"I imagine he had really hard time after getting injured, and his sense (for skating) may not been coming back 100% yet, but he did give it all like that. I was very moved."
(Did Yuzuru inspire him toward the consective win in Tokyo Olympics?) "Yes. I can not let the Pooh rain over the swimming pool, so I want to make another kind of rain (in Tokyo Olympics)."

Yuto Nagatomo (football, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuto_Nagatomo)
https://twitter.com/YutoNagatomo5/status/964812084872712193

"Yuzuru Hanyu is unbelievable. How did he show the best performance after returning from long-term withdrawal due to the injury? Has not he recovered fully yet, has he? Besides, the Olympics is the big stage. You can not do this only by the talent. Well done."

Shohei Ono (Judo, gold medalist in the Olympics, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shohei_Ono)
https://www.nikkansports.com/sports/news/201803160000743.html

"Hanyu's word "I know how to win the Olympics.". He understands the way of aproaching to the big game, and the way of peaking and conditioning. What I am lack within me is "prominent". I haven't trained enough to be prominent. I only have to spend enormous amount of time to build up."

Oh lookie, eyes are sweating again.

:thanks:

Need vid to live.

I think this is from the backstage fluff of NBC. This is from one of the vid contained in this folder from the video compilation post by kaeryth, the 14:34 minutes in length:

The whole post.

Thank you truly. I love reading what fellow athletes think of Hanyu's achiement from a more professional point of view.
If his Olys achiement helps to push Japanese athletes to better performances in Tokyo the better.

In my defense, i did put 'iirc' which mean 'if i remembered correctly'

obviously, I didn't remember correctly. that's all. Nothing to fuss over.

Oh, of course. I think it's very likely that Shoma will move to No.1 - he's very close in points, he competes a lot and he's been very consistent in the scores he's received all season. If he keeps a cool head at Worlds and pulls out two good performances he's very likely to win, and there's a reason Yuzuru admires his nerves of steel :) But if Shoma does win gold at Worlds, that won't make him the new skater everyone else strives to beat. He is still chasing Yuzuru. As is everyone else. world ranking doesn't tell the full story - especially this season.

You get 1800 points for winning worlds or olympics right? Then hanyus ranking will go down

As a marketing person, I wouldnt want to be in his marketing team and having to come up with explainations of the hashtag, lol.

I certainly wouldnt recommend it to my clients and I'm not even from an English speaking country. My country's top athletes had have their events before. If the slogan sounds off/weird/grammar error(usually lost in translation issue), Everyone would comment, vocally. We would be saying "Who's the PR company that came up with this slogan?! So ..........Sack them"

Slogans, themes, etc are supposed to be easy to understand by the target market but hey, I reckon Yuzuru figured his fans will buy anything he sells.

Ci was necessary if he wanted to use a wink in the hashtag since ; or any other symbol would break the hashtag lol. The 'ONTU' part is still confusing but when you have fan power and reach over your target audience like Yuzu, the usual marketing rules don't really apply I suppose

Referring to Yolo3a's use of the word 'stupid' I assume that the person is not familiar with English usage sufficiently to know the connotations the word has in normal English speech.  The evidence is that the writer knows that an adjective is required to match the 'cute' that is used and my feeling is that the writer was trying to find something that either is opposite 'cute' or is a synonym for 'cute'.  So I've been sitting here trying to figure out what was intended and right now I can't come up with the more appropriate word.  I am sure no offense was intended in the use of 'stupid' since the word 'cute' was used, a word with extremely positive connotations.  It was simply a case where the writer was out of his/her depth in trying to say something in a language where, quite simply, the desired word was simply not known.

When I was teaching English years ago I'd often find similar situations when reading and grading student papers.  The situation is poor word choice and I've found that even highly educated individuals in fields other than English have that problem, even though English is their native language.  Some of my students, however, were not native English speakers and I would take that into account when grading the papers.  I did, however, meet with them outside class to go over the paper and try to steer them to the words they really needed.

I think it is too easy for native English speakers to overlook the fact there are far more individuals worldwide whose English is not their native tongue than those who learned English as the language they grew up with.  What native English users have to realize is those living in the US, Canada, Britain, Australia and New Zealand, the major countries with English as the official language,  they do not have a monopoly on the language.  English is now, quite simply, the international language, the one that is used in business, in science, in education, in so many situations where a common language is today necessary.  That it became so is a product of two elements.  The first is the two centuries in which English-speaking nations were the dominant nations worldwide - England and after it the United States in the Nineteenth and Twentieth centuries respectively.  The second is that English, despite it's eccentricities, is one of the easiest languages to learn if you are just aiming for simple functionality.  With one exception - its spelling.  I think only French, of the languages I know, is worse than English there.

In any case I think we should all take into account when reading the words of others on this forum that there are cases where the right words simply are not there and so some word, any word, is chosen to finish what they are trying to say.  Look sharply at the context of the entire message before judging harshly what might simply be a case where the writer simply is at a loss for words.  I doubt anybody who has gone to the effort to register and follow this forum has anything bad to say about Yuzu so with that in mind I would simply pass by inept usage.  I look more for the spirit rather than the letter of the posts here.

This!!!!

Actually even the full title "Continues with Wings" is a bit off English wise. Yuzuru chose the theme himself its ok.

I wouldnt, for the sake of my job and company's reputation, lol. Maybe sthing like 'Soar higher, breakthru(refering to the 66 yrs thingy) .'' Or 'Soar with wings, no limits/conquer the universe/limitless possibilities' .

Then use the 2X and 66 yrs , maybe 2018 to make some cute hashtag.

If its a company, along the lines of 'Passion. Connected' for Olympics is expected. The promo vid was 'People, Possibility, Power, Peace. Passion- Connected' Thats it, 5P and 1C.
